Thank you cramsvik. Your tip did help. My screen looks better. I forgot to add that I am using windows xp and my video card is ati 9600 pro. I also have one more question. When I play a full screen game, all the settings I set on my desktop went back to their original settings, and the screen is once again bright (like a layer of fog). Thanks again cramsvik.

Thank you cramsvik for taking your time helping me out. I believe my lcd is a little broken. Yesterday when I was surfing the net, my lcd screen blinked and it got darker but looks great! when I set all the settings to original (same as the crt). This blink i believe is similar to when a crt has a problem displaying red for example, and then blink all of a sudden and display the red color making the screen color looks like what it should be. Thanks again cramsvik for taking your time to help me.

My computer is too bright. I clicked the buttons on the monitor and I have made my Brightness 0 and my Contrast 0. My computer is still way too bright. If you know any solution or suggestion that could fix this problem it would be greatly appreciated.

CRT and LCD will look different when compared side by side. Is your CRT calibrated, or are they right in the sense that they are what you are used to? Also Anyway, you can adjust the colors and light levels from the menu on your screen, and depending on your operating system and graphics adapter you should be able to make adjustments there, too. For windows XP, right click your desktop and select properties->Settings->Advanced. There might be a color management tab. Also, there might be software to help you do this already installed. Look for a program group with the name of your Graphics adapter manufacturer. Very often ATI or nVidia. A few resources to help calibrate:

If you change the settings on the screen itself, I find it strange that playing a game changes it. If you chenge the settings from XP, a game might alter those settings.

If this happens every time, you might see if there are "profiles" that you can save. That way you can just select that profile instead of adjusting every setting manually.

Sorry to say, but I'm having the same problem. If it doesn't change when you press the Fn key and the hollow/right arrow sunshine, then, I doubt there's anything you can do.

How to increase brightness of my monitor i put it

Hi, you can try this; in a clear area of the Desktop screen (right)) click, once the desktop window open, click on Personalize, next click on Display Settings. You can adjust the brightness by by doing the following: On the resolution scale adjust from Low>High; you can do this until you are satisfied with the view. In the (Colors) drop box, click the down (Arrow), and choose the "Highest" color (16bits>32bits) etc. Next click to open the (Advance)) settings, click on the (List All Modes) button, once the window open choose the (Highest) settings: example (1366 by 768, True Color (32bit), 60 Hertz. Remember to click the "Apply", and "OK" buttons after each selection or change. "Hope this helps' Ya"

NEC multiSync 1700V as external monitor for Notebook Toshiba U205, Operating System Window Vista Home Premium. It displays only part (80%) of the picture compared with notebook's monitor.

Hi, if the 17 inch lcd screen is not a widescreen then the problem with the screen is possibly nothing more than the aspect ratio or resolution, which ever way you wanna look at it. All laptops have a widescreen type of ratio, so you will have to be either willing to change the resolution when you switch screens or setup different profiles, which you should beable to do through control panel, appearance and then personalization, you will then have access to it.

Nec 700 crt

Not a solution at all, but I'll post that I have a NEC MultiSync FE700 monitor that I purchased back in 2001, and have I been using the monitor since that time. Lately the monitor has been showing signs of 'acting up'. I read on the Internet that CRT monitors generally have a working life of about six years. It may be, depending on years of use, that the monitors are just reaching the end of their life.
