Question about Mitsubishi WD-52525 52" Rear Projection HDTV
Most of the time when I turn the TV on, there will be sound, but no picture. Then after about 10 or 20 seconds it will shut off. But sometimes, the screen will turn on for a few seconds before it shuts off. And then sometimes it will start up with no problems. When it does shut down, I have checked the diagnostic code and it show 34 (Lamp failure). I did replace the lamp about 8 months ago, and since it does work sometimes, I have ruled out the lap itself. Having done some research, it seems to be the Ballast failing. Though I did have the ballast replaced years ago when it was experiencing the overheating problem that seemed to be common with this model. I have been searching for a replacement ballast but every online store with a reasonable price seems to be sold out. Does the ballast seem like a reasonable culprit? And where can I get one cheap? thanks!!
Ballasts were sometimes problems with this set, but I also ran into problems with lamp thermal sensor. It's a small rectangular device sort of cream color and about 1/8th X 3/16th X 3/4 inch in size with lead coming out of one end. Also check safety interlock switch, which is actuated by lamp access cover being properly closed.

Here's something that might also be useful. After you turn on the set, and get the regular red blinky lights, hold down the Device and Menu buttons together for about 5 seconds.
The Power light will start to flash in a two digit sequence.
For example, 3 flashes, then 7 flashes = 37.
Here are the error codes, and the corresponding problem:
12 = No error detected, check power supply.
32 = Lamp Cover is open.
33 = Air filter cover is open.
34 = Lamp abnormality
36 = Light Engine (DMD or Lamp Fan stopped)
37 = Exhaust or Lamp Ballast Fan stopped
38 = Lamp Temperature High
39 = DMD Temperature High
41 = Short is detected
44 = DVI cable between FMT and Engine disconnected

Who needs a repair manual when I have you guys!! Last weekend, my 52525 died almost three years to the day. So rather than throw it away or spend hundreds (not to mention the inconvenience) of dealing with a repair shop - I read your posts. So I dismantled the unit (easily with all the great advice), found the swollen caps, ordered replacements from Mouser, installed, reassembled and the set works perfectly. Also cleaned and realigned the mirrors while it was apart. Like a new TV. Cannot thank you guys enough. Not to mention my family thinks I'm a hero!!

It can be the lamp. But the color wheel and ballast can cause the same thing. Put your ear to the back of the set when you push the power button and you should can here the color wheel start up. If not, that is your problem.
Now if the lamp is not lighting up. you should here a ticking sound from the back of the set, if not the ballast is bad. If the lamp is coming on and then going out after only about 5 seconds AND you do not here the start up of the color wheel, the color wheel is confeirmed bad.

the lamp is simple; yet you can run into problems with this tv. be very careful replacing lamp. the plug in the tv can be damaged. (due to the design)

Its far more likely the result of the power pwb capacitors that have failed. As the 34 code will appear if the capacitors fail on the Power PWB. You can get the V26 DLP Power repair kit at the following link.with free instructions
