I have a message to release the scanner lock switch on my MP970 but I'm not sure where that switch is. Thanks for your help.

Hi

The scanner lock is in the bottom of the scanner assy. in the plastic body.

But normally the lock is not active unless the printer is new. You can check and make sure the motor of the scanner unit is working well. If not try to remove scanner glass and clean it a little and this should work.

Regards

I cannot use scanner Lide 25.. because show error : "release the lock switch, detach the I/F cable and reconnect" How solution?

Sounds like the scan head is locked. This is usually done so you can transport the scanner without bouncing the scan head out of alignment. Look under the scanner and you will see it. Make sure it's in the UNLOCKED position. You may need to power the unit off/on to reset it or restart your computer to get a fresh attempt at the scanner.

The light is flashing that the scanner lock is on but it isn't??

I have had this one before and it turned out that the scanner rail itself was a little dry! A few drops of oil took care of it. MAke sure that the lock is off for certain (it's located under the scanner section/top) because it's very EASY to lock the scanner on this model when you reach under to remove your copies. I just usually completely REMOVE the stupid thing because it's only for transporting the unit... and it causes more problems than it solves!

I continue to get the message Scanner cannot be initialized. I have already removed and reinstalled the program and still get the same message.

It's a problem with the scanner hardware. Make sure the lock on the scanner isn't set. Some models come with a locking switch under the scanner or at the border of the scanning plate towards the back of the machine.
If the scanner is unlocked or it doesn't have a lock switch, then is a unrecoverable hardware failure. You should replace the scanner or get it repaired.

Samsung CLX 3170 scanner locked

Many scanners contain a scanning head lock to keep the scanning head from moving during shipping. This may still be still be in the lock position. All scanners are different but check the documentation on how to remove the head lock.

Error code

The L3 code refers to your scanner not moving. One thing you can check is the scanner lock, which is a clear round dial located under the scanner bed (where you remove your copies from).
I've seen that dial get bumped into lock position when copies are removed from the recieving tray. Alot of times, I'll remove the dial to avoid that problem in the future.

Scanner Locked Error

Scanner Lock -- a possible quicker fix

Instead of removing the entire glass plate, just remove the narrow glass strip to the far left. To do this, open the scanner top revealing the glass, and remove the philips screw centered on the left edge. With a thin flat-head screwdriver or even a good set of fingernails, you can then pry out the thin U-shaped plastic piece holding the glass strip in place.

When you remove the glass strip, you now have (narrow but sufficient) access to the scanner pulley and belt. Pull the spring-loaded pulley back towards your right to get some slack on the belt, then remove the belt from the pulley.

This frees up the scanner head, which you can now slide manually (by pulling gently on one end of the belt and giving slack on the other) to a center position well away from the scanner lock. When I first tried, I didn't move the scanner head far enough -- to the middle or beyond seems sufficient.

Push the scan lock to the full lock and then the full unlock position, to make sure it is now free.

Using fingers, screwdriver, and/or pliers, re-seat the belt on the pulley, once again using the freedom to move the spring-loaded pulley a bit to the right.

Replace the glass strip, plastic cover, and screw.

Power on the scanner. The error message should now be gone, and the scanner head should slide back to its resting position on startup (unless something is caught underneath, which was apparently the case for some who had this problem but was not the case for me). If the first power cycle doesn't do the trick, another power cycle might be helpful.

This approach eliminates the need to remove the scanner lid, control panel, and scanner glass.

Scanner not working

Hi, there are a couple of things you may want to try. Some of these if not done right might make you loose access to your scanner, proceed at your own risk. 1) really lock your scanner before booting to windows, then proceed to scan, then it will tell you that is locked, follow directions, remove, unlock, plug back, proceed to scan; or 2)use a different USB port (front and back/side); or 3) download and use (preferably new) drivers @ http://alpha02u.c-wss.com/inc/ApplServlet?SV=WWUCA900 or use the CD installer that came with the product. Uninstall your scanner: right click My Computer, Properties, Hardware, Device Manager, look for your scanner, right click, uninstall. or Start, control panel, add/remove programs, remove your scanner programs. You have to reinstall them all again (better with new drivers). Hope this work for you and good luck.
