Try installing on top of its self. It may create another directory and rename the original Window (old). This however will cause you to lose your settings like installed apps and documents. They will be in the OLD folder, but not readily accessible on the new install.

Hello Rachel,
The memory of your laptop was dump. Open the back panel of your laptop using the screw driver open it.. then you will see the your memory card remove it and clean it with the eraser .. or if you have two memory card just take off the other one. and try to on. If the problem occur swap the other one. I'm sure it will work fine now..

Inspiron n5040 will not pull up any websites

Inspiron N5040 requires either a Wireless-N router (for Wireless-N Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n)) or a Fast Ethernet (10/100) connection.

Assuming that you can connect to the internet (i.e., your router and your ISP connection is okay), you may download the latest drivers for your OS from Download free driver for notebook Dell Inspiron N5040 Windows 7 XP Vista . Hope this helps.

My inspiron 1018 won't boot. i need to reinstall or repair my software. it does not have a cd drive. please advice action.

The Dell Inspiron Mini 10 series of netbooks come with recovery software that can restore your netbook's original factory settings. Dell Inspiron Mini 10 netbooks with Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 can be recovered to the factory settings using a recovery partition on the hard drive.
Windows Vista or 7
Turn on or restart your Dell Inspiron Mini 10 netbook. Press the "F8" key repeatedly when the "Dell" logo appears on the screen to be redirected to the "Advanced Boot Options" menu.
Highlight "Repair Your Computer," and then press "Enter."
Highlight the language layout you want to use for your keyboard and click "Next." Enter your username and password if prompted. Click "OK."
Click "Dell Factory Image Restore," and then click "Next." The recovery software on some Dell Mini systems may require you to click "Dell Factory Tools" followed by "Dell Factory Image Restore" and "Next."
Click "Next" if you understand the netbook will be restored to its original factory settings. The recovery process will begin.
Click "Finish" when a message appears saying the recovery is complete. The netbook will restart and boot up to the Windows Vista or Windows 7 set-up screen, where you can begin personalizing your netbook.

Windows XP Recovery
Turn on the computer. Press the "Ctrl" and "F11" keys at the same time while the computer is booting up to access the recovery software.
Click "Restore."
Click "Confirm" to begin the recovery process, which shouldn't take longer than 10 minutes.
Click "Finish" to restart the computer and finalize the installation. Click "Yes" to restart the netbook again. The computer will boot up to the Windows XP setup screen

Here is a link which will take you to the site which will allow you to download a ZIP file with a WEB PAGE type service manual for your 1018, after a 45 second wait. (They want you to sign up for premium service but NOT NEEDED) Click again after wait?
After download, open the ZIP file and copy all contents to a new folder. Double click the Contents.html file to open in a web browser, then use the built in shortcuts to navigate the manual.

Hi I turn on my laptop and it brings me to a black screen that gives me the options to either run windows repair (recommended) or start windows normally. If I run the repair it instantly brings me to that...

Hello!!

1. If you have the windows vista/7 dvd then put it in, boot from it but when it comes to install step , check for the REPAIR SYSTEM option at the bottom,
2. select that option and choose -> startup repair.
3. follow onscreen steps and wait for system reboot.

If everything goes fine it will start but if this doesn't work then you'll be needed to reinstall the whole OS..

P.S. any OEM/Retail Disk will work fine.

Hope it Helps..!!

Wont turn on properly

Hi,
Press the F8 key about 7 times slowly when you see the DELL logo screen after the restart.
Select the option Repair my computer.
The start up and repair window would come up follow the wizard . It should fix the issue .
If it does not , it would give you more options to try repair the system. Try system restore from the options.
If none of the above steps work , it time to reset your computer to factory settings. A corrupt vedio driver update, is the cause of this problem

Thanks
