Question about LG LFX25960ST Stainless Steel French Door Refrigerator

Ice maker stopped making ice

Was working fine yesterday, now no ice. Checked the on/off switch, made sure the ice bin was in properly, doors are closed, freezer temp is fine. Turned on ice plus, and still no ice. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi

When an ice maker is producing ice poorly--when it produces just a few cubes or none, or when the cubes are too small--it's usually because of a clogged water line or a defective water inlet valve.

First, check the water line attached to the back of the refrigerator for good water flow. To do that, first turn off the water supply valve. Then remove the water line from the back of the refrigerator. Next, place the water line into a bucket and momentarily turn the water valve back on to test the flow. If the flow is poor, you need to repair, clean, or replace the tubing or the shut-off valve that supplies the water. If the flow is good, you may have to replace the water inlet valve.

Please do rate the solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks

We have just brought a second hand amana side by side fridge and cant seem to work out how to get the ice machine working, can you help us?

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly. Amana has 2 tpes of ice maker.one if optical and one is not. To get ice production:
1. Freezer foor closed (Power though door switch)
2. Freezer temp 14 - 16 Deg F
3. Ice bin arm in ON position

Check the door switch to make sure that the light goes out when the door switch plunger is depressed. This does NOT ensure that the switch if in fact good but... it is a good start. The switch can still have falied in the closed potition. There are 3 terminals on the door switch C = power in NC and NO. The switch with the door open will read continuity C to NC and C to NO with the door closed. To get the switch out of the cabinet you use a thin knife blad to release the single locking tab on the side of the switch and lift it out.

Also make sure the condensor fan is running at full spped and that the chassis between the doors is not HOT to the touch. Listen to the evaporator fan.... make sure it too is running at full speed with the door switch plunger depressed.

It usually takes 6 - 8 hours for the freezer temp to stabilize and start ice production.
If after 6 to 8 hours ice production begins... the first batch of ice will be small.
If after 6 - 8 hours you still have no ice use this link to troubleshoot:
http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=12&newsdesk_id=34

You will need ONE jumper wire to perform the tests.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Ice maker will not make ice cubes, only crushed ice.

take out your ice bin the look in the back of the freezer and ytou will see a small hole with a plastic sqaure actuator.hold the door switch closed and make sure the unit is selected for cubed ice then try and dispence ice if the swaure plastic acuator moves up it is working fine it shoeld drop down when you release the dispencer arm.if it dropps back down then make sure that the metal bail arm is properly inserted into the hole in the auger case when that actuator moves up this opens the small plastic door on the ice bin to allow subed ice to come out.make sure there is no ice build up on the ice bin that would stop the trap door from opening.good luck with you fridge i hope this helps you out,let me know how thing s go for you.

The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

The ideal temp for the freezer is around 10 degrees F.
Look at the evaporator coils behind the rear cover inside the freezer and check the ice forming on the coils.

Ice dispenser auger does not work.

Hi, On GE refrigerators the motor is not quiet. Open your freezer, remove the ice bin, press the door switch, make sure it turns off the light, and then press the ice dispenser lever. The solenoid will click, which also opens the ice door and the auger motor will turn on and you can definitely hear it. If the motor runs then inspect the auger connection on the rear of the ice bin, its plastic and they break. On some models, like my GE Adora there is a switch just for the ice maker behind the ice bin. If you need more help let me know as with all long distance troubleshooting we try with the information we have. Thanks and Good Luck!

Freezer works fine but the fridge won't get cold

It sounds like cold air from the freezer isn't making it to the fridge compartment. This can be cause by a several things. The damper that lets air into the fresh food side is stuck in "closed" position, the temp sensor (t-stat) isn't working properly, the evaporator fan (in the freezer comp above the coils) isn't working to blow air up to the fresh food section. In some situations, the defrost cycle for the freezer section isn't working and the coils have frozen into a block of ice and air can't flow over them properly so you get not cold air to the fresh food section but the freezer still stays cold due to the block of ice.

Leak from icemaker shorts electricity in house

It sounds like the ice in the bin is warming up enough to melt for some reason then re-freeze. Check your door gasket seal and also the ice chute door flapper seal to make sure warm room air isn't being drawn into the ice bin area. Also make sure the freezer area is VERY cold like 0 degrees F or lower, that will keep the ice hard and help stop the ice from having a liquid surface film from opening and closing the freezer door too often (then freezing again). The water down the back is from the ice cubes melting a little then re-freezing. Also, is the frige working OK? Does the compressor turn on and off normally? I ask because sometimes the compress start device is failing and the refer can warm up quite a bit while the compressor is trying to start up... eventually the compressor will start but by then the ice has melted a little then the compressor runs for a long time to bring the temps down again. Monitoring with a thermometer every hour will show if the temps are lowering in the freezer section too much.
