I have a Motorola dcx3400-m 500gb dvr and opened it up and found a little push button by the hard drive. I have looked everywhere on the net for and explanation of and found nothing. Can you please tell me what the button is for. It is not visible from the outside.

Hi Troy oviatt, I want to help you with your question, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box?
    2008 DVR, 11 years old,
did you read the manual first. ?
there is no other way, as all DVR are different, see?
the users manual 55 pages does not cover this button
so that be in the SERVICE manual.
could not find this manual ,so...
It may ERASE the HDD or is used to install a new HDD, pre formatting it, but that is a guess. my NVR have this, best is leave it alone if DVR works.

I couldn't find anything on this button. I searched for about 3 hours on line with no luck. Seems this button doesn't exist.

I figured it out. It is a reset button. I ran a continuity test between the button and the power cord and it interrupted the power signal.

SOURCE: GETAC W130 Remove Hard drive

Hope I'm not too late.

You can access the hard drive by removing the bottom panel.

You need to first remove the battery cover, battery spacer, and then the two screws in the battery compartment.

Then remove all the large screws on the bottom plate.

Don't remove the little ones that hold the rubber port flaps, just open each flap so it won't get hung up on them.

Then take a flatblade like a mechanics size and insert it in the slot at the top edge just inside from the corners. They will be at the handle end of the laptop.

What you do is stand the laptop up on end.

Insert the blade at an angle while holding the handle in the other hand.

Lift the screwdriver handle upwards so that the blade grips downwards and lifts the bottom off the laptop. The slots I mentioned are not so obvious, but think of them as access holes and the bottom plate is wedged into the case like a can of sardines. If you stick your driver in there you can pry it up at the top and then it will open up and still be attached at the back until you open it up a full 90 degrees.

It will be a little tight at first but once it moves it come off freely with a couple wires attached.

I can send you a photo if you can't find the two openings.

You can access the hard drive in the middle left area without removing the entire cover.

You just need to open it wide enough to pry up the connector from the hard drive where it plugs into the board.

These are supposedly 1.8" drives so most likely you'll need to find an adapter to be able to recover your files. Usually a ZIF to IDE and then use a USB 2.5" enclosure or you might be able to order a ZIF to USB enclosure. I can help you figure that out once you pull it out. I swear I counted 46 pins on the mainboard side. I'm stumped until I see what you pull out of there.

I'm interested in photos and info on the drive and connector since mine is missing and I was to find something that might work instead of paying full cost from the manufacturer.

I also need an AC adapter for this damn thing, but it sure looks cool!

As far as laptops, it's way too heavy but the most Bad *** case on the planet.

Makes me think of the bad guy in those action movies...it's like some kind of super detonator tracking monitoring bleeping minefield activating superslick laptop the hero must disarm or destroy!

TELL ME THE DISARMING CODES NOW!!!!

Need to recover data from DirecTV R15 DVR receiver hard drive

First, sorry for the delay in respoding to your post. I did notice that you had a prior question about the Power Supply on an R15 DVR. Does the unit have a manufacture code of 500(found on the right hand front Flip Door of the DVR)? If so, I might be able to help you in repairing the Power Supply. As far as I know, getting your DVR up and running again is the only way to watch your previously recorded programs. As far as retreiving programs from your old Hard Drive via other methods, I probably won't be able to help you there. When I had both of my identical DVR 15 500's apart for a parts swap to diagnos a failed Phototransistor(infra-red sensor for the remote control), I also tried to swap out the Hard Drives. This is what I found: When you swap a Hard Drive into another DVR, it won't play any of the programs previously recorded. However, if you record new programs on the swapped Hard Drive then they will be playable on this current setup. Now, if you swap the Hard Drive back to the original DVR it came out of, the programs will once again be accessible except for any that you might have recorded while the Hard Drive was in the other DVR. So, in conclusion, when programs are recorded on a particular DVR, it is encoded electronically to play back only in that DVR via communication from the Motherboard and the Hard Drive. I know, it sucks, but that is why I was asking if you are pretty sure the Power Supply is at fault. If so, I received info from this forum on how to fix the issue. Also, if the attempt fails, Ebay has some previously owned DVR's for sale and maybe you can get one for spare parts. Remember, the Power Board and Front Display Control Panel are the only interchangeable parts IF you want to view the programs on your DVR's Hard Drive. Let me know what your DVR does when you plug it in. That will go far in further diagnostics of your DVR.

I HAVE A MOTOROLA DCT3416 i THAT HAS BEEN UPDATED WITH ROVI PASSPORT 3.5 AND WILL NO LONGER POPULATE THE GUIDE, CHANGE CHANNELS WITH THE CHANNEL UP/DOWN BUTTONS OR FUNCTION AS A DVR, HOWEVER I CAN DIRECTLY...

WHY ARE YOU SCREAMING?

Nope, not the hard drive. you wouldn't be able to pause at all. Its your remote...
try simple things like checking to see if your in the right mode. (what lights up on your remote when you push buttons?)

IMO if you swap the box you will have the same problem. try a different remote... maybe one from another room.

good luck

ViP211-HD DVR button won't work.....can't record any channels.....also the 'record' button doesn't respond either......

Hello, my name is Matthew Gonzales with DISH Network. I'm sorry about any inconvenience, but the ViP211 is not a DVR receiver. If you have an external hard drive, you can activate the feature on the 211 to allow you to record movies to the external hard drive. It is a one time $40 to activate the external hard drive feature. Also, we can always look at getting a DVR receiver installed to replace the 211. If you have any other questions, feel free to email me at matthew.gonzales@dishnetwork.com.

Can i connect my motorola dch3416 dvr to my laptop and save programs that i recorded to my hard drive?

Hi,

Motorola DCH3416 has an USB port to connect to a PC. But you can't copy the files from DVR to laptop, they are encrypted and locked down, even if you opened the box and pulled out the drive you wouldn't be able to get a PC to recognize the format or copy the files off the drive.

(You can not connect data devices without contacting your service provider.
Because the Digital Rights Management (DRM) laws instituted by the entertainment industry prohibit the movement of copyrighted content from one system to another.)

Hope this helps

My pioneer dvdrw dvr 107d door wont open when i press button /have cd stuck inside (worked 5 mins ago) can still view dvd content/ will driver update fix ? please help

The drive may have come loose in your pc and is stopping the door to open.Hold open the front flap and press the eject button. If it wont eject your disk straighten out a paperclip and holding the front flap open look at the front of your drive and you will see a small hole.Push the paperclip through the hole and it will release the catch and eject your disk, You may have to push hard .Hope this helps you.

I want to hook up an external hard drive to increase the record time available for my Motorola DCH3416 cable box. I already have drives with eSata, USB, and firwire ports.

From the Motorola FAQs:

How do I transfer my programs from my Motorola DVR to an external device like a computer or hard drive? trnsp.gif Question How do I transfer my programs from my Motorola DVR to an external device like my computer or hard drive?
trnsp.gif Answer No. Currently you can't offload recorded content to any external device from a Motorola DVR, even though the data ports are there, the software doesn't support it yet. When the option becomes available through a software upgrade, it will be downloaded to DVR automatically by service providers/cable companies.
