Repainting without adequate drying time will cause this. Make sure paint is dry. Use 180 grit sandpaper in swirling pattern to sand down the problem areas, idea is to feather edge the paint so you don't feel and ridges between the transition layers when you sweep your hand over them. Then prime the bare metal, then repaint entire door for best results.

How do I fix gloss paint that dried with multiple matte areas after second coat was applied? 1st coat went on fine and dried glossy.

the matte areas could be blushing from the paint
although the temp was 68 degrees it is the humidity in the air that causes the problem
when covering gloss with a second coat , it may be advisable to rough up the gloss coat first

How to spot paint repair your car, etc!

Easy job for anyone in 9 simple steps!
1st) You will want to have a few simple tools.(Sanding paper, Auto Paint, Clear Gloss, A paint gun or airbrush, primer, masking tape and/or masking paper, car wax.)

**** [Note: the directions for each of these tools and/or products are clearly marked when you buy them & ech one's uses is different, so please follow directions for each!]

2nd) You will separate that spot from the rest of your car by masking off that area.

3rd) You will sand that area down to the metal.

4th) You will take your sand paper (Medium grit) and scuff up the area.

5th) You will clean all dust from that area by blowing it off and/or washing it off (Simple soap and water will do), then dry it completely.

6th) You will spray primer the area to be fixed. (one or 2 coats will do.) then let it dry.

7th) You will scuff the area up with sandpaper again (medium grit) then lay your basecoat paint down on it (3 to 4 coats) and let it dry between each coat.
8th) You will scuff the area up again with the medium grit sandpaper and you will spray clear gloss over it (3 to 4 coats) and let it dry.

9th) You will wash clean againthe area and buff to more of a showroom glow!!!

Now you are done!
You can apply these basic methods to most any paint jobs, for they are the basic way an pro auto painter does a good paint job....

you should use some different grades of wet and dry sand paper to get back too the metal
some masking and primer spray

How do I fix paint chips on the hood?

I suggest you keep touching in the spots and building up the level over time until it is slightly proud of the surrounding paintwork. When fully hardened the surface of the spot should be flatted with a small block. I use the end of a short piece of 3/8 or 1/2 inch wooden dowel with a circle of fine abrasive paper glued to it. I sand wet and begin with 600 grit and finish with 1000 or 1200 grit. Once the area is flush it can then be polished with a polishing compound such as farecla and finished with T-cut.
A coat or two of lacquer can be applied or a few coats of hard wax polish.

How to bring back the color....what to put on it????

In this article you will learn the best way to spray paint anything from wood frames auto parts.
Difficulty: Moderate Instructions things you'll need:

  • primer
  • spray paint
  • microfiber towl
  • 300 grit sandpaper
  • 800, 1000,1200,1500 grit wetsand paper
  • 2000 grit wetsand paper
  • clearcoat
  • rubbing compound
  • medium cut polish
  • wax
    • 1

Start by removing the part that needs to be painted. (You can also tape around it, but be careful about overs pray)

    • 2

Sand the part with the 300 grit sand paper until the surface is a little rough. This is necessary for the primer to bond with the surface. After sanding wipe down the part with micro fiber cloth.

    • 3

Lightly spray the part with primer. A few light coats are better than one heavy coat. Make sure to allow proper drying time between coats.

    • 4

After a few light coats of primer have been applied, wetsand with the 800 grit sandpaper. After wet sanding, wipe again with micro fiber cloth.

    • 5

Now it is time to apply the color. When spraying the spray paint make sure to use smooth even passes across what is being painted. Do not start painting on top of the part because the paint will be heavier in that area. When painting you want to press and release the button to the side of the product being painted. Again a few light coats are better than one heavy one and make sure to allow proper drying time between coats.

    • 6

After you are satisfied with the color, wetsand with 800 grit sandpaper and then wipe with micro fiber cloth.

    • 7

Now it is time for the clear coat. Spray the clear coat the same way as the spray paint. Only one or two light coats are needed. Allow the clear coat plenty of time to dry as this is the layer that you will see most. You don't want any fingerprints on your final surface!

    • 8

After the clear coat has had more than enough time to dry, You now want to wetsand with the 800 grit, then the 1000 grit, then 1200, then 1500, and finally the 2000 grit sandpaper. This should remove any heavier spots in the clear coat and will polish your painted product up very nicely.

    • 9

Next you need to remove the scratches left by the 2000 grit. For this you will need to buff the surface with rubbing compound.

    • 10

Now you need to buff the surface with a medium cut polish to give the surface a nice glassy look.

    • 11

Whether it be exterior or interior parts that have been painted, I always add a couple coats of wax to the surface. This acts as a protectant to the clearcoat and gives it a nice smooth feel and also helps repel dirt.

How to re-paint scaped and scuffed car bumpers and fenders

In my experience, it's good to get paint that is matched to the original manufacturer's color from a place like NAPA auto parts.

Ask about the 'flex' agent as well, as many bumpers are made of plastic which will need it for a satisfactory result.

Then, get an air brush or detail paint gun and an air compressor (small) that can power it.

Sand the affected area with coarse down to fine sandpaper until relatively smooth.

Spray grey or red primer on the masked off area.

Fill the canister with paint and spray the scuffed and scraped bumpers or fenders.

You can paint small areas outside or in a large dust free garage, or preferably in a paint booth that has down draft ventilation.

Wear proper apparel for painting when you do this.

New paint can fill many cracks on several coats.

Bubbling paint Under the wter and ice despenser.

Hey! Ours did the same thing, they also sell small tube of appliance paint, it has a brush like finger nail polish...anyway I used very fine sand paper to clean up the area, and sanded the rust off that was under the bubbled paint, and then painted a thin layer of the paint..wait until dry and add another coat. I did this about 4 or 5 times and it looks great now! I bought the paint at Walmart next to the spray paints....
