Question about GE WSM2480DWW Unitized Spacemaker Washer and Gas Dryer

Wash machine water issues

One thing I've noticed about the washing machine. I noticed that the detergent (Tide) wasn't washing off the clothes very well. I checked the water temp. when it was set to warm and noticed it ran ice cold! When I switched to hot, it came out at a drizzle. My temporary solution has been to go buy Tide for cold water but some stuff really needs to be washed in hot or even warm.

SOURCE: Washer Fills HOT WATER ONLY

If you checked the screens at the water inlet valve and they were not clogged, then you probably have a defective water inlet valve and will have to replace it. Hope this helped.

My GE washer is leaving a brown oily residue inside the drum after washes.

I amj thinking that you use soap powder in your washing machine. If that is the case what you are expericing is the accumulated powder residue under the agitator breaking away and marking the clothes. Re move the agitator and clead all the gunk out of the machine including a water recycling(saver ) hoses. Washing powder is 90% clay that is used to carry the active ingredaient and is never completely flushed in the rinse cycle. Ity also cause a deteriation of the hoses and pumpseal. When you have cleaned out the machine I recommend you only use liquid detergents as they are more effective and don't leave the residue.

Why am I getting more water in my front door seal than I used to?

Please reduce the water level if the clothes are sinking below and also if the drain valve is clogged or choked so that it does not drain to the end. Also check if the washer is placed tilted to the drain side to effect full drain of the water within.

Hello harnweys. Definitely switch to another brand of HE detergent, and always choose a liquid as opposed to a powder. Finally, be careful not to overload your machine, set the water level to a higher setting too! Joe

My washer leaves a yellow line on my white clothes

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly. The yellow line is usually a resul of iron particulate in the water the machine uses. There are a few thing you can try to clean the machine.

You will not find this one in any manual.

Put one cup of bleach and 1/4 th cup dishwashing powder straight into the tub and run an empty or "cleaning rags cycle" with HOT water. You can add the juice of a freshly squeezed lemon or use lemon concentrate also with that. You may initially have to do this for 2 to 3 cycles to get rid of the iron deposits. After that you should use one of the products below before returning to reugular wash cycles.

There are other producs out there that you should use per their directions once a month.

and http://www.tide.com/en-US/product/tide-washing-machine-cleaner.jspx

Also make sure you using HE washing machine detergents vs regular washing machine detergent. Here is just one example:

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Soapy smell in clothes

You might need to wash your washing machine.

Most consumers think they are doing what is *normally* the right thing to do, which is to follow directions on the detergent label. In this rare case--those directions should be entirely disregarded.

Additionally--in many LG washers--the liquid dispenser cup (blue cup) has a "MAX" line on the white siphon cap.
This was a very big *faux pas* on LG's part--this "MAX" line has NOTHING to do with measuring detergent and should never be used as a guide for determining correct detergent amount.
The "MAX" line indicates how much liquid must be in the blue dispenser cup before it DISPENSES from the bottom of the cup.
This is a very, very frustrating mistake that gives owners much grief.

After three months of incorrect type of detergent or incorrect amount of the correct detergent used--musty odor begins to occur.
After more than two years--a significant amount of soap scum/curd has accumulated in the washer. Odor-causing bacteria flourishes on this build-up.
It is imperative to remove this slimy residue. Tide sells a product called "TIDE WASHING MACHINE CLEANER" which is very effective if used the proper way:

Once a tub has become heavily contaminated--normal methods of performing a TUB CLEAN cycle won't "cut it".

Add the entire packet of "TIDE WASHING MACHINE CLEANER" directly into the tub (no laundry) and close the door.

Press and hold: SPIN SPEED & SOIL LEVEL buttons--then press POWER button.
Wait for door to lock.

Press the START button (6) times--this will fill the tub with hot water to the maximum setting when it stops filling.

Press the START button two more times--this will enable the tub to tumble.
After 3 hours--turn "off" the washer.
Turn the washer back "on".
Select the shortest wash cycle (usually "quick wash") and press "START". This will rinse out the tub.
This method of "TUB CLEAN" is *not* from a service manual but has been the best method for cleaning out LG washers more than a year into incorrect detergent usage.

After this--use the correct amount of "HE" detergent & perform a "TUB CLEAN" cycle every (4) months using the *tub clean* option on the control panel.
Got that? LOL

Try changing your detergent. I believe it was Tide that caused dark grease type marks on my clothing. It hasn't been a problem since I changed detergents.

Allergic to detergent for front loaders

I have always used regular Tide powder in mine and my kids use Tide liquid in it. You just need to use about half as much. My man is a motor head so he gets DIRTY and I have three teens so I wash a lot of very dirty clothes. My clothes get very clean and I have never purchased the "special" Detergent.

I have had my Duet for three years.
