Failed inspection, (at a Toyota dealer) was told rear brakes need adjusting. How do I adjust and are they not self adjusting??

To adjust the rear brakes you need to turn the adjusting screw, which is a piece between the brake shoes that has indents around it to help you when adjusting. You need to turn the adjuster enough so that with the drum, it will spin but is firm. Let me know if you need more direction.

How to adjust parking brake. do you need to take anything apart?

You cannot adjust the cables on a minivan manually. the tension is automaitcally adjusted by the self adjuster on the pedal release.

The park brake cables on this vehicle have an automatic self adjuster built into the park brake pedal mechanism. When the foot operated park brake pedal is in its released (upward most) position, a clock spring automatically adjusts the park brake cables. The park brake cables are adjusted (tensioned) just enough to remove all the slack from the cables. The automatic adjuster system will not over adjust the cables causing rear brake drag.

Due to the automatic adjust feature of the park brake pedal, adjustment of the parking brake cables on these vehicles relies on proper drum brake.

When the park brake pedal is applied the self adjuster is by-passed and the pedal operates normally to engage the park brakes.

When a service procedure needs to be performed on the park brake pedal or the park brake cables, the automatic self adjuster can be manually locked out by the service technician.

What is the walbro chain saw carburetor adjustment for a

There is no set adjustment on any chain saw. If it were that simple there would be no need for adjustments. The problem is that most equipment manufactured in the past 10 years can not be adjusted by the user. Carburetors are now equipped with either adjustment limiters which limit the adjustment to less than half a turn or with adjustment screws that require a special tool to make the adjustment. More than likely you will have to take it to an authorized dealer for those adjustments.

If you do have an adjustable carburetor, then gently close both needles and open each on 1 full turn. This should allow the engine to start and the final adjustments can be made at that point. If it still will not start then open each needle 1/8 to 1/4 turn and try again. If this still does not work then most likely your carburetor needs a good cleaning and a rebuild kit.

New rear brake shoes not working properly

You are correct, the brakes are designed to self adjust when you back up, but this is After they have initially been adjusted after a brake job. You say you had to loosen the adjustment some to get the drums back on, this is normal, as the new brake shoes are thicker than the old worn ones. You are not wrong when you thought backing up the truck (and then applying the brakes) will adjust them. What is wrong with this though, is that you would probably have to back up and hit the brakes for a couple of hours if they are in need of quite a bit of adjustment, and that's if the adjusters are working perfectly. You really need to do an initial adjustment while the truck is still jacked up. The rubber grommets should be removed so you can adjust the brakes. It may be difficult to see the adjusters, but that's how you get to them. Do you have a brake adjusting tool? The slight bend in it makes it perfect for getting in the slot. Did you make sure the adjusting wheel is not seized up(or difficult to turn) while you had it apart? To adjust them just right, you can have the wheels on, truck jacked up, adjust and slowly spin the wheel. When you feel a very slight drag, it's adjusted properly. If you over adjust, you need to put a very thin screwdriver through the backing plate and hold the small metal piece that touches the adjusting wheel out and away from the wheel so you can back off on the adjustment. (this small plate is there to prevent the adjuster from loosening by only allowing it to turn in one direction, pushing the plate out of the way allows you to go in the opposite direction, to loosen the brake adjustment).
