Question about Refrigerators

Jenn-Air JFC2089HES (French Door) Fridge not cooling enough

The freezer is cold but the fridge is warm.
I took the panel off from inside the freezer, a bit of frost even on the grid.  Unplugged and cleaned up the frost.  Retested - same problem.
Reopened up the panel after 6 hours and same amount of frost on the grid, rechecked all plugs in there and they look fine.
Fans are working, and vent valve in fridge is opening up to allow flow, cool air is entering the fridge (seems enough to cool it down but it's not working).  Lights are going off.
Unit is two years old.
Hmmmmm.  Anyone have any tips?

I have the same problem...did this every get fixed?

  • Anonymous Jun 10, 2008

Our fridg. has never worked since we bought it in 2005.  Same type of problems from the freezer being too cold to the fridg. and freezer barely working at all and food being ruined.  We've done the same as you have but it still gets like this every few months.  We would love to chuck it, but only 3 yrs. old.  Our 30 yr. old fridg. we got rid of worked so much better.

We have the same problem. We cleaned out dust around the bottom of the refrigerator and that seemed to work for about 2 weeks then it got warm again. The door frames around the refrigerator are really warm to the touch also. Somebody help!!

The refrigerator portion is fed cold air from freezer section to cool it. Check for the freezer fan and/or the damper mechanism that directs air into fridge compartment for proper operation.

Model # MFF2557HES Top refrigator section stoped cooling freezer is working

You may have Ice buildup in the freezer. You freezer has a fan in the bak that sends the cool air to the fridge. Your fridge dial determines how muh cold air comes from the freezer. Try defrosting the freezer. You may have to pull the back panel off of the inside of the freezer to get the ice thawed. The ice build up is likely causing the air to not get to the fridge. Hope it works.

Jenn-Air JFC2089H Bottom Freezer French Door Refrigerator. One month ago the water tap stopped working then I noticied that the top doors to refrigerator would not reliably close like they used to. Last...

The water could have been frozen in the door and melted when your fridge warmed up.

The lower hinge on each door may have a door closing cam. It raises the door up ¼ inch when opening and this assist in closing the door. If it’s wore out and doesn’t work the door may not seal and the gasket can be damaged. Watch the operation of the door to see if it rises up when opened.

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp ..

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

Problem seems to be solved. I unplugged it for a short time and plugged it back in. I'm guessing it needed to be re-set.

Refrigerator stopped working, freezer works fine

Sounds like the evap fan is not running. The fan takes cold air from the freezer to cool the refer compartment. If the freezer is cold the compressor is running. Generally the freezer will stay cold since the cooling coils are there but it must have the fan working to get the air up to the refer area. Pull everything out the freezer and take the back panel off to view the coils and fan, etc. It's a simple easy job to change the fan. If you find the coils are a total block of ice then it's another problem... the defrost cycle isn't working. Sooo... see if the fan is running in the freezer compartment first. See http://www.partselect.com/Schematics/Maytag/AA43-57.gif for fan location, item 18 is the fan motor. Let us know what you find out.
