Question about Apple iPhone Smartphone
Okay, here's my problem. Earlier today, I was trying to check a missed call on my iPhone, and I tried to click the phone button, and the iPhone wouldn't let me click on anything, so I try to shut it off, and it acts like it's about to shut off (With that circle thing that lights up, like it's loading...the sign that tells you the iPhone is about to shut off.) and the iPhone has been like that for about an hour now, and won't shut off.
Can someone help me?
From the apple.com website - the 2nd one worked for me:
If iPhone won't turn on, or the display freezes or doesn't respond

I had a similar problem. The iPhone went to a black screen and buttons wouldn't work at all, not even the shut down button. I pressed the shut down button together with the main function button (the one in the front) and it turned off. Afterwards, it turned on properly.

I had a similar problem, that is, the iPhone came up with that little circle thingy, and I figured out how to turn it off while this was happening (it was pretty scary since it was just out of the box!).
If it happens again, Hold down the home button and the sleep button at the same time and it should turn off.
Have a good one!

Reset the phone by holding down the top button and the circle button for 10 seconds. It should start up normally from there.

I had a similar problem with my iPhone seizing up- wouldn't go back to main screen or recognize that it was plugged in to charge- and when I tried to reset it by pushing both buttons simultaneously it just took a photo of the screen. Just before I called Apple Care I took out my SIM card out of phone and then put it back in. The screen unlocked temporarily and the next time I tried to reset- as prompted by Apple Care- it reset. It did take longer than the estimated 30 seconds to get back to the standby screen- more like 1.5 minutes. Now all seems to be fine.

My Iphone 3g locked up today in the "phone" menu, and no matter what I did, I couldn't turn it off or reset it. The solution: I connected it to my computer, took a backup via iTunes (ticked all the right boxes in iTunes under the iPhone icon, also took extra backup of contacts into outlook), and clicked "restore" on the summary tab. The phone then reset itself to factory settings, started up normally, and then continued to restore almost everything I had on the phone, including address book, full txt msg history, photos, bluetooth pairings etc. It even manage to restore data in some of the downloaded apps from iTunes store (such as all voice recordings in AudioMemo). The only thing I have found so far that it didn't restore, understandably, was my music, which was no problems since I only downloaded it again from my iTunes. I am really amazed at how well it worked.

u may have already fixed this by now, but mine was doing the exact same thing, until i plugged it into itunes and upgraded the software, it took about 20mins to do but eventually it worked and all has been fine since. Since then I have gone into setttings and there was an option saying when home button is pushed twice take me to the favourites list or something, so i have disabled that.

It's usually an issue with the logic board, so ultimately if you want to resolve it, the logic board needs to be replaced. Try to restore the iphone to exclude that it's a software issue, but if that doesn't work and If you're under warranty apple will likely give you a new one. If you're out of warranty you can attempt a self-repair if you're comfortable with opening devices like that, There are iPhone Repair guides that show you how at http://www.portatronics.com/guide. It's kind of a minor issue to take the risk of breaking things further though.

Just force restart your iphone. try to power of iphone and power on. this is normal thing occure when some app not working properly. If you want to restore your iphone without deleting data then here is the way.
Ipad iphone restore without losing data . But in your case i dont think you need to restore your iphone it just force restartyour iphone and it start working normally.

I have never beeen able to turn off my iphone....EVER. It's been on for 1-1/2 years. Can not manually shut it off. The only way it powers down is when the battery dies. That's it. Tried everything...i think. Hence, in order to jailbreak it, you must be powered off and rebooted from the off position. This sucks because I can't do that and I want to jailbreak it!! Here's a solution worked for me!!! Press Home button for 2 seconds first and then while holding it press power button along with it too. After 3 seconds it will turn off... :)

Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.

SOURCE: iphone froze
hold down the power button and home button for roughly 10 seconds sometimes it can take anything up to a 1minute. This almost always works. My froze and i tried this, worked first time.
When your screen goes off from holding them down. Plug you iphone into itunes and it will load and your all set.

Please take a look at Apple's Support Page, try all of these, if required.

SOURCE: MY iphone won't shut off
Probably the flex cable that connects the button to the mother board is damaged. This part is cheap and easy to install.
You can find the replacement parts here:

Most likely you destroyed your #1 connector that goes from the LCD to the logicboard. A $25 investment for a new LCD will solve the problem!
