Try disconnecting any USB attached devices, or booting into Safe Mode and disable all StartUp items.
Type MSConfig in RUN to bring up the Startup options

You may have other issues going on other than spyware or viruses that are infecting your computer. You might wish to try to save everything that you want to save to an external hard drive, and try re-installing XP onto your computer. You can also remove the motherboard HUB battery, located directly on the motherboard, leave it out for about 15 minutes or so, thereby erasing all of the motherboard settings and then putting it back in. Sometimes a computer may have too many programs that are starting up when XP starts, such as office, Adobe, or even your internet service. Try doing a disk clean-up, defragging the computer, removing programs that you do not use, and making sure that you are not infected by any malicious programs such as spyware or viruses, also. I myself like to save everything to my Western Digital 80GB external, and reinstal XP once a year. Gives my custom-build a nice clean system to start from, like a breath of fresh air. It does help. Make sure that everything is saved to an external hard drive first, then unplugging it to ensure that your computer cannot access it before you do these tasks. I hope that this helps. Good luck!!    yuva

Has blue screen

Blue screen 99% of the time can only be fixed by reinstalling Windows XP or Vista which ever you have. I just had to do that. so if you don't have an install disk you get get one through microsoft windows or you can find them cheaper like on sites like Craigslist
Hope this helps you!

Dell latitude e4200 restarts with blue screen

Sounds like the image doesn't have the right drive controller driver included. Could be because the image was created on a different laptop or could be the drive controller is configured differently. You can confirm this from the STOP error code on the blue screen

Go into the BIOS setup (probably F2 at boot) and see if the controller mode is set to AHCI. If so, set it to compatibility or combined(?) and try again.

Either way, if you've installed an image for the wrong hardware, you probably should do a remedial install. Boot from your Windows XP disc and follow the prompts as if you were doing a clean install until you get to the license agreement. At the next screen, it should show you any existing Windows installs and give you a new option to repair. Let this go - it won't touch any user files, just replace all the Windows files with those from the CD. Have your system drivers and service packs handy to tidy up when it's done.

The problem is your computer uses a SATA hard drive and windows XP doesn't naitively support SATA. You have three options around this.
  1. Go into BIOS and if you have disable SATA/AHCI and set it to SATA/IDE emulation mode
  2. Download nlite http://www.nliteos.com/download.html and download sata drivers from intel's website and build your own windows XP disc and incorporate the sata drivers into it. Then use this disc to install.
  3. Download VirtualBox http://www.virtualbox.org/ and install XP in a virtual machine to run on top of Windows 7
Windows XP will go end-of-life in 2014 and then Microsoft will no longer make software that is compatible FYI.
Comment if you need any additional assistance.

Hi,

Improve the Fixya.com experience for everyone by voting!

Unfortunately, I would either have to be in the chat mode or on the telephone with you to fully analyze your problem and provide a coherent answer. But don't despair because there is a little FREE program that may solve your problem.

It happens periodically that our computer shuts down, restarts, hibernates or some other weird thing when we really don't want it to. I'm going to pass on to you a FREE and hard to believe program from Microsoft! I have no idea why this little program hasn't been advertised but then I don't own their stock.

Just click on the following link and your problem should be solved: Download Microsoft's Fixit

I don't know your skill level so my suggestion is that you utilize the automatic function of Fixit.

Be a hero and fix your friends' computers; just don't tell them how you did it! That will be our little secret.

All the best,

Ben

There is severe corruption in the kernel (the core files) of your OS and the drivers are no longer loaded. Since you don't know what caused (probably some bad drivers since this motherboard is too old and doesn't have the correct Win 7 ones) it the only sure way to resolve it is to perform a full reinstall of XP.

My Computer will turn on and go to the windows XP loading screen with the blue bars and will won't load up, it rarely does but when it gets to the log on user screen it freezes

Right after your POST screen goes off, before you get to Windows starting, try pushing the F8 key several times until you get the Windows boot options. Then try 'last known good configuration".
If that doesn't work, you can boot from the Windows installation disk and try to repair your Windows installation.Let me know what happens.
And good or bad, please rate my post?
