Compressor and fan stop working

There is a possibility that the defrost timer turned the compressor and fans off and stuck in the defrost lobe of the defrost timer. I want you to try turning the defrost timer slowly clockwise. The defrost timer is in location 257 behind the control panel inside the fresh food compartment. Here is a photo of the parts location HERE
If doing this causes the refrigerator to work again then replace the=> WR9X489 Defrost Timer

If this does not work I want you to try something else so let me know what happens Thanks

Freezer is not deforsting

If your model you listed is a TFX27PRBWW it will have a defrost timer located in the fresh food compartment and behind the controls. It's location is 257 in this photo HERE I would like you to turn the timer clockwise slowly until youi hear the compressor and fans stop. This should put the refrigerator into defrost if the defrost heater is still working. Did you hear any crackling or sizzle when place into defrost this way? Wait up to 35 minutes for the timer to come out of defrost and it should restart the refrigerator compressor and fans. If it does not come on automatically then simply turn the timer slowly clockwise again until they do restart. If you need to turn timer again to start refrigerator you will need to replace the timer=> WR9X489 Defrost Timer
2_1_2013_8_42_52_pm.jpg

If the defrost timer is not the problem then we move to the freezer side, remove the rear panel of freezer and defrost the frost covering the evaporator as in this photo HERE The model TFX27PRBWW takes a=> WR51X10055 Defrost Heater Assembly
2_1_2013_8_53_33_pm.jpg

and the defrost thermostat=> WR50X122 Defrost Thermostat
2_1_2013_9_08_25_pm.jpg

The defrost heater is location 230 and the defrost thermostat is location 24 in this photo HERE Instructions in testing these parts are located on the parts pages I listed above. Please let me know if the model number is different than the one above your post so I may help you better, Thanks Sea Breeze

Fridge stopped cooling but freezer works what could it be

Most likely the=> WR09X10041 Defrost Timer
8_16_2012_6_32_05_pm.jpg

found inside the fresh food section and behind the control panel. Click HERE for the location. Part location number 648 is the defrost timer. Location number 618 is the=> WR51X10038 Defrost Heater Assembly
8_16_2012_6_39_15_pm.jpg
If you change the defrost heater then you should also change the WR50X10071 Defrost Thermostat
8_16_2012_6_44_55_pm.jpg

and that is the location number 620 found HERE First I want you to try turning the defrost timer slowly clockwise until compressor and fans stop. Leave like this up to about 30 minutes. You should hear crackling and sizzle noise inside the freezer. If after 30 minutes the compressor and fans do not restart this will indicate the defrost timer and that part will need replaced. Try that first and let me know what happens. I will be here to answer questions if you like, Thanks Sea Breeze

I have a GE profile Fridg PSS26NSTASS where is the defrost timer located

The PSS26NSTASS does not have a defrost timer. The defrost on that model is controlled by the motherboard=> WR55X10942 Board Assembly Main Control On your model if not defrosting it will most likely be caused by the=> WR51X10055 Defrost Heater It also does not hurt to replace the=> WR50X10068 Defrost Thermostat
while inside freezer changing out the defrost heater. Click here=> PSS26NSTASS Freezer Components
In that photo location 230 is your defrost heater and location 240 is your defrost thermostat. Here is a=> PSS26 Service Manual if you don't already have Adobe Acrobat Reader Click HERE I will be here should you have any questions, Thanks Sea Breeze

Need location of defrost timer

The refrigerator you listed does not have a defrost timer. All defrost and refrigerator functions are controlled on rear of the refrigerator. It's called a mother board. If it s damaged you will sometimes see burns on one of the both sides, but not always. Another problem could be that your defrost element or defrost thermostat is defective. You can see your refrigerator below by putting the model GSS201EMBWW into the model search feature. I am here to help you if you want, Thanks Sea Breeze

Here is another link here on FixYa that shows the mother board
