Question about Therma-Stor Santa Fe Dehumidifier

1 Answer

Our new Santa-Fe Classic dehumidifier is leaking water from the bottom of the unit. It's also sending a small amount of water correctly through the tube for dispersal. We've only had it for two days!

The classic model drains thru the clear hose using gravity. The drip pan in that unit is about 1/2 way up in the cabinet. Make sure the drain hose exits the unit and runs flat or downhill. If the drain hose is coiled vertically or run up hill causing water to trap within the hose it can cause water to back up in the dehumidifier drip pan and overflow causing your problem. If your drain is higher than the base of the dehumidifier, you can raise the dehumidifier or you can purchase a condensate pump kit that will allow the drain water to be pumped up to 15 feet above the dehumidifier.

The drain hose may have become disconnected from the drip pan as well. To check, turn off the humidistat to stop the dehumidifier from running. Next disconnect the cord from the power supply. Remove the six screws holding the cabinet side (with the label) from the cabinet and remove the cabinet side. The drain hose connects to a nipple on the bottom of the drip pan.

How to your prevent your santa fe dehumidifier from freezing up

If you are running the unit set to max, that is a mistake. The folks at Sylvane advised me to set it at about 45%-50%. They have a lot of info on the Santa Fe Dehumidifier at their website.

My Santa Fe RX dehumidifier is leaking lots of water. I manually filled the pan and pump came on, but as soon as I moved it around a bit, lots of water came out.

Your pump hose may be damaged or the adapter that connects the small hose to the pump may be loose. The pump itself may be damaged as well. Unfortunately this means that the unit must be partially disassembled in order to access the pump and associated tubing. The pump is located on the bottom of the dehumidifier next to the fan.

You can call Therma-stor service at 1-800-533-7533 for specific advice on your dehumidifier.

My Santa Fe RX runs for about 1/2 hr. The accumulator gets cold and than warm. Compressor & fan run. Humidity is set to max. No water is ever collected (I monitor the pump reservoir).I have removed the...

Are you keeping all of the metal covers in place while the machine is running? If you remove some of the metal covers, the fan may not move the air through the dehumidifier as intended.

If the compressor runs (with all of the metal covers in place) and the accumulator does not become cold, there are a few things that may be affecting your dehumidifier.

1. low refrigerant charge - you may have a refrigerant leak.
2. blocked capillary tube or broken expansion valve.
3. blocked air filter prevents enough air from moving through the dehumidifier.

Large amount of ice has accumulated behind the back panel in the upper part of the unit on my Sante Fe RX. About 2 to 3 inches thick.

Your post says you have an RX but the picture shows a SantaFe Classic.
In either case the massive frost build up is caused by a defective defrost thermostat. PN 4021470 Parts Dept 800-533-7533 x 8451
The defrost thermostat has an internal set of electrical contacts that are designed to open up and turn the compressor off when frost or ice has accumulated on the tubing and the evaporator coil. If the contacts fail to open, the compressor keeps running and the frost and ice just keep accumulating until such time as the homeowner unplugs the unit or a sevice tech replaces the defrost t-stat.

Water leaks out front , is it freezing up?

The incoming air temperature has alot to do with how well a unit works. As the basement area warms up the dehu always works better. The water leak may be caused by a plugged drain line or a crack in the plastic drain pan in the 150 Max. Please call the Thermastor Tech Line at 800-533-7533 x 8459. Let's see if we can help determine what is going on.

Empty drain pan light on unit level and plumbed to sump unit stll runs normal

Hi Kevin,
If your dehumidifier is a Compact that is over 6-12 months old the problem may be a defective drain pan safety light switch. On the early units this waterproof switch wasn't as waterproff as the vendor described. A new "MORE" waterproof switch is now being used in that unit. The new switch is a direct replacement for the old switch. Please call the Thermastor Warranty Dept and they will send you a new switch at N/C. Their # is 800-533-7533 ext 8451 or contact Dwaine @ ext 8450.
