Why do some wines have a 'bin' number written on the label? does this refer to the quality of the wine?

Bin numbers are used as a way to help manufacturers brand their wine. It has absolutely nothing to do with quality. This branding technique is most commonly found in Australian wines

I really don't like the taste of red wine, but wish I did. How can I train myself to get used to the taste of wine?


Some people consider red wine to be an acquired taste- I think that everyone can learn to love the qualities of red wine varieties. If you are not a red wine drinker, but want to be, I suggest the following: I recommend beginning with a wine light in tannins- such as a white zinfandel. Once you can tolerate and maybe even appreciate this wine then you can move onto other light, even sweeter reds such as a Merlot or Chianti.

How are wines named?


Wines are named for one of two reasons: the grape variety or the region where the grapes were grown.

The first type is named after either the sole (or principle, if blended) grape variety that makes up the wine. Many times a wine is blended; you may not find that information on the label. Each country has its own specifications that dictate the minimum percentage of the named grape that a wine must contain.

The second way to classify wines, by their region, is quite common in Europe. Instead of the label dictating whether the wine is a Merlot, Syrah, or Cabernet Sauvignon; in this case, the label will say Burgundy, Bordeaux, or Sancerre. This technique is used because many of these regions are famous for a certain grape variety.

Other than temperature, is there any other reason not to store wines in a regular fridge? I don't mind my wines being slightly cooler and I can always leave them on the counter for 10 minutes bef


Aside from temperature, humidity is a major concern.
