SOURCE: I want to know how make flywheel ring gear, and how

BY using an oxy torch you heat up the ring gear....doing this expands it so that it fits over the flywheel center plate......you do the same to remove....heat the ring gear around in the circle, gradually, no rush...make sure it is even heat all the way around

SOURCE: 1987 wrangler, stright six manual. The starter

In some Jeeps the nose bushings of the starter may go bad and in turn damage the flywheel which may have happened the first time on your unit. Once you have the starter removed you should see any physical damage. You may have to have some shims installed to decrease or compensate the starter system. There are cases where after the replace has been made the noise still exist. There could be damages to other parts which you may have to inspect further.

Was told that the trans or engine would need to come out to replace the flywheel in my 98 continental.? Is that correct? Saw another suggestion from Colin Strickland here on fixya. See added details.

flywheel teeth get damaged in 3 places for 6 cyl or 4 for v8 If the teeth are damaged then the fix is a replacement ring gear
now if the car is automatic it will not have a flywheel as the torque convertor does that job
there is a flex plate bolted instead to the crank shaft and inturn bolted to the torque converter
They are kown to develope faults and crack off at the crank shaft so that they become warped ( not allowing full pinion engagement) or dreak off altogether and not turn the crank at all
The thrust bearings on the crank generally do not fail as they run in oil all the time so disregard that suggestion( if the thrust bearing was to fall ot completely , the added movement is 1/8 " and the pinion would still engage a good ring gear)
Now the teeth have to be replaced so for an automatic it is a new flex plate ( box out )
for a manual it is flywheel off and a new ring gear fitted to the flywheel ( box out )
check the pitch of the teeth of the new starter
the movement of the pinion can be checked by an accredited auto electrician and adjusted by the encentric pivot pin in the solenoid fork
So what ever happens the box has to come out for the repair

I bought a new 22re crate motor because the other one was blown, hole in side of block.went to marry engine to transmission and I know for sure that the torque converter is seated all the way.so my...

never knew that a torque bolted to a flywheel, it is always bolted to a flex plate that drives the torque converter and carries the ring gear for the starter
there are washers that fit either of that flex plate or on some engines only on the converter side with the bevelled edge facing away from the plate
the torque converter is bolted to the flex plate by 3 or 4 bolts facing back to the converter from the block end
why are flywheels not used with torque converters
the mass of the flywheel affects the engine acceleration and the torque converter full of oil takes over that job so the engine acceleration would be considerable slower if both were used

1995 Buick road master I put a flywheel in now it's cutting my started keep putting new starters in is engine my no good

You keep replacing the starter motors?
The starter motor may be fitted incorrectly and isn't meshing with the ring gear properly.

It may be that ring gear - the teeth - on the flywheel are worn/damaged or even the wrong fit for the starter motor.

Another alternative is that the flywheel isn't torqued up correctly and consequently it - and the ring gear teeth - are out of line. However, I would have thought that an out of balance flywheel would also cause vibration problems. Your car runs okay?

Not starting

the ring gear on the fly wheel may have damaged teeth or not have the right gear teeth count to be compatible . Pinion teeth have to match the ring gear teeth or they have trouble meshing and that makes it hard to turn over. If the ring gear teeth have been damaged then the gear box will have to come out to get the fly wheel / flex plate off. If it is auto then it is a simple matter of replacing the flex plate . But if manual the ring gear is removed from the flywheel and a new one fitted. Most accredited service shops can do this operation. count the number of teeth on the ring gear and the number on the starter pinion and take the figures to an auto electrician and he will know it they are right.

My 2004 mazda rx8 got flooded and was trying to un flooded noticed that the motor wasnt turning , starter was spining but ring gear got lose from fly wheel

If the ring gear is not fixed to the flywheel then the flywheel need to be removed from the engine then heat up the ring gear to place onto the flywheel to shrink fit it back onto the flywheel.
If the ring gear/fly wheel is damaged or the flywheel face is scored then it maybe better to get a replacement (new or 2nd hand).

Can u turn flywheel manually on a 70hp Yamaha outboard

Use a wrench on the flywheel as burrs from the ring gear will hurt. If you mean will they start that way, Yes.

Lots of those were on pango fishing boats in Mexico "in the day" and all were pull start. from the factory.

When pushing the electric start button, the starter spins but does not engage to turn the motor

Starter motor spins, but does not engage
  1. Check the starter motor for a seized or binding pinion gear.
  2. Remove the flywheel inspection plate and check for a damaged ring gear.

How can i convert the rope pulled generator into automatic start generator...

Yes you can install an electric starter on your generator if the following conditions are present. Starter/fan cover has cutout for starter, the flywheel has ring gear and block has taped holes to mount starter. Examine the engine where the starter would normally be installed (look at a generator like yours with the same motor that has the starter installed ) and check that the mounting holes are there and threaded to receive the bolts. If threaded holes to mount are there and access thru starter cover to flywheel is there, check that the flywheel has a ring gear where starter motor engages. If all present starter can be installed however you will not have the charging coil which is normally under the flywheel to charge battery; but you can still use the generator to charge the battery. To locate parts, use model number of the engine not the generator. Good Luck

Ring gear on flywheel

Hello
The most part of the Tecumseh engines are prepared from factory to install electric start .
Just remove the cover on the side of the motor and if you have the ring gear allready installed on the flywheel you just simply have to install the electric start . Make sure the gears on the electric start will match the ring gear .
Hope this help
