Question about Amana Side-By-Side Refrigerator 26 cu. ft. - ASD2622HR

1 Answer

Everything is out, we have it off, no water is draining. The freezer just stopped cooling, hence the refridgerator side stopped too. I just turned it on after 5 hours. The motor is running and so is the fan. I can hear water dribbling also. I am hoping it will cool. Any suggestions or help. This is the hottest day of the year, and this had to happen today.

Could be that your self defrost mechanism is not working and unit is freezing up and not cooling. Till fixed just defrost overnight and turn on next day. It will run fine for a few days till it freezes up again.

Probably need to replace open heater element. Go to sears web site for part number and then purchase it for less money on ebay.

SOURCE: Amana French Door Refrigerator "on" but no cooling; freezer still works

There are 2 possible problems. One is the defrost cycle is not working properly this is usually indicated by a large amount of frost on the back freezer panel. If so, the circuit will have to be repaired and the evaperator thawed to remove the ice build up. The other is the fresh food damper is not working properly this is behind the "lump" in the back of the fridge compartment above the top shelf, remove the louver panel to see if it is open or closed. closed will be warm open should be cold. The water dispenser reservoir is probably frozen due to poor air circulation.

you kenmore may be held up in defrost . you ll nead to lokate the timer and first try turnig it with a screw driver. sugjest it may be lokated in behind the covers at the rear of the food compartment .

amana is a totaly diferent unit excepy the 9 year old model . lokate you timer as well but you say the compressor runs. if the copressor runs and there is no cold then the must be eather a leak of refrigerant total loss . or inoficient compressor. eather case the fridge this problem is way to expensive to repair and out of woranty. sorry.

kenmore if the timer wasnt the problem now you look at the temp control . it is the one that actualy has an off position. you can try a hard tap with the handle of a screw driver and see if the compressor starts , if not you have to olm it out and see if it has condinuity in the on posision. hope this helps

SOURCE: refrigerator not cooling

You model if the ARB1950C has a defrost timer inside the fresh food compartment and behind the temperature control panel. Need to see if you can manualy turn the timer clockwise until the compressor stops. During that time of 25 minutes the freezer should be in defrost. I believe your timer needs replaced based on how you explained what is happening. The part number for your timer is 67001036 and can be found at the links below. If it stays longer that 25 minutes then it's sticking in the defrost section of the defrost timer and will need to be replaced. If your refrigerator does not restart after about 25 minutes then slowly turn the timer through the opening in the plastic cover. There may be a plug covering the hole to make the hole not so visible. If you should have problems fell free to let me know, Thanks Sea Breeze

SOURCE: I have a Amana model

Hi,

Fan will run periodically only the defrost timer controls it.It will run based on the timer settings and flow the cold air and stops. If it runs continuously the fridge will freeze.

This problem could occur due to various reason.First you have to resolve for the cause of the issue.
1)First Check the back wall or floor of the freezer section for frost. The Freezer(evaporator) fan is running?.This fan problem is very hard to detect. The DC motor for the fan wears out the RPM's are effected. It gives the illusion that it is running fine, but it don't have enough force to supply air circulation for both the freezer and the refrigerator See weather the condenser coil for blockage from dust and the condenser fan is running.
2)If you have frost in the freezer there is a problem with the defrost system and the freezer will start to warm eventually as well as the fresh food section.Defrost system consist of:
a)Defrost terminator.
b)Defrost heater/s.
c)Defrost timer.
d)Adaptive defrost control.
Any one of this part may be defective. So we have to replace or repair accordingly.
* Defrost timer:
Try turning the screw with screw driver in clock wise direction or anticlockwise direction and wait for 35 min to check Defrost timer has any problem.
Solution for If you have frost in the freezer and make the fridge work:
You could defrost the freezer by disconnecting the power to the refrigerator and letting it sit for at least 24 hours with both Doors
wide open to allow the frost to melt completely but it will build up again in 1-2 weeks and start the warming up again.
* Heater and defrost thermostat is located behind the back wall of the freezer section. This only controls the Heat. After the Defrost timer stops it makes the system warm.Defrost thermostat could be defective.
3)Test the temperature control
With the ohm meter you can test it.If it does not show any reading this is the defective one you have to replace this soon.
4)Check for a clogged drain tube if it is clogged remove the clog.
5)Check the temperature setting.
Set it to max and min and check for any changes you can see in the system.
6)The the freezer vents cold air to the refrigerator.Occasionally the vent can become clogged with ice, food or other debris. Locate the vent and clear it. To remove ice, use a hair dryer set to "low". Using the high setting may cause damage to the components or interior of the refrigerator.
7)Test the evaporator fan.The evaporator fan circulates air over the refrigeration coils. The coils absorb heat and the chilled air is then circulated. If the fan does not operate, the freezer will not cool properly. The fan motor may have failed, but check first that something is not simply blocking the fan blade.

For time being Solution:Switch off your Refrigerator for 4-8 hours and melt the "snow" build-up in the freezer section.Use hair dryer to melt it quickly. Now switch on the system and see the cooling effect. It will be increased. The snow" build-up in the freezer section will not allow the cool air to flow into the Refrigerator. There will be valve in the backside through which cool air flows.

post a comment for further assistance.
Thank you for using fixya have a nice day:-)

Refridgerator will not cool. Freezer works fine. Noticed a pool of water on floor then started to cool again. after a few days quit cooling.

Check the water drain hole in bottom of unit. If plugged water cannot get to catch and pan and evaporate with the heating element.

Refrigerator side not cooling

The fresh food section is cooled by the freezer section by forced air supplied by a fan. If you have air flow, check the temp inside the freezer. It should be between 0 and -10. If not look inside your freezer and see if you have ice built up on the back panel. If so you have a defrost problem that is most likely a bad defrost heater, a bad termination thermostat or timer. If ther is no ice then check your fan under the refrig. If you can hear the compressor running it should be turning. If this all checks out then you have a freon system problem like. Low Freon pressure or a restriction.

GE regrigerator not cooling or freezing

first defrost it by turning it off for 1\2 to 1 full day,put towels on the floor to catch the water, when a refridgerator gets frosted up it cant circulate the cold air,and if its one with the freezer on top then the cold air cant blow down into the refridgerator, check inside the refridgerator at the top where the thermostat cover is there will be a vent hole,it could have ice built up so much that its totally blocking the air flow. This usually happens when hot food is put in the refridgerator and causes steam,or the refridgerator runs too much caused by bad door seals,or the cooling fins on the back or bottom underneath plugged with dust and the freon gets too hot causing condensation inside the freezer which causes it to frost up,a plugged drain hole will back up water and freeze, the fan in the freezer may have stopped working, which is about a $60.00 part, and finally a bad defrost element (about a $40.00 part)which is a glass tube inside the freezer with a coiled up wire inside it that heats up at certain times to defrost any ice build up,(which is the last thing to check)

Water drains from freezer compartment into refridgerator

If the freezer is on top then empty out the freezer and remove the bottom and back liner of the freezer compartment usually phillips screws. In the back you will see the freezer coils along with a defrost element. Below these two items u will see a drip tray that collects water from the coils on defrost cycle, in the center of the pan will be a drain hole that connects to a hose that leads to a pan under the refrigerator.Normally the water is collected there and evaporated. The hole in the tray in the freezer is clogged. Thaw it and clean it until you can pour water in it and it goes to the pan down below. please rate me
