Question about Dishwashers

GE Potscrubber 650 does not drain and top rack not washed

I have 2 new issues that have happened back to back in the last few weeks. First the top rack was not being cleaned at all. Glasses and cups looked caked with residue from the soap or just the dirt. Now a new problem is more pronounced and that is the water in the tub is not draining. I checked my garbage disposer and it does not have any clog on it. I started a few rinse only cycles but the same 2 problems persist. Matter of fact the water level appears to be much higher than before.

I took out the plastic food catcher at the base of the tub. It had a layer of food residue caked on the upper surface as it sits in the tub. You can't poke that stuff away. Only option is to remove the two nuts holding this basket down. Clean it out thorougly and place it back on. This fixed my problem! I was worried about the unit still connected to the power though while I was doing the unscrewing of the two nuts but thankfully nothing happened.

My dishwasher doesn't clean the all the dishes, esp on top rack

Check the jet holes on the sprayer arms. The outside holes usually plug first from calcification and centrifugal force causing only the center areas to clean. Remove these arms and shake out all of the "little white rocks" and then run the machine empty with a de-calcifying cleaner.

I have a whirlpool diswasher. The dishes in the top rack do not come clean. Also I can see gritty sandy matter on the glasses and inside of the diswasher walls. I use the r inse agent.

Rise Aid is good to use however it sounds like you have another issue. Here are a few steps you can take to get your Dishwasher working:
  1. Check to see if your getting water to the top rack. Test this by runing a cycle and open the door and place a cup right-side up. Close the door. It should fill the cup up to the top with in 20 seconds. If it does you have to clean out your dishwasher with a cleaner like Dishwasher Magic.
  2. If the cup doesn't fill to the top then you have a circulation problem. Either your not getting enough water Or the filter in the pump is clogged. Water should cover the bottom of the dishwasher tub and then just reach the float.
  3. If your going to clean the filter/chopper you need to take out the racks and tube and sprays. And then take the screws out of the top. You have one screw for the filter/chopper housing take this off and clean it. Pull the blade forward and up. Do the reverse to install it should just stamp back on the bearing.
Good Luck. Please take a minute to rate your experience.
Have a great day!

I bought this dishwasher 2 weeks ago. The dishes are not always clean, the glasses on the top rack have a residue that gets dried on (white/gritty) and the glasses have a white film on them. I have...

If you have hard water, glasses can look spotted and cloudy even after cleaning. Sometimes changing the dishwasher detergent can help. The easiest solution to clearing up glasses that start to look cloudy is toadd some vinegar to the bottom of the dishwasher before you start a cycle. Simply add 1 cup of white vinegar and it will clear up your glasses very well.
You should see marked improvement after the first time you do this. If they are not crystal clear then simply repeat the process until all of the cloudiness is gone. In fact I recommend to using a little vinegar in each cycle to maintain the clarity of the glass.

Note: you can pre-test this by rubbing some vinegar on an individual glass with a cloth. If you cannot remove the cloudiness by soaking it and rubbing vinegar on it then it is possible that the glass is etched due to harsh or cheap dishwasher detergent and vinegar will not solve the problem.

The best way to clean it out is to run a empty load with a coffee cup full of vinager on the top rack, you might need to do this a few times to get all the gunk out. As fas as the drying goes check you heating element at the bottom of the tank and look for breaks.

After some experience with our own fdw60 with the same problem, we now put all pots and pans on the top rack. Putting them on the bottm appears to stop the clean water rinse reaching the top rack. All washes since have been ok.

Top rack not cleaning and spray arm possibly not moving

Hello--our Kenmore Elite has been showing exactly the same symptoms.  Since it's under warranty I had a technician take a look at it, in fact he just finished putting it back together: problem was accumulated food and junk around the inlet filter to the pipe that leads to the upper racks.  You can only get to this area by removing the lower spray arm, filter assembly, etc. until you are looking at the sump/chopper area.  Any clogging should be self evident at that point.
This would be an easy repair for anyone with a few tools and the willingness to get into it.  Seems to be working very well.  We will be rinsing more thoroughly in the future...
