Door Switches Are failing on refrigerators pretty often. On drawer system freezer it should be somewhere on the side of the back wall. Check on that.

Hi, I had exactly the same problem and eventually realised that the panel at the back of the freezer was coming loose. When I removed it I found that all the parts behind the panel were covered in ice, a lot of ice! So I have defrosted this ice using bowls of steaming water (not sure if this is an appropriate way to defrost, but it worked fine for me), I have also read you can use a hair dryer to spead up the process - apparently if you try and chip the ice off it can damage the parts in your freezer. I have now fixed the panel back on the freezer and it is working like new and I have had this fridge freezer for years now.

I have a 4 draw Plano Tackle box as I have something stuck behind I can't close bottom draw, can you tell me how to remove draw as I've tried and cannot remove regards Sno

Use a long flat blade screw driver with a 1/4 inch blade. From either the right or left side, with the top drawer fully open, take the screw driver and place the blade between the inside of the outer casing and the drawer guide and gently pry the casing away from the drawer guide and pull the drawer open until you release the side catch on the drawer. You only need to free one side, and the drawer will sort of pivot out and the other side will be free at that point as well. Repeat for the rest of the drawers except for the bottom drawer which you will be able to access anything behind it as the upper drawers will not longer be blocking access when removed. I had a small bag of sinkers sitting on the bottom.

Look at the drawing part #6 is the defrost timer.
Directly below that is a hole about the size of a dime its an access to a part of the timer you can turn with a flat tip screwdriver. There is a small removable cover there so here is what to do.

Open the fridge door and look up at the bottom of the control panel.

Remove the cover if it is there.

Slowly turn the timer you will hear it click until your unit comes on you will be able to see which way it turns as it is designed in a manner that a flat tip will only turn it one way.

That should get it going for a bit you will need a new timer.

Thanks for asking.

Help me with me frige not cooling bottom GE unit.

When you close the freezer door, does the fan turn off? There isn't any thing else on my bottom mount beside the damper that regulates airflow to the refrigerator box.

You should be able to drop a string from the damper opening at the back of the refrigerator down to the duct to the freezer. If you can't there is some obstruction in that duct. I suppose it is possible there is some other mechanism in that duct on your particular model, but I can't understand what its purpose would be.

The picture below shows the vents at the back bottom of the refrigerator box that return air to the evaporator in the freezer box to be re-cooled. If these are blocked, the fan can't draw air in to be blown back up to the refrigerator, unless of course the freezer door is open. 7e3c57e.jpg

Is there ice build up in the freezer? Ours does this we have to remove the bottom & above draw & bang the back plate until the ice built up behind it breaks off & falls down onto a tea towel & then you hear the fan start whirring again, it sounds brutal so wrap your hand in a spare tea towel, but bash away till the ice comes out & fan whir's again, as this fan circulates the cold air into maintaining fridge temperature ?? That's the only way ours then chills fridge again, so much for frost free fridge freezers eh! ??

HOTPOINT FFA70 FRIDGE FREEZER

I had this problem and it was fixed relatively easily. Get everything out of your fridge freezer and switch it off overnight to allow it to defrost.

In the bottom freezer compartment there is a panel behind the draws which you can remove but you will need a special tool from a DIY shop. Its like an allen key, but with a star shaped end.

When I got the panel off I found that the filament was covered thick with ice even though it had been off for hours. No wonder it wasn't working properly. I melted this with a hairdryer. You want to take your time with this as you could easily damage the freezer if you try chipping the ice out.

Freezer works perfectly now and is very quiet.

Ice in Refrigerator Section

there are 2 possibilities. first the drain is blocked causing water to overflow from the defrost water gulley at the bottom rear of the inside of the fridge. this can form ice as it is close to the division between fridge and freezer. second, the .fault of ice growth can be caused by breakdown of the cabinet insulation. of the two, the first is the moree likely. to test drain is cloear, pour a little water down the drain. if it does'nt flow freely, push something flexible down the drain hole till blockage is clear
