depending on the type of valve, the newer valves have compression collar type fittings and all you need to do is push up on the collar to release the hose, then simply push the hose back on to re attach to the new water valve, the old ones still require a pliers or wrench to install these types of valvesh

You need to remove the toe kick panel grille below the front doors on the refrigerator behind this grille there is a connector and it can come loose, also possibly the water valve in the lower rear behind the back panel can leak, have a helper press the door paddle for water and check all these areas for leaks,if it leaks from the door stem where the water line goes up the door to the dispenser, then you will need to pull new hose up to the dispenser from the collar mentioned at first, some refrigerators can not have new hose installed due to the door has been foamed internally at the factory and cant be dis-assembled,then you would need a new door with the hose installed

The leak is coming from the back. I removed the back panel last night to verify. Sounds like it is the water valve. Any suggestions on a fix for this?

The fill valve that supplies the water may not be shutting off completely. Also check to see that the lever is closing completely.

This sounds like the float mechanism has gone bad. Remove it and have a look. It may be the float or the switch on it that is bad. There is also a solenoid valve. Parts kits are available. Shut off the water first!

SOURCE: 10 yr old GE side by side: freezer is leaking

Your drain is frozen up and so every time unit goes into defrost the water refreezes in the freezer's bottom. You either have to shut fridge off completely and let it dethaw or use hot water and an ice pick to hurry up the process. The drain is located in the very back of freezer. You will have to pull out the bottom drawer to see it. Good luck

Clean the drain pan and drain line in the back of the freezer section behind the cover underneath the evaporator coil. (hint: use turkey baster with hot water) Make sure water drains when you pour it in. If it doesn't - also clean drain tube on the back of the unit behind the cover. When done - put the tube exactly where it was.
Good luck! :)

Rust ruining door at lower corners of ice/water dispenser.

when you dispense ice or water, you are allowing the drip tray to overfill and the water builds underneath the tray until the water reaches the point were it will leak down the front of the door. the water will rust the panel beyond repair. you will have to replace the whole door at this point. hope this helps.
