Hi whistler1410, you need to enter your bios menu. Press the delete key every couple of seconds to load the bios menu.

Once in the bios (See instructions located at the bottom of the menu, to help you move about).
You should see all connected drives at the main menu.
This includes the SATA writer & hard disk drives.
Go to the bios menu, BOOT.
SATA drive even DVD drives are seen by the bios as a master drive. So within the BOOT menu go to "Boot device priority".
The boot priority should read as follows.

First boot device [Floppy disk drive] (If one is connected)
Second boot device [Your SATA DVD writer]
Third boot device [Your primary hard disk drive] (The drive with windows loaded on it).
If you do not have a floppy disk drive than make the first boot device your DVD writer.
Save the bios & exit the bios. You should not receive "boot disk error message anymore".

Run into a problem, post here.
Good luck whistler1410!

    Hi Robert,

    checked Asus for bios update.

    A7V133 Beta BIOS 1010.01B, 2003/03/21 update.

(Support 48 Bit HDD). This bios update will not help your issue.

It's recommended never to flash your bios unless your sure it will correct an issue.
The max data transferable bus speed of this board is 100MHz. Even if you attach a SATA drive, DVD or Hard disk drive your locked in by the motherboards bus speed. The motherboard uses an ATA 100 controller. When you added the PCI SATA card to your system you added another controller. Your board can only support the controllers built into the board.

Are you using both IDE ports? How many IDE drives do you have in the system & include IDE CD/DVD drives.

(Do not include the SATA writer. My bet is that all the current motherboard controllers are being used. Most likely this is why the "bios" does not see the SATA PCI card or more importantly the DVD writer. If you had a SATA hard disk drive & connected it to the SATA card I'll bet the bios would not see the SATA drive either.

Now you should be able to use the adapter at this next link for your SATA writer but You'll need an opened IDE port.

    http://www.buyextras.com/coata66hadrt.ht...

    Here is the Google search link;

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...+

I have come across this issue before. Getting too old & forget from time to time. If you want 100% confirmation of this you can call Asus tech at: 1-812-282-2787 IL U.S. M-F 8:00 to 5:00PM.

Do not use your manual, its too old & the above number is correct. Oh & by the way, Asus web site is one of the most used sites on the web, other than Google. There is a chance that the IDE to SATA controller will also not show your SATA DVD writer in the bios.

    Keep me posted Robert!

    Mike

    Robert,

please call Asus tech. This issue should work. Your board uses controllers to run IDE ports & PCI ports. Ask to pro's. You can call Asus at the above number I listed. You should be able to download the Beta bios: A7V133 Beta BIOS 1010.01B
    Support 48 Bit HDD.

There is a glitch on those AV7 boards ata controler I think. Check the website for the new drivers supposedly they help, but all they did was crash my raid after I installed them. I ended up cloning the whole raid over to a single large sata drive and put in an ide to sata card (non raid unfortunately) and the problem went away. I only had the problem under very heavy disk loading. It seemed to not be quite so bad when I added some additional cooling aimed at the motherboard. As to if it will help your software problem I am unsure. However the only time mine did the mini dump was when I was doing heavy video editing work and after nixing the raid it fixed it, But then again a bad drive in a raid can cause that also.

Booting Problem

Hi there.

You will need to open your BIOS settings, and change your boot sequence/priority so that it includes PCI cards. Save and exit, and see if it then boots.

If you need anymore help, or need me to clarify anything, I'll be happy to help.

You are almost there. Go into your BIOS and enable RAID. Then your raid bios should show up on next boot.

Most of the new systems and motherboards support SATA connectors onboard. In your case there is none as you have found. So the best option is always upgrading to a new motherboard in case you need to add more SATA drives. You can also try to find SATA add-on cards, may a little costly types. These cards use PCI interface and very easy to install but hard to find one. I hpoe you could find one from a hardware store near you. If your motherboard has ordinary PCI slots then the SATA adpter will be less costly, otherwise (if it features a PCI-X slot) it will be costly. Following is a simple description on what the market has to offer: SATA II - 150 4Ports PCI-X with NCQ, Raid 0+1, Raid 0 and Raid 1 ! You can upgrade your desktop computer to have four Channels Serial ATA Generation 1 and Generation 2 transfer rate of 1.5 Gbps. The board provides a 64bit, 133 MHz PCI interface on the host side and four, fully compliant Serial ATA ports on the device side to access Serial ATA storage devices such as hard disk drive, ZIP drive, CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD-ROM. Note: Fault tolerance: RAID 0 (Striping), RAID 1 (Mirroring), RAID 0+1 (mirrored-stripping) and RAID 1+S (Mirrored-Sparing) improve the data performance and provide the data redundancy and rebuilding.
