The postiver and negative reversed will not cause this problem if speakers or wires are shorted then yes. you may have either bad outpiy transistors or bad 15v regulator transistors,

You might have the polarities on the speakers crossed, check all speaker connections to make sure the pos and neg are connected correctly. If they are crossed, this will cause the receiver to short out, thanks
