SOURCE: how do you replace the meter light in a cobra 25?

You need to open the unit up ( remove the case/cover). Then remove the 4 screws holding the face plate on. Remove all the knobs ( they slip off) . remove any screws holding the meter on ( there may be none depending on which model you have ) . slide the meter out of the face plate and replace the meter with a new meter. Note: The meter light needs to be reistalled in the new meter. It simply slides out the side of the old meter and slide back in the new meter. Replace all the screws, and the jobs completed.

Good Luck and a good weekend to you.

SOURCE: CB keeps blowing fuses

There are a few common reasons the fuse keeps blowing:

1. The transmitter final transistor is bad, it usually is directly connected to the 12v source and not switched by the power switch.
2. The power wires were accidentally reversed I.E. positive to ground, neg to 12v. There is a protection diode on the circuit board that did its job and is now shorted. it will keep blowing fuses until its replaced.

SOURCE: cobra 29 ltd classic cb not transmitting

Check the ground. Make sure its grounded well on bare metal. To see if the ground is bad, or not making good connection, disconnect the antenna and turn it on. if it does not power up, that means your ground is bad, and it was grounding only through the antenna.

Make sure not to key up with out the antenna connected.

Check all the fuses. You more than likely blew some main fuses. I think there are a couple near the positive battery cable end.

I have a cobra 29 that is new and wont power up when wired up

hi have you tried checking the external fuse to the back of the unit, if i remember ( as it was such a long time ago ) i had an older version of this and there was a screw type fitting on the back ( normally black ) that houses a small 2amp fuse, check to see if this has either blown or broke, there is also an internal one on the circuit board this is also a small 2amp fuse, if it voids the warranty i would not do that one, the other option as it is new is to get a replacement...hope this helps

Cobra 148GTL

Hello k007,

It sounds like you may have damaged the RF power amplifier stage of the CB. Since you were adjusting the antenna characteristics. Did you have a SWR (Standing Wave Ratio) meter connected while you were tuning the unit? If you did you might have noticed the needle go past the 1.2 mark when you were adjusting the antenna or the unit itself. In any event I think that the RF power Amp is shot.

Thank you,
Shuttle83
