Question about Bose Wave Radio

Very loud hum on Boze radio

First of all, thank you to anyone at least looking at this problem and thinking about what might be wrong. When my Boze wave radio is on AM, there is no sound, when the radio is on FM, there is a very loud sound that drowns out any music. Lights work fine....just a very loud hum when on FM...and the Am won't work at all but has no hum. This is an older model. Thank you!

Actually the problem was caused by a bad 470uf cap, that was used to filter the powersupply for all the analog amps. Replaced the cap the unit works like new.

depending on how long youve had the unit i mean only to remind you of the 30 days guarantee also i would look close all around the machine's face and sides to make sure that its not set in (output to another system mode.) or mabey you may have a mute button pressed by accident...other than that there are no user servicable parts on the Bose Wave system and it would have to be looked at by a certified tech. hope i could help..

SOURCE: How can I get the Bose Wave radio to work in Europe??

Yes. The tuner spacing option should do this. If it's a Wave Music System or a Wave Radio II, go into the 'setup menu' and look for 'tuner spacing'. -If it's older, you may want to call Bose for a solution.

I can tell you what to check if you know how to use an ohmmeter. But I warn you you could get shocked if you do not know what you are doing. The transformer has 3 windings, two are for DC voltages, and the other is 3V AC.Your meter can measure those using the AC scale. Next, check the voltage on the 3 terminal regulator IC. One leg will have 18V, the output will have 10V. Again please use CAUTION! Finally, the to-92 transistor Q1 is used as a 5V regulator. Check it (with power off and unplugged) for any shorts, especially base-emitter. If non of these ideas work, I would offer to buy your non working unit if you decide to get rid of it.

there is a short in the speaker wires somewhere inside, which is not as bad as it sounds since a qualified or experienced person can just take off the case and make sure there's no wires touching and get them out of each others way.

The other cause can be electrical cross interference in your homes wiring. I like to think it's the first thing... Hope it works out, awesome radio- have a nice day!

I am having the same problem. I tried to isolate it - unplugged the charger and the buzz got much better. So I'm thinking mine must have something to do with the transformer causing interference. But I haven't solved it yet.
