Make sure the number is active with Magic jack and tell your next phone service provider that you want to port your old number. There may be a small fee for this service and it could take more than a day to port the number.
When you first register your Device or download the magicApp, as part of the available features, you may elect to choose a unique phone number. YMax is the provider of your phone number and/or inbound calls. An annual fee may apply. The phone number chosen will be allocated provided YMax determines that it is legally permissible. If you are eligible for a phone number, it will be allocated to you as soon as reasonably possible after YMax has received your request. YMax may use customized ringtones or ring back when completing your calls, including supplying various messages of different lengths. YMax does not guarantee that a requested phone number can be allocated to you or that you can make use of the incoming call feature. The allocation of a phone number to you does not constitute any transfer of title, ownership, license or other rights with regard to the phone number. If you transfer or port out your Service phone number, your Service is terminated and you relinquish all claims for a refund of your initial licensing period as well as any renewal licensing purchased. YMax may, without any liability, refuse, change or terminate any phone number at any time. If YMax changes the phone number that has been allocated to you, YMax will notify you, stating the effective date of the change and your new phone number. If you do not wish to accept this new phone number, you are entitled to cancel this Agreement; however, you will not be eligible for any refund unless you terminate the Agreement within 30 days after purchase of your Device and qualify for a refund as further described in Section 2 of this Agreement. We will not be liable for any damages resulting from the change of the phone number.
The MagicJack service allows customers to place and receive phone calls through a computer instead of a traditional phone line. Unlike a landline, MagicJack allows people to select a state and area code for their personal number. Users can also customize a vanity number to make their contact information more memorable. If a customer moves to a new city or would like a different vanity number, he can quickly make this change from the MagicJack website.
Access your MagicJack online account (see link in the Resources section). Enter the phone number and password associated with the account, and press "Login."
Select the "Phone Numbers" menu tab. Click the option labelled "View - Renew - Add." Choose "Add a Phone Number."
Choose one of the listed options for the new number. Select "Vanity Number" if you wish to customize your phone number. Standard U.S. and Canadian number options are also available.
Check the box marked "I elect to accept free outgoing service." This allows free outgoing calls to phones in the United States. MagicJack must ask this question for legal purposes. If you leave the box unchecked, the MagicJack service will only accept incoming calls.
Confirm that you wish to change the MagicJack number. Click "I understand and would like to change my number." Select a state, area code and city for the new number.
Press the "I Want to Choose..." button to set the last four digits of the number, or click "No Thanks. I want the last four digits assigned automatically" to receive a random number.
Click the "Checkout" button. Fill out the requested payment information to complete the transaction. As of September 2012, the standard fee to change a MagicJack number is $10. Vanity numbers may require an additional fee.
To renew your Magic Jack telephone service, all you should have to do is call Magic Jack, (I'm sure they provide an 800 number), where you can phone in your payment. They also provide a system to automatically withdraw the money out of your bank account.
First is your internet connection working Ok? If so then unplug and remove any software from your machine. Next plug it back in. It should act as a new install. Lucky you upgrade then should come up. If not go to http://mjcheck.low.li/ and download the firmware. It will have to restart but should work after that. If not repost. good luck.
You should be able to get a MagicJack number with the 925 area code. http://www.magicjack.com/action/areacodes?inpArea=&selCountry=USA&inpCountry=USA&selState=CA lists several Walnut Creek exchanges. These numbers probably weren't available when you initially signed up. Log into your MagicJack account at http://my.magicjack.com/ . Then click on the Phone Numbers tab then choose Add a Number. Select the U.S. Number option and then choose the 925 area code and the city prefix. You will have to pay a new phone number fee but you will be able to link this number to your MagicJack account soon after activation is complete.
Please be absolutely sure its not an installation issue before using the the following suggestions. Magic Jacks are a little tempermental, often an uninstall/re-install is the real Magic. Remember to turn your volume up before clicking. Here's the You Tube Video.
Magic Jack offers only one, free, Area Code/Phone Number change. If yours is an issue which requires keeping your area code local to those who call you, click the following: Area Code look-up and use your State (not the area code), to find many area codes that is considered local to the people who call you. I found that 612 should be local to 320.
It only matters that you use the 320 code, to the people calling you; if they only have basic service and they cannot call you unless you are local, to them? Simply use the area code look-up website to find other area codes that are also local to 320, that are acceptable to you. There is a "contact us" link on that page, if you cannot find a local code using the web site.
Here is the Magic Jack Support phone number, if you cannot use the Magic Jack, you obviously can't use it to contact them by clicking the link above; this is The Chat Web Site. They can connect you, to your jack from their end, they can change your number for you and if your number is still available in a different area code they can transfer your number from (EXAMPLE: 320-789-4321 to 612-789-4321 if it is available) there may be an additional fee for that. Explain your situation and that it did work, but stopped working, since it isn't your fault, you could ask to change your number at no charge (it never hurts to ask, they could only say no and you would have had to pay to keep the number anyway ;-)
