When you start the PC, there will be a logo or something on screen, and there will be a text like: "Press Del to enter setup, press F8 for boot menu." The keys can differ, but thats about what it says. Press the key to enterte boot menu, then set your CD or DVD-rom drive at the first place in the list. Quit the setup, insert the disk, and wait. There will be a text like: "Pres Eter to boot from CD." Press Enter, and the installation will begin. I hope this answers yor question, Yannick.

Operating system not found

Unfortunately, Acer PC's do not come with an Official Microsoft Install Disc, however, you should be able to reset the computer to its original factory setting(s), by pressing either F10 or F11 at the initial start-up of the computer, not the start-up screen of the operating system. If this does not work, even though it should as long as you have not altered the HDD internal disc drive to the point to were you would have removed this factory installed reset function. In the event that this setting is not found or available, one other option is to connect an external CD/DVD-ROM Drive to the computers USB port load a copy or an original Microsoft Install Disc into the CD/DVD-ROM Drive. Turn your PC on and at the initial start-up screen of the computer, not the operating system start-up, access the computers bios screen, or boot order screen and adjust the computers settings to boot initially from usb port/external hard drive/CD?DVD-ROM Drive. If your computer allows you to do such, you should be able to re-install the operating system, be it the same or a newer windows version or some other type. NOTE: If you have the know how, you can download free operating system online for free, and creat your own "boot-able" flash drive...

How to boot from an external cd rom on a dell optiplex sx260 because it does not have an option to boot from an external cd rom..

Maybe it's not installed into windows, or whatever system, with a "driver." That is a program you can get off the internet that tells your computer how to operate that device.

Once installed, a restart and going into bios setup, you should find it in boot priority under the boot tab. If installed it should be there and you set it to top priority and save with f10 and exit. It will reboot and look first in the cd rom for an operating system.

No your motherboard is doing just fine. you cannot install OS to your hard disk from another computer that don't have the same spects like yours, The program won't initialize properly, or like what you said it would freeze. The only way fro you to be able to install an OS to your computer is to buy an external usb cd/dvd. If you have one, then we can proceed, enter the bios setup by pressing the delete or f2 key. Then set your settings from boot option ( primary boot ) select or change it by pressing Pg Up or Pg Dn to boot from a usb cd/dvd rom press f10 to save your setting or select save and exit settings. Then press y and press enter. From there your system will automatically boot starting your OS installation setup. Have a nice day friend and i hope this would solve your problem.

How to instal in pc

Hi, you haven't said for what operating system, but for XP. First you will need to change your primary boot device to CD Rom, to do this boot into BIOS by pressing the F1 key during initial boot fase, save changes after boot device has been selected, insert windows CD into drive and reboot. Select boot from CD, which appears during initial boot fase. Allow files to be installed, once finished you will need to delete operating system and repartition hard drive, then format hard drive. Once this completes PC will reboot, ignor boot from CD and allow PC to boot normally and it will start to install XP.

I get an error 00 ide something than the screen changes to trap 0000000d general protection fault

Hi johnnygriff5
The boot loader files are either corrupted or missing. To repair this problem, boot with the Windows XP CD-ROM and choose the option to install. On the next screen, choose repair to repair your Windows installation. When the repair process is finished, you will be able to boot back into your operating system without losing data or having to reinstall software.
If however this doesnot work then, please perform the following steps:
1. Insert the Window XP installation CD-ROM in the CD drive and boot your PC from the CD-ROM. 2. When the Welcome to Setup screen is displayed, press R to open Recovery Console. 3. Next, press the number key that corresponds to the operating system installation you want to repair. (This is required only when you have multiple operating systems on your PC.) 4. Login using a user with administrative privileges to your system. 5. Next, on the Recovery Console screen type the following commands ie chkdsk then fixmbr and press Enter after each command to execute them.
If you have some more questions, please let me know. Otherwise, please leave positive rating and feedback. Thanks :)

Dell dimension 5100 original partitions have been wiped .. Now need to reinstall xp . I can not. Selected boot device not available. can not do ctrl-f11 anymore of course btw just in case you were thinking...

If you are getting message the message "selected boot device not available" that is because you have do not have a bootable HDD (Hard Disk). Please do the following:

Insert the Windows XP Operating system Disk.
Restart the computer and start Tapping the F12 key, It will give you the boot options.
Select to boot from CD/DVD-Rom
When prompted press any key to boot from CD-Rom
Once the computer is booted from CD, follow the instructions to install the Operating system.
Note: You can also go to BIOS (by pressing F2 or Delete) and change the boot device to CD-ROM

Once you finish installing the Windows Operating system. You can go ahead with installation of your Linux Operating system. After you finish Installing Linux you will get the option in GRUB to select the Operating systems.

If you have already installed Linux and want to install the Windows, Follow the same procedure but it will directly boot Windows after you finish Installing Windows. You will have to write the GRUB again for your Linux system.

Please get back for any further assistance.

If you find this solution helpful, Please do not forget to rate it.

Thank you for choosing Fixya.

I found a laptop and its mark is gateway but i want to know how to reprogram it because i don´t know the password to it i want to know how i can reprogram it

If it is a newer laptop you should report it. The newer systems have a LOJAK style program in the bios that allows the owner to track its whereabouts regardless wether or not the system has been reprogramed. But as far as doing the programing goes you just need a retail version of windows (what ever distro you like) and change your boot settings in the bios to "boot from CD" or make cd rom your first boot device - it varies depending on the brand of bios and its version) then you stick your operating system in the cd rom drive and turn your system back on. when it asks to BOOT FROM CD: just hit enter and off you go. It will ask self explained questions during the install but Im sure you will be able to manage

How to install a new operating system on my hp laptop

In almost all instances a new operating system will be installed from a CD or DVD.
1. Start your computer and enter BIOS to make sure CD/DVD is your first bootable device. 2. Have your CD/DVD in the CD/DVD drive and boot the computer 3. Boot the computer and generally you will be prompted to hit any key to boot from CD 4. A guided setup process will walk you through the installation of your given operating system

You can repair that by booting your system using the CD ROM and the select to repair windows.

If ever this will not solve then;

In installing operating system you need the following:
