Most likely the switch at the back of the headphone plug is not working properly, this requires the laptop to be dismantled and have the jack repaired/replaced. Very expensive at most places. was it working previously?

ibm sound card is not faulty, because you are getting sound with your head phone. The head phone jack have two functions 1. to give output to head phone 2. to disconnect internal speakers when you plug in head phone.
The jack for headphone in normal position not give connectivity to internal speakers.
SOLUTION : REPLACE THE HEADPHONE JACK.
I think it will help you.

Hello,

Plug the speakers in to the head phone jack on the lap top but keep top volume on the laptop FAIRLY LOW. Then play some music and adjust the volume on the speakers.

It it is still not loud enough turn the volume on the laptop UP A LITTLE.

If you turn the volume up on the laptop too much the sound will distort.

Hope that helps.

Sound is very low and all volume controls seems to be turned up

if its a laptop you will find a volume control on the side or front of the laptop, which works in conjunction with the on-screen controls.

Unable to connect my frontech 2.1 one speaker to the laptop the moment i connect to teh headphone socket the sound stops i tried using other speaker in the same head phone socket it work fine . how do...

Did you check the speaker setup in the control panel once you plugged the frontech speakers? Maybe if you define the speaker setup as 2.1 instead of the default stereo it will work.

No headphone sound, but internal speaker works fine.

Hello,

Hello,

It is because that your internal speaker is the default play back device other than your head phone or external speaker.

Need to go to your sound setting.

Depend on your operating system, click Start, then click Control panel, then click Hardware and Sound, click Sound.

Under Playback tab, select your external speaker or head phones as default device.

I can hear a loud rumbling sound when i turn my laptop on.

Sounds like one of three things... A CD not seated correctly... 2 internal Fan maybe bad or 3 your Hard Drive could be failing.

Make sure you have a back up... use a thumb drive i you can... faster.

If it is the HD then the noice would change as you are doing tasks. As its working it will change tunes.

A Fan may stop and start... there is a fan vent at the side or bottom of the laptop... see if it is coming from there.
