My SPT humidifier works but only when the mist setting is at maximum, looking for any advice/suggestion/help ....
Out of warranty, looking to attempt to fix it myself, the problem now is wet floor whenever unit is on for some time
already tried soaking base unit with vinegar. Also clean as much as I could without disassembling unit.

If this unit is an ultrasonic mist device, the mist element could be defective. They should be quiet, but still purr along and provide ma mist. The best bet it to contact the manufacturer and if under warranty, replace the system.
In the bottom of the humidifier is a little disk that vibrates to turn water to vapor. This gets covered in mineral deposits and won't vibrate properly. They usually suggest something like vinegar to clean it. I found that this didn't work for me. What did work was cleaning it with my Waterpic on the highest setting. It chipped away the deposits and allowed it to work. HOWEVER, once you get it running again, buy the slant fin mineral absorption pads to keep it running. If you have mineral-rich water like me, you'll go through them quickly, but you also won't have white deposits on your walls anymore.
i would try cleaning the coils for the heat portion. if they are to scally that could be one reason why it's not making any mist. but if it looks pretty clean or if you have cleaned it and it's still not making any mist then it's something internal. now if your under warranty still that's a good thing. you can always call the manufacturer and they can replace theunit for you under warranty . if you have any other questions please let me know.
this is a steam and misting type humidifier, the water tanks will not heat up, the heating element is internal to the unit, just make sure you clean it periodically and I would suggest having a fan asst to help move the humidification around the room, hope that helps

Did you no good, i suggest you take the Humidifier to be serviced, or back to the shop if you're still under warranty. I dont think there's any more to do without professional equipment and knowledge.
But if you can, do try to follow his suggestions.
