Question about Motorola Walkie Talkie 2-Way Radio
Also, the "Scan/monitor" button (used to scan for activity on a channel) doesn't work (it's like it's picking up a signal on every channel, but it's all static) The rx (receiving) icon shows up continually. It didn't not do this when we first got it (Christmas present), but can't find a way to fix it now. It's a Talkabout MG160 series. Button choices are "call tone/keypad lock" "Scan/Monitor", "+" "-" and "Power/menu". Instructions that came with the set don't shed any incite.
It sounds like your monitor button is stuck and you are hearing the white noise. Try pressing the monitor button on your other radio and see if the noise is the same. If so, your button is stuck. If not...
Sometimes a lot of static can be an indication of a bad or poorly charged battery. To check for this trade batteries with your known good radio and see if it solves the problem.

Normaly the Talk about family has the lock funtion, to remove this funtion just press and hold the menu boton for 5 or even 10 seg. You will heard a "beep" and the icon will appear or desappear. Good luck Neto

Your radio is in scan mode. You can shut off scan by referring to page 8 in the user guide http://www.giantintl.com/ContentManage/manuals/Moto/T4500_User_Manual_E.pdf

SOURCE: The battery is fully charged
Your batteries are either no good, or not charged. When you press the PTT button it takes more energy than being in standby mode. If you have a battery problem it will fail quickly when the PTT is pressed.
Rechargeable batteries last approx. 18-24 months. Check your battery for a 3-digit date code. It is usually a 3 digit number followed by a couple of letters. The numbers tell the date of manufacture. The first number is the year, followed by the week of the year. 025 would be 2010 the 25th week. (or if very old it could be 2000 the 25th week.)
If you feel age is not a problem, you might check your charger(s) to see they are fully powered, and clear of debris on the contacts (and the radio contacts as well). Clean with a pencil eraser if needed.
A few tips: Be certain when placing your radios on the charge they are turned off. Check your wall outlet to be certain it doesn't get shut off with a light switch. Expect to replace your batteries every 2-3 years.
