Is a sewing machine vintage at 20 years or at 40 years old

That is probably a personal definition. To me, a vintage machine would be one that is more mechanical than computerized. .Some (below) seem to think it would be a heavy metal mechanical machine. But, to throw a monkey wrench into the discussion, what differentiates vintage from antique?

Lower control arm 1994 acura Integra Ls

Follow the below steps to replace the control arm on your vehicle:
1) Apply a coat of silicone grease to the bushings of the new lower control arm. Set the new control arm in place and fasten the bushings using a wrench or ratchet and socket.
2) Insert the control-arm ball joint into the steering knuckle mounting space and tighten the mounting nut. Make sure one of the slots on the ball-joint nut gives you access to the ball joint stud orifice. Then insert a new cotter pin to secure the nut to the ball joint stud using the nose pliers.
3) Connect the rod to the control arm and tighten the fasteners using a wrench or ratchet and socket. Connect the sway bar link to the lower control arm. Hold the bolt with a wrench as you tighten the nut using a wrench or ratchet and deep socket.
4) Mount the tire on the wheel assembly and install the wheel lugs using the lug wrench. Lower the vehicle and finish tightening the wheel lugs with the lug wrench.

Huskylock viking serger machine is very noisy / squealling; oiled / cleaned machine, changed needles... It gets quieter if I sew fast.

some machine make more noise than others, but to be on the safe side I suggest having the machine check to see if there is something else wrong, it could be something is loose or worn in the machine.

98 jetta wolfsburg. Clip that hold cable to arm broke. When replacing the clip I had to jack up the clutch arm with a bottle jack to hook up the cable. The cable will not let the arm drop down where it...

It has a plastic Ratchet style gear at the pedal end of the cable that has to be released. This gear automatically adjust the clutch when the pedal is pressed. Never put a jack against a clutch arm. You will probably have to disengage the cable to reset the ratchet gear. Don't strip the teeth on the gear

I need to adjust my clutch

Pre 1997/9 models of Fords were self-adjusting via the clutch-foot-pedal. The pedal engages a ratchet system called the QUADRANT & PAWL and is part of the pedal. The mechanism is very similar on older Ford models of: Escort, Fiesta, Sierra, Granada, Transit & others. Newer vehicles may have a Hydraulic Clutch from 1997/9 onwards, and these work differently from the cable & pully mechanism. Clutch-fluid can be bled to improve the ability to operate the clutch, however this is not necessarily a method of adjusting the clutch.

If your reading this article because you have a broken clutch-pedal then please read on.

If when pressing the foot-pedal it feels like cable is broken, or pedal is loose, ...This is symptomatic of failure of the QUADRANT & PAWL 'ratchet' mechanism due to wear of teeth on the ratchet.

In some cases the pedal fails to pull the clutch out far enough to change gear, and may make a 'springing noise'. This is due to slippage on some worn ratchet-teeth, but the mechanism has not reached full failure.
There are 2 ways to remedy the fault.

1. Change the Quadrant & Pawl, using only genuine Ford parts. #Beware of inferior mouldings that are not up to standard e.g. too soft, and do not trust 'pattern-parts' on ebay etc.

2. SHORTEN THE CABLE.
  • Disconnect the FOOT-PEDAL-SPRING to release the slack normally taken up by the 'Quadrant & Pawl' (ratchet) which is faulty.
  • Remove end of nipple from clutch-cable (engine-end).
  • Fill slack with bolts & washers or other filler.
  • Drill hole in LARGE nut & bolt (like split pin but inverted).
  • FIT NUT & BOLT TO REMAINING PART OF CLUTCH-CABLE NIPPLE.

ONLY CUT VERY END OF CABLE-NIPPLE LEAVING AS MUCH CRIMP AS POSSIBLE, ...then clamp the nut & bolt over the crimp. This is less likely to slip or even cut cable.

Clutch-cable should be able to be re-fitted without tools or tensioning the clutch-arm. Final tension of cable should leave CLUTCH ARM & CABLE SLIGHTLY LOOSE.

NOTE : Overadjustment of clutch can cause damage. Therfore only remove a minimum of slack from the cable.

The pull cord is not engaging on my hedge trimmer. I started it momentarily, it died, will not engage any more. Please help

It may be just stuck. Try lots of WD-40 in the mechanism. If this doesn't work, the ratchet dog is probably damaged/loose -- will need to be disassembled.

Bally coin slot machine wont let the handle pull

THIS IS DOCTOR FIX. MY BUSINESS IS GAMING REPAIR. (JUKE BOX=PINBALL= SLOT MACHINES
BOWLING =POKER, FOR 68 YEARS.) IF YOU HAVE NOT SOLVED YOU PROBLEM, I ASSUME IT IS ELECTRONIC, NOT MECHANICAL. IF MECHANICAL , LET ME KNOW, I WILL TELL YOU WHAT TO DO.
ON THE ELECTRONIC, OR ELECTRIC (NO COMPUTER)
THERE IS A BAR MOVES ON TO THE CAM ON TOP OF THE CATCH, ABOUT 3 INCHES ABOVE THE BOLT THAT HOLDS THE ARM IN PLACE, WHEN A COIN IS INSERTED INTO THE COIN SHOOT, THAT METAL BAR ENGAGES THE RATCHET , TO SPIN THE WHEELS. DOES THAT HAPPEN ON YOUR SLOT.? OPEN THE DOOR PULL THE WHITE SWITCH THAT CLOSE WHEN DOOR IS CLOSED (OUT) THESE ARE A THREE POSITION SWITCH.

Kenmore model 158-12392

It is a clutch issue.

If you can turn the handwheel manually and the motor belt is running OK but the needle will not move, you will need to check the clutch mechanism for the bobbin winder.

There are three ways for the clutch to engage, and as I do not know your machine, I offer all three for you to see which applies to yours.

Flick winder to the left to engage needle arm motion.......it may activate automatically when the winder is set to wind a new bobbin and de-activate the needle arm

or

there may be a small wheel inside the larger handwheel....tighten the inner wheel to engage needle arm...

or

the handwheel may have a push/pull action ....push in to activate the clutch, pull out for bobbin winding.

If there is any more you need to ask or update your info to refine the question, just post back here, or drop a line through the "Contact Us" page at www.bargainbox.com.au

1471 Pfaff sewing machine will not reengage needle

Possible solution...when you reassemble, the spring needs to lie flat in the channel under the center black slide. When you put the cover back on,the pin or post that sticks up on the black slide has to be in the curved cam slot on the inside of the cover. If it isn't the slide won't move in and out of the slot to engage the main drive.
