The CR setting on a Brother carriage is intended to free it from a jam. This is almost always effective.

SOURCE: The cartridge carriage has stalled

If you can remove the dust from the paper lifting area with the help of petrol or ip (all the gararis) and reinstall that portion, change the encoder (which goes from the carriage) and clear the round encolder with the help of wet cotton. Greecing the cartridge park area and then check it. If you find any problem then contact me at manglamenterprises@hotmail.com

SOURCE: printer carriage stall/stuck

  1. follow the steps below
  2. Reconnect the power cord to the back of the product.
  3. Press the Power button ( ) to turn on the product.
  4. Open the carriage access door. The carriage might try to move into the access area. If so, allow it to move to that position
  • With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the product.
  • Unplug the power cord from the power source or electrical outlet.
  • Check for any paper or objects that might be stopping the carriage. CAUTION: If the paper tears when you remove it from the rollers, check the rollers and wheels for torn pieces of paper that might remain inside the product. If pieces of paper remain in the product, more paper jams can occur.
  • Reach inside the product, and then manually move the carriage.
    • If the carriage is stuck on the right side of the product , move the carriage to the left side of the product.
    • If the carriage is stuck on the left side of the product , move the carriage to the right side of the product.
    • If the carriage is stuck in the middle of the product , move the carriage to the right side of the product.
  • Remove any loose paper or obstructions found.
  • Make sure that the carriage can move freely across the width of the product by gently pushing the carriage to the left and then to the right.
  • Close the carriage access door.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the product and to the power source.
  • Reconnect the USB cable to the product.
  • Load plain paper in the tray.

Ink carriage is stuck on right side how do I make it move to but new ink into the printer

Look in the left side of the printer, you'll see some wheels
Shut the printer down and pull the power cord
manually rotate the wheels until the little lever that block the carriage moves
When the carriage is unlocked, you are free to move the carriage.

    Cannot unlock the carriage

There is a little lever under the carriage on the left, used for locking the carriage when in transit.Move the lever in the opposite direction,if that does not work press the Capital Lock Key then try it.If this does not work,it will be your carriage return spring having lost its tension. This is the round drum(wheel ) on the back of the carriage connected by a cord.

Brother MFC-6490CW printer error unable to print 36

Any of the 30 series errors say that the carriage is not free to move from side to side across the paper. You need to look close on each side of the machine where the carriage travels to see if there's a paper scrap stopping it. Also the encoder strip could be out of the slot in the carriage assembly. If all is OK you need a shop repair to determine if the logic or carriage pcb's are OK.
