My daughter's screen is also broken, any luck finding a replacement screen......

  • Chrisfixya baker Jan 02, 2012

similar problem here - my 4yo dropped the leappad no more than 18 inches, screen cracked and stylus/touchscreen is inoperative. can't locate spares online (as you can for many cellphones), waiting on response from Leap customer service....

My daughters did too. I called leappad and they are replacing my daughters. I took a picture of it. they asked me to write in permenant marker over it and then snap shot it and email it back...then I asked a couple of days later and they gave me a tracking number for the new one. I am assuming the broke one will not be returned but I will find out when it comes in next wednesday. I was a nervous wreak about the broken screen and freaked out not getting the warrenty. I am soooo glad leappad is doing this for me.

Did LeapFrog charge you guys for the replacements? My son has had his LeapPad for about a year now.

  • Enjoli Nov 18, 2012

Call leap frog they will replace the leap pad for free. It will arrive within 7 days. My son broke his brother leap pad and was so worried, but they were able to replace it with no problems.

  • Chenelblack Nov 26, 2012

I called leap pad customer service and they emailed me a RMA# number with instructions to reply with a picture of the broken leappad with the RMA# written on it and they will mail me out a new one. Easy Peasy!

  • Chenelblack Nov 26, 2012

Call Leap pad they will replace it without problems. No receipt required. They will email you a RMA# and you will reply with a picture of the leap pad with the RMA# on it and they will ship your new one. Easy Peasy!

A big thank you to everyone who has posted on this thread!!! We gave our son a Leapad2 for Christmas (3 days ago!!!) and he scracked the screen already. My heart sank since we purchased games and accessories, the whole nine yards. After googling to find a replacement screen, I found this thread and called Leapfrog. They are sending me a replacement unit as well. As others mentioned, they will send you an email with instructions on how to initiate the replacement process. This is a one time deal but that is fine with me. I can't believe they are so awesome about this and didn't even ask any questions. Awesome customer service!

  • Cole Jan 03, 2013

  • Salome Jan 09, 2013

well i rang up the toy supplier which listed the Leap pad2 and i have brought off them, and i told them about my problem with the screen been cracked and they told me to find a computer place that repairs screens and get it fixed, totally didnt help me as they didnt even give me any company names or contact numbers to help me get the leap pad fixed. Really annoying. So i have decided to email the International2@leapfrog.com about any answers to getting my 6 year old sons xmas present fixed.

I've rang leapfrog as my son's is cracked too and they will repair free of charge but the unit is supposed to be robust so I'm taking it back to argos and seeing if they do anything about it

  • jennicastro1
    jennicastro1 Jan 31, 2013

Yes. Call Leapfrog. The first repair is free. They ask you to write a code on the screen and send them a picture. You are mailed a new one. Did mine all via email. Excellent service!

  • Renee Feb 27, 2013

My daughter went to play with her leappad 2 days ago and found that the screen was cracked. I contacted leap frog and thye said they do not repair or offer replacements. The best they could do was a 15% discount on a replacement. I'm happy to hear others were more successful. My daughter is devastated!

  • aeristilhear Apr 03, 2013

Yes, I just called that number that everyone's been calling and talked to them about it... They DO complete a 1 time replacement for cracked screens for the simple fact, they don't OFFER any screens for sale for replacement so there's no other way to fix it. They send you an e-mail and you just have to compile with the e-mail requirements and they send you a new one!! I'm so happy and my son is too :)

  • summo01

Call Back and insist!!! I called this morning and the first person I spoke with said no there was nothing they could do... I was very dissapointed as I purchased many apps since XMAS... So after reading some of the responses on this site I called back and said "hey lot of people on line are getting a one time replacement!!" they agreed right away. They said I can upload all my apps onto the new one so that isn't lost THANK GOD!!!! So I would definantly call back! 8663345327... I alos told them, that if I had to start all over that I would never replace it as there was just too much money lost... they sent me email right away with instructions of what to do and said I would have a new one in the mail in5-10 days!!!

OH my I laready got my new leap pad!!!! I called them on Monday... and it just arrived by puralator!!! 3 days!!! I'm not sure yet how to transfer the apps... but they told me I have to take them off the old one and put them on the new one through my account.... As soon as I figure it out, I'll post the solution!!! Thanks leapad...Man my daughter is happy right now!!!! 3 days!!!!

  • Paige Tate Apr 25, 2013

I just called and the representative at Leapfrog was super amazing. I was ready to fuss and argue with her but it turns out it was completely unnecessary. She asked me some basic questions....name, number, and my e-mail address and then told me my unit had a one time replacement. I gave her my shipping address and voila problem solved!!!! I can still use my apps that I've purchased so everything was good. One less thing to worry about.

  • Rebecca Koenning Apr 30, 2013

Did you need to mail the old one in? My screen is cracked, but still usable and thought the younger sibling could play on it until it dies.

  • Tanja Dwire Jun 04, 2013

I just called leap frog with a broken screen issue and I will also be getting a replacement leap pad. AWESOME!! I have to write something on the screen and send a picture then they will send the replacement. Thanks Leap Frog!

  • JKLaw Jun 05, 2013

Followed jmpatt0681's instructions and they say they are sending me another. I am truly amazed if it happens. Really wish that Nintendo would have done this when the screen went black on my older daughter. They would have charged me the same to fix it as just going and buying a new one. I will not buy another in case that happens again. So their loss on all the games we could have bought for her and any that I would have gotten her two younger siblings! So LeapFrog is smart to do this even if it is a one time replacement.

  • Colby Vendt Jun 28, 2013

My Sons leap pad 2 went black. The system turns on and you can see the screen if you use a flash light to look at it. Im wondering if anyone else has had this problem?

Thank you all for the comments. I bought my son the leappad 2 december 2012 and he cracked the screen by putting the carger in the case with the leappad. I called leap frog customer service and they are sending me a new one yay my baby boy is going to be really happy.

  • Heather Smith Sep 18, 2013

After emailing photos of the damage and being told to deface my broken leappad, I'm now being told I have to send it in to get the replacement. Has anyone else encountered this?

  • ronnie rey Sep 19, 2013

Here is my experience with Leap Frog. Not satisfied at all. I will never buy another Leap Frog product again!! You can also see my response to them:

  • ronnie rey Sep 19, 2013

i was to go out an buy this product in the store...which i will not 15% would barely take care of the tax on the new device. We not only own the Leap Pad but we also have the Leapster Explorer. When there is not a service center to repair these expensive devices the least you could do if offer a better warranty. I will not purchase any more games, accessiores, or devices if this is the end result and the quality of service that this company stands for. If i could take it somewhere to get it repaired i would...instead you suggest that i buy a new unit...at your "wonderful" discounted price of %15 off. This is ridiculous and unacceptable. Like i stated in the previous email i know from the online forum (Fixya.com) that a one time replacement has been given to numerous people. I bought this for my son on his third birthday in June 2012. He also received the Leapster at the same time. SO this literally at in the box at the top of his closet for six months. When we did take it out of the box he played with it a handful of times. He was still too little to really know what to do. Only the last couple of months has it really gotten used regularly. Can you tell me when we registered the product online. We used this email do to that so you should be able to tell me when that took place. That would be the same time we finally took it out of the closet and the box. With this kind of warranty I now plan to go on the Leap Frog website and Amazon and any other website where these products are sold and warn potential buyers of the lack of repair options and no replacement option for the products they purchase from your company. I will NEVER buy another device, game ANYTHING from Leap Frog again. I will spend my money on a Naby or a Kindle Fire for my son. Amazon has excellent customer service and warranties behind their products. Thanks for the %15 percent but i will not be using it to buy any of your products. I don't see "screen replacements", only screen protectors similar to what I put on my cellphone to protect it against scratches. Am I missing something?

I called back a few months ago because my daughters screen cracked. We only had her other leap pad for a couple months and they are suposed to be kid tough. Well she dropped it and the screen when crackle. I did call leap pad. And after talking to a supervisor they did replace the leap pad for free. Leap frog is a great company. And i thank them. Leap pads are expensive and had to save up a long time to buy the one we did have. So I will continue to purchase their products. We have used leap pad for years and our first problem ever was this cracked screen. But they made my little one happy and me to! I use it as a teaching tool for her not just a toy.

My granddaughter broke the screen on her new leappad 2 just 2 days after Christmas. I immediately went online to see if I could get it repaired or find a replacement screen and found this link. What a blessing!! I called the customer support number (1-866-334-5327) and was told that they do not repair them but would give me a one time replacement if I sent a picture to the link they e-mailed me. I did so and 5 to 7 days later, I have a much happier granddaughter (and grandma!). Plugged it into the computer, everything back on it and she is playing on it now!!! Thanks for this info! Very easy process!

  • Elizabeth Browning
    Elizabeth Browning Dec 03, 2014

I was also told by LeapFrog customer service that the company had exempted cracked screens from the warranty. Since this is a product marketed for young children, the large number of cracked screens, lack of repair options, and undisclosed warranty exemptions means that I won't be purchasing (or recommending) any more LeapFrog products.

As we all know leap frog will not refurbish the leap pad but they will send you ONE new unit. But my replacement unit just shut off completely and no longer powers up. Leap frog will not send another or fix the existing. So as a cell phone repair man, I opened the two of them up and combined them to make one working leap pad. You can also find broken leap pads at thrift stores and on ebay very cheap that will have your parts. I made a guide for everyone so you can do it yourself and save a bundle. Not to mention all the money you dumped into this thing after you bought it. games expansions etc..... Here is my guide link.

I contacted Leap Pad through their website and was replied to fairly quickly. I told them my situation - that my son had broken the screen of his leap pad. It had fallen off of his bed onto a night stand and cracked in 2 places. Leap pad informed me that they didn't have a repair service for cracked screen but, instead, offered a one time replacement of the device. Following this response, they asked me for some information [ie. My name, address, date of purchase, purchase location as well as the code located in the back battery compartment, etc.]. When I provided the info, they sent me a reference number that I had to write on the screen of the broken device with permanent marker and send them a photograph to confirm. Afterwards, they told me that they had verified the photograph and information and that my new replacement device should be delivered in 7-10 days [mine arrived in 4 business days]. There was no need to return the broken device whatsoever. I was so satisfied with their level of service. They even helped me transfer my purchased apps from the broken device to the new one.

I called and LeapFrog is no longer providing a free replacement, even though my grandson's LeapPad is under warranty. The only thing they offer is a 50% discount on my purchase of a new one. Very disappointed. I notice that some people posting to this discussion have been advised to take it back to the place where they purchased it and ask for a replacement. Doesn't sound right to me, but since I purchased mine online from Amazon, I'm going to see what Amazon says about it.

Just curious, did they send you a new one? Were you able to keep the old one or did you have to send it back? My son just dropped his and it cracked the screen. We are both heartbroken. Just wondering what they did. Thanks

  • aeristilhear Apr 03, 2013

You keep the old one, they just send you a new one after you write on it with marker the number they provide you and take a picture and send it to their e-mail :)

How did you transfer the old app to the new one?

  • aeristilhear Jul 15, 2013

Connect the old one to the computer and turn it on and go to the Leapfrog Connect, click on 'apps on this leappad' and it'll pull them all off, you then have to 'un' click them to uninstall them all, then plug in the new one and install them on that one instead :)

  • aeristilhear Jul 15, 2013

even if it's broken and the screen doesn't turn on, the system will still turn on and the computer will still recongize it.

You have to connect the old one to the computer and turn it on, even if it's broken, the computer will still recongize it.

  • aeristilhear Oct 20, 2013

It's up to two devices... but you have to remove it from the old one. As long as the old one powers up, even if the thing is in 'pieces' which one of mine was, as long as it powers on and you can plug it in to the computer, you can log into leapfrog and remove all the apps... then plug in the new one and load them all onto the new one ^_^ I've done this several times for my children's devices, works like a charm!

Just want to also say that I originally called Leapfrog and told them my daughter dropped hers and the screen cracked. They said they would not replace it due to the fact that it was from an accident. I then emailed them without telling them it was dropped. Here is a copy of the email. If you tell them it was due to accident they won't help you. I emailed them the information then they sent me a code to write on the screen and take a picture of. They are now sending me a new one.
We're sorry to inform you that we do not repair the screen or offer a replacement screen for the Leappad2.

If the device cracked due to an accident, this voids the warranty of the product, but please provide us the following information.

Full name:
Shipping address:
Phone number:
Place and date of purchase:
Product Color:
Alphanumeric codes engraved or stamped inside the right battery compartment of the product. (e.g 1020120AG).

That's what most of my mine said too, but JUST above that thing about the warranty, you'll see that it says 'But we'll send you a replacement this one time, so please respond to this e-mail with the information asked." So definately reply with your info!

Nope, don't need the receipt. At first I was given a run around too and wrote a letter saying I was sput off by the generic response- we have a ton of Leap products in out home. Then I received the response the others did that they will replace it one time for a cracked screen. They will ask date and place of purchase. I only know it was in December 2012 fo Christmas. Good luck- anyone being told they can't replace it keep trying- they will

I tried calling and they won't replace mine as it was just a little over one year old. :( Just wanted everyone to know that. You would think their screens wouldn't be so fragile since they're for 3 to 9 year olds! I was very disappointed in how rude their customer service representative was. I hope everyone else has better luck than me. I had to buy a new one off Amazon.

YES, they don't offer the "one time replacement" anymore. Just called their customer service an hour ago and they said that there's nothing they can do about it. He advised me to buy a new one since they don't have a repair service. It really sucks!!!!

The screen on my son's LeapPad 2 somehow became cracked and isn't able to work properly anymore. I just got done calling the 1-800-701-5327 number from their website. I was told that they do not replace screens or have replacement parts, and that I need to simply return to the store of purchase, and have them exchange it. Basically, I'm supposed to tell the store that Leapfrog told them to replace it...and I was given a reference # to call back with if they do not help me at the store. I guess we will try to return! Fingers crossed...

I was also offered only the 50% discount. Anyone who didn't get their leap pad replaced needs to call back and talk to someone else, I just called this morning on my daughter's leap pad and all I had to do was respond with a picture of the cracked screen with an rma# written across the screen that they gave me and they're sending us a new one, free of charge! Try again, for real, these things are too expensive to just buy another and if they're replacing some then they know there's a problem. Ours is only 3 months old, they said as long as its less than a year old they'll cover it.

Hi, what country are you in ? I'm in Australia and emailed the customer service who advised me that screen damage is not covered and the best they can do is offer me a replacement for $100aud. I Piaf $170 for mine and within. 3 weeks the picture under the screen looks damaged, the picture only shows half and looks cracked, but the actual screen is still in tact. No accidental damage or misuse has happened but they don't seem to believe this ??

Received my new LeapPad and the whole process was extremely easy! Just as prev posts said, I called told them the screen was cracked and they asked me all the same questions, and I told them I really didn't know what had happened because I was not in the room when she and her sister were each playing with their LeapPad's I got them last Christmas. They sent me the email with-in minutes, I took the picture and returned the email and with-in a week I was able to give my granddaughter her new LeapPad!! The look on her face was priceless.......LeapFrog made her a happy little girl as well as a happy grandma!! I am still AMAZED....... I kept waiting for the "catch" which never came. :) LeapFrog again I say thank you! We have many Leapfrog products and after this I can truly say we will remain a LeapFrog family for years to come. <3

I just called the number and told them that our screen is cracked. I was told they do not have replacement parts or repairs. I was told my only option is to buy a new unit. I'm very disappointed. It's ridiculous to me that they expect me to make this large purchase and then throw it away if the screen cracks. It's a kids toy and is bound to suffer abuse no matter how careful this kids try to be. Even more ridiculous is that they expect me to buy another one! Why would I invest more money knowing that if this happens again I have no options?!
Has anyone replaced the screen themselves? Or taken it to a place that replaces screens? How do you get the right screen?

My 4 year old broke his screen while playing last night. He got it for Christmas from his Grandmother so I was really excited when I stumbled on this site and saw that it seemed pretty easy to get a fix. Well, I just called the 1-866-334-5327 number listed on this site and they told me that they could NOT help me! They said I have to go back to the place where it was purchased with the receipt and tell them "I talked with Leapfrog and they told me to bring this in for a free unit." Somehow I don't think that sounds like it's going to work, but I guess I'll give it a try. Not sure why I got a different response than everyone else. ???

I bought 4 LeapPad2's for my granddaughters this Christmas. One just called crying because she dropped and the screen broke. It turns on but doesn't go past the player select screen. Yes, I bought games, cases, chargers, screen protectors, apps, etc.
Do I return to store or is it really as easy as contacting LeapFrog?
I would be so happy so long as the unit is new and works! I'm a little worried since thelinuxmotion.org had an issue with the replacement unit.
My unit is still under warranty, so I want a brand new unit with a brand new warranty!

SOURCE: my son threw a ball and hit the screen cracks all over can this be fixed with a new screen or is it junk now really bright light shows through all the crack marks

The front glass is just a protector for the LCD screen. If your TV turns on and the picture looks ok (may be a little color variation around the crack if front glass is pushing on it, variation OK black Bad) If the picture looks within the range described then replace the glass. It is just a piece of standard glass and a pretty easy diy job. If the LCD screen is broken the repair will be more than the replacement cost. Sad fact US TV repairmen make a living wage while the workers that assembled you TV wouldn't be able to buy lunch here with what they made putting it together.
