Cobra 148 gtl Low / No receive audio

The radio has good tx audio and pa audio, so the audio chip is working. I can create audio by do a "finger resitance" across the pcb. any ides where to look? everything on the radio is good except rx audio. Even took anther 148 and jumpered between the red wires on vloume, the radio would create sound from the other radio. RX does work, needle moves and you can pick up some sound by "fingering the pcb..... cobra148 gtl malaysia pcb 1995 build

No audio out / low audio out....This is a constant problem with the COBRA 148 get a good level of volume replace the
electro caps ...start around the two speaker wires and work back from there. I'm in the process of rebuilding a 148 gtl and have found caps that are leaky and dried out...after replacing nine the volume went up to a good i need to fix the distortion
and background hash. Did you know that there are many posts
on FIXYA about this same problem I.E. great TX , great PA but poor , or no audio out. these sets have been made in sevetal countries...The sets made in Taiwan or China have poor quality
front panel pots (the carbon track is micro thin and simply wares through to the material the track is printed on) This has the same effect as removing a wire from a pot I.E. no audio. The good news is that 99% of parts in the radio are freely available and that includes the front panel controls. ONE WONDERS IF THE SET IS WORTH THE EFFORT !!!

Check/replace the resistor that you can jump with your finger. I did the same on a resistor right beside the ta7222 whutever ic and got my receive back, I am sending out weak sound, but not enough to register anything on my tester yet. looking into my final transistor now and other ideas would be appreciated

Is there any hiss coming from the speaker.check first common faults .check speaker might not be working .unplug check speaker with circuit tester to see if it has contact . or put an ex speaker at the rear next to pa see if another speaker will work.

I have an cobra 148 gtl no transmit

If theres no carrier its either the finals or driver. If theres no audio its the white wire in the plug that screws into the radio..its either broke or most likely come unsoldered. It keys but no audio.

Rf out ok no modulation but mike ok

Hook up a speaker to the PA jack on the back of the radio. Put the CB into PA mode and see if any audio is coming out of PA jack. This will tell you if the AUDIO AMP IC TA7222 is good.

Cobra 148 gtl-st wont transmit but receives great

Check first your microphone

• check if TX is engaging when PTT is pushed.

• check for continuity ( mic and cable )

If you have not done these steps,

try it first, or borrow other compatible mic for Cobra 148GTL

from your friends on air.

148 gtl receive issues

The problem is in the audio output chip usually bolted to the inner chassis. Sometimes the chip developes a hairline crack, replacement recommended.

Bad audio ic (yd1022) in cobra 29ltd

Your asking a question i guess.
If you dont have talkback plug your external speaker in the pa port and lower the volume now with the pa/cb switched to pa then key and talk if you have audio the chip is good..
if sill in doubt?
This is the 10 pin chip on the side. When testing this audio chip power up the radio with solder side top cover off use a metal probe with your finger on this probe touch pin 4 and it should squeal this indicates it is good.

I got a cobra 21 from my grandparents house when we were cleaning it out and i am trying to hook up my pa to it but it wont work i checked all my wireing and i am getting power to the radio but the pa is...

If the audio chip is bad in radio you will hear no audio on cb either.
Are you sure it is in right port?
CB/PA switch on PA
Mic bad there is and audio wire the can be broken in mic this will still let needle move on meter.

Hope this helps
