1 Answer

We just dvrs hooked up a few weeks ago.when I am recording somthing down and my daughter goes upstairs to watch her tv and tries to change her channel to watch somthing a message comes up on the tv that says if you change the chanel it will stop the recording.I thought the reason for a dvr was so you could watch one thing and record another.

Hi, poog_23350, I caught your post! How a Duo DVR receiver works is that the TV you have it set to record on will not allow you to change the channel while the recording is in progress. The other TV, that isn't recording anything, can be used freely to flip through channels.

In this case, it's TV2, the one upstairs in your daughter's room, that's currently set to record on while the downstairs TV is free to use. This can be adjusted by pulling up the Main Menu with the Menu button on the remote, selecting option 8, then option 5, and changing the TV1/TV2 setting there on the Record Plus screen.

If you'd like a receiver capable of allowing channel changing while recording a program, our VIP 612 receiver is a Solo receiver that acts like a Duo. What this means is that it has one TV output and two tuners. Along with being able to change channels while a recording is in progress with this type of receiver, you can also record two programs on two different channels simultaneously.

Hope that helps!

Unable to record show on the DVR

Try a hard reboot. Hold the power button on the box till it turns itself off. It will turn itself back on. After restarting try to record live tv. If you can't watch recorded shows either your harddrive may be fried. After thought, a $20 tv tuner card from e-bay for your computer, you could record them to your desktop.

Adding tv to a dish network dvr

Your upstairs tv is connected via a coaxial cable and you can do a few things to get programming to the third room.

The first is to locate the wire that enters the upsairs room that currently has tv and insert a splitter by cutting the line to that room and running the out ports to the rooms and the in port to the other end of the wire that you cut. This will give you the same picture in both rooms.
If you have a system that does not use diplexers to backfeed the second TV you can backfeed the 3-4 cable going to the TV1 by cutting the line and adding a splitter with the inport running to the 3-4 port on the receiver and one of the out ports going to your tv1 and the other outport going into the UHF side of a diplexer. You will need to cut the Satellite feed into the back of the receiver on the back side of the seperator and connect the seperator to the SAT port of the diplexer. The IN/OUT port of the diplexer will connect to the end of the sat feed cable that goes to the wall plate. This will allow you to go into the attic of outside of the house and find the sat cable that feeds the TV one and break it there and put the IN/OUT port of that diplexer facing the TV1 room and the SAT port connecting to the other end of the cable you broke. The remaining UHF port will be the feed for the new room that you wish to connect. This set up will allow for viewing the same program as that at the TV1 location however you will need to change the channels at the TV1 location or buy an IR to UHF converter to allow you to be able to work the system independently from the receiver. Sky upstairs

Yes on the back of the box there is a RF2 output...

run a coaxil aerial cable from there to your required TV, you then need to tune the 2nd tv to the sky box.

You can also buy a 'Magic Eye' and a 'extra remote' this will allow you to change channels from the second destination with only 1 digi box.

Down point is that you have to watch the same channel on both tv's.

a second card and box and a dual LNB will allow you to watch seperate channels.

Wavy lines and jogging TV picture

it could be any of the things you listed, the coaxial output on the dvr, where it says channels 3-4 out, the cable , or the coaxial input port on your tv. the dvd player is probably hooked up with rca cables (red white and yellow) so the reason you dont have the issue with it is because its on a different port, one solution would be to hook your receiver up to the tv using this kind of cable, this would also get you stereo sound, you would then watch dish network programming on a video input channel,
if you want to narrow the problem down, i would suggest hooking a vcr up with the cable thats connected to 3-4 out, play a tape and see if the issue continues, if not the issue is with the dvr, if so try a different coax cable, if this resolves the issue, the issue was the cable, if not unfortunately the issue is your tv
