I have the same problem my LG plasma 42". I just called LG cust. service and they said that I am 6 months out of warranty, but that they will cover parts. I need to fax them a copy of the purchase receipt, they will then provide me with the contact info for repair. Good luck, HTH.

Hi James,
This could be one of two problems. I can't narrow it down any further without having the set in front of me.
1. The plasma panel or the componets which supply electricity to the plasma in the panel have packed up.
2. The video processing unit in the set has gone.
As for the cost of repair, if it's the panel, buy a new TV. It'll be cheaper. If it's the component that supplies the electricity to the plasma on the panel or the video processing unit, expect to pay between 300-400 as a conservative estimate for parts. Labour would be another 100-200.

Hope this helps

The culprit will usually be the lower y-sus video board which is a common problem with lg plasma sets.

easiest way of finding out is to get a competent person to remove the back panel-remove the board and power the set up-if it is this board the set will display the top half of the picture only-when replaced no picture will be displayed.

these boards can be obtained on e-bay for between 60 and 90 pounds and take minutes to fit.

estimated cost of a proffesional repair £400-600.

Have a plasma samsung hpt5054 i have sound no picture is it worth fixing thanks

On a plasma that usually means a problem in the power sections. You should be able to get an estimate from a repair shop or Samsung repair depot. On that size of tv it should be cheaper to repair than replace unless it is several years old. Usually on a smaller tv just out of warrenty the cost to repair is worth more than just going out and buying a new tv.

As long as you know your replacement cost and get an estimate you will come out on top.

Sounds like the video card went out. It's a technical thing and only tv repairman can repair. Some give free estimates and some repairmen waive the estimate if you allow the repair. Good luck.

LG plasma tv made loud popping noise

The plasma gas tubes may be damaged or the gas couldve leak out. remember plasma have to remain upright at all times even when transporting them, if they are not you should just set it up straight for about 3-4 hours before turning it on.

Lg 42" has no picture. but has sound.

Ther aren't any customer fixes for these plasma TVs. When you have no picture on a plasma TV there as many as 4 different circuit boards that could cause it. Sometimes it will require the replacement of more than one board. Call LG fro help. Depending on the age of the TV they may help with repair costs. At the very least, they can refer you to a local factory authorized service center.

Does this make sense?

Hey graceylou,

Unfortunately, the estimate provided by the repair technician may be correct. While screens can generally be replaced, they often prove to be one the most expensive components of any LCD or plasma TV.

If you are in doubt of the prices quoted to you however, I would strongly suggest contacting LG directly for more information. Many manufacturers are able to provide ballpark figures for replacement parts, especially those that are the most prone to damage or susceptible to hardware failure. Remember that labor charges may not be included in any estimate provided to you by LG, so you may wish to confirm with your repair tech if these charges were included in the $1,200.00 you were initially quoted.

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron

LG Plasma Problem

This could be the main drive board failed, or the plasma display backplane has a defect. These types of repairs are generaly fairly expensive.

I would be considering to get an estimate just in case it is simple fault. But, if the repair will cost more than a few hundred dollars, I would strongly suggest a new set. Also, servicing an older set is a gamble in case something else will soon fail.
