Question about Televison & Video

I can#t access the guideplus

I have a satellite receiver connected to a CRT tv via a scart loop through a Pioneer DVR-545HX-S DVD/HDD-Recorder. Recently, this 160GB recorder (purchased in Jan '07) won't allow me to make programmed timer recordings - when I try to access the guideplus manual timer recording screen, all controls become locked and I have to restart (by pressing standby button for 5 seconds). I tried disconnecting the power for 24 hrs but this didn't correct the fault. Would optimizing the HDD fix the problem? (I haven't received any onscreen messages [as stated in recorder manual] suggesting this option.) All other functions are operating normally - I can make unprogrammed recordings. I also note that almost from the beginning. the time, date and titles of my programmed recordings tended to move about or become corrupted. But I could always access and edit the recording information until now.

A FixYa expert suggested optimizing the HDD.
I tried this but it didn't work.
I think I maybe dealing with a software fault rather than a hardware mechanical malfunction.

  • dermot1971 Sep 26, 2008

If it is a software(firmware) programming fault, then how or where do I fix it?

  • dermot1971 Sep 26, 2008

The firmware update software on the Pioneer website does not address my problem

  • dermot1971 Oct 03, 2008

Resetting the recorded solved the problem.

  • dermot1971 Oct 03, 2008

While the advice received from the FixYa experts didn't address my problem directly, it did supply me with more information about problems experienced with my recorder model.
Eventually, the problem was solved by resetting my recorder.

Go to the hard disk setup menu.

Chose initiolized HDD, same as picture below.

I can#t access the guideplus - 09fa0b6.jpg

Sometimes this can fix the problem.

Regarding the firmware, I do not think there is any firmware update available for download for this unit.

I did not find any download for your product.
Often, the image disk is distributed only to qualified repairers.

Perform an EPG setup.
You can select this option going to:
1) HOME MENU
2) GUIDE+
3) Go to SETUP
4) BASIC SETUP
5) Follow the installation menu on the screen.
Enter the postal code and country and switch the unit in standby. After two minutes the host scan will start and EPG is displayed at your display. When the EPG indication has disappeared from your display, switch on the unit and verify if you have the channel list in your EPG menu (HOME MENU -- GUIDE+). If so, return the unit in standby and wait until the next day for receiving all EPG data. If this is not working as indicated, return your unit to your dealer or contact the customer service department to get it to an Authorized Service Centre

How can I do a reset of Guideplus+?

Enter the basic setup menu of the Guideplus+ and change your country. Return to your normal TV screen to enable your system to do a refresh of the Guideplus+ data by erasing all previous information.
Then, enter the Guideplus+ menu again to check if the Guideplus+ data have been erased and go to the Guideplus+ setup menu where you reinsert the correct settings.
Be aware that it might take a day before all data are completely restored.

You can also reset the recorder to its factory settings.
Make sure that the recorder is on, use the front panel buttons and empty the disc tray. Press and hold STOP and press simultaneously on the STANDBY/ON button. Now the recorder turns off with all settings reset.

Hi,
Please go to Pioneer Support and see 3 firmware updates for you model DVR-545HX
Above said web page also describes procedure how to update firmware.
Hope this info will help you to resolve problem.
" Firmware History File Model: DVR-545HX Ver 2.19 The update improves recording from a connected external receiver and prevents, in some exceptional cases, the unit from displaying the message "content is copy protected" when recording unprotected content. Ver 2.20 The update improves: - copying a title from HDD to DVD+R or DVD+RW in certain copy modes (real time copying in MN29 and MN30). - recording audio of a scrambled program from an external decoder when scanning HDD titles or pausing HDD titles. Ver 2.21 The update improves that some DVD's are not completely loaded (Disc eject and Playback is not possible)"

Hi,

If all else appear normal, then it would seem to be a firmware/software glitch and flashing/updating the firmware may be required. Procedures for performing this may be found here. The actual update file may be found here.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Perhaps I was unclear in my initial post.

Your unit is a Pioneer DVR-545HX-S. Your last post was "...software(firmware) ... how or where..."

how or where - pls click on this link, http://www.pioneer.eu/eur/content/suppor..., it is the step by step procedures for DVR-545HX-S Software Update.

    Cheers.

Firmware update for DVD players ? Ask their repair center cause there's no way you can connect it to a computer like an iPod to update it's firmware.

You don't want to have it sent to a repair center ? Get a new one.

It is quiet and also has a timeshift function. It tuned in the TV stations available and labelled them correctly. It allows timer recordings and the manual was really easy to understand in regards to set up and how to record to HDD, edit it, and burn to DVD.

It also has a DV input and USB input located on the front of the unit to allow transfer from these sources as well as standard video connector too.It also allows you to access the HDD easily so if it needed to be replaced (or upgraded in size) you could do so easily.

Can't tune in tv with dvd freeview.it states ext link problem

If you've connected the DVD to the TV via HDMI or SCART you shouldn't need to 'tune it in', just select the HDMI or SCART input. If your TV is also a Freeview device and you want to tune it to Freeview, where you have the aerial connected to the DVD recorder, you need to also connect the DVD recorder to the TV via an RF cable or aerial flylead so that the aerial signal passes through the DVD recorder. It's all in the instructions

Can irecord on my dvr 220 pioneer from my new freeview tv

Yes you can do this. You just need to make sure that the TV outputs its picture on the scart lead that you have connected to the Pioneer unit, and you need to set the Pioneer unit to record from that scart input. Once this is done, it will be able to record whatever you have on the screen. Be aware though, if you turn off the TV it stops outputting its picture to the recorder, and if you change channel, it changes what what the recorder see's too. I hope this helps you. :)

I have just bought a samsung lcd tv with 1 scart socket. But I have a satellite box and an hdd recorder but I dont know how to connect it all up. Could anyone help. Thank you

Hello,

The Sky box should connect to the TV using it's TV Scart output.

The HDD recorder then connects to the SKY via the other Scart.

When you turn the HDD recorder on, the SKY box will automatically switch.

You need to put your normal antenna into the HDD recorder and tune it in.

When the Sky is off, you can use the HDD recorder for playback, you can also switch between the 2 when it is on with the Sky remote.

Connect satellite receiver to dvd recordrer

there is really no way around it. Directv and Tivo are releasing a new receiver in a few months. Or you could purchase a HD dvr. Directv's receivers dont send any guide data thru a RF output, only picture and sound. The recorder you have is great for cable.

Connecting PVR and satellite receiver

make sure you have a connection from one of your scart sockets (assuming you are using scart) on your sat to your pvr and then a connection (scart/hdmi?) to your tv from the pvr.

if you have a second scart or better still hdmi on your sat then plug that into tv

set top box scart output to tv

you do not say which tv model number you have so I dont know what input sockets you have but I will assume a couple of scart inputs and maybe a hdmi in (if hd version of tv) these days that would be considered a minimum amout of inputs so the setup suggestion above should be fine with that

Souud delay on tv /amp

Instead of connecting each device (sky&dvd rec.) to the TV separately, I would simply hook up the sky to dvd recorder (connect the sky output and dvd recorder input), and then connect the dvd recorder output (must be called "play out") to one of the available recorder inputs (which could be a dvr, an empty tape input, etc)of your amp. However, you'll still have to establish a feedback between your dvd recorder and your amp. Therefore, if the dvd rec. supports it, you'll have to hook up the rec.out, which is on your amp.,to rec.in on your dvd recorder. After all these audio connections, you will only need to make a video connection among the sky, dvd rec., and tv. Get a video cable to hook up the sky video output to your dvd recorder's video input, then do the same thing between the dvd recorder's tv output and tv.

Digital audio problems

Try using a different cable for starters, regular rca, another optical or coaxial. If the optical works, then its a cable problem. If the coaxial works(and another optical doesnt), then its a cable/jack problem. If the RCA works(and the rest don't), then its a problem with the digital output. Try blowing into the holes, and if nothing works and you can't find any other advice, contact Pioneer. Good luck
