Hi Lucille,
NO This model does not have a water filter. You will need to complete disconnect the ice maker and clean it out. Then remove and flush the fill tube. If ice still appear dirty, you may to replace the water valve, the water tube and the ice maker too. I will link the parts needed and see the repair video on how to access them. https://www.appliancepartspros.com/whirlpool-whirlpool-icemaker-kit-4317943-ap2984633.html

SOURCE: Particles in ice cubes

Most new water/ice systems have break-in procedures in the manual, including flush a couple gallons of water through the water dispenser and disposing the first 24hrs of ice.

Are the particles present in the filtered water before adding ice? If so, you can probably assume the contamination is from the water tank so you should flush several gallons of water through the system to get rid. If the particles are present after adding ice, try pulling out the ice bin and dumping the ice.

SOURCE: Ice cube dispenser not working

I had this problem. The root cause was that mineral deposits had built up in the ice cube tray. The ice would not "dump"... but stayed in the tray after the dump cycle. I did not catch it quickly and eventually the plastic frame broke. That was easily replaced. Inspect the ice tray to see that all cube surfaces are smooth. If there are mineral deposits, they need to be removed. Do NOT scrub with anything abraisive or you will ruin the tray. As you are looking straight on at the Ice maker, with the bin out, depress the small black retangular tab. The tray assembly will come apart to remove the tray. Rinse the tray, then fill with warm vinegar. Let it soak. You may scrub with soft cloth, finger or fingernail to remove deposits. Replace the tray and you should be in business.

Whirlpool side by side has low pressure with filter, works great without.

more than likely the saddle valve...the valve you or the plumber installed to tie into the water line and shut it off for filter install. it's getting clogged up. Turn it all the way off and on again 3 or 4 times this should clean out the little hole feeding thru the valve from the pipe.
hope this helps.
take a look here...pics of a saddle valve.

My automatic ice maker has produced hollow cubes, foul tasting cubes and now they just made cubes with a green color in the middle. What's up?

Hollow cubes usually caused by lack of enough water during fill. My guess is green is mold buildup. Check house water supply to refrigerator. Sometimes the little shut off valves for the refrigerator block up and need cleaned or replaced. Once you get proper size cubes, if taste/ color problem persists they sell small in line filters you can add in the water line to the refrigerator.(about $25.)

My Whirlpool side-by-side fridge is only making about 4 ice cubes every 12 hours. Any ideas on what maybe wrong?

I would suggest replaceing the water valve , behind the refrig , where the wall water line connects to , on the refrig , AND remove the front kick plate , and clean the coils on the bottom , of dust , lint pet hair , etc . If your ice maker cycles , at least 8 cubes at a time , should dump . If only 4 , then not enough water is going into the ice maker .

Our Maytag icemaker stopped making ice suddenly after we changed the filter. It dispenses water only.

Does the water have a good flow ? Did you try putting the old filter back in ? Never change the filter just because a little red light comes on . Only replace when the ice cubes get small or the water dispensor flow gets slow . I have found new filters that were bad . Distributors make a lot of money for filters just because of that little red lite . Not just maytag , but all other brands also . Try pouring about 1/2 cup of water into icemaker . If it dumps the cubes but doesn't fill , replace the water valve . If it doesn't dump , and holds the cubes for a long period of time , replace the icemaker . Also , you may need to clean the coils of dust , lint , etc....

Brownish yellow color in ice cubes, is this a filter problem?

Is it specks ? If so , then the coating from the ice mold is disintegrating . Replace the icemaker . If the water color is brownish yellow , then I would suggest Home Depot for a filter which mounts to the wall or under cabinet ( about 50-60.00 ) with removeable cartridges . Would not recommend filter where you cut the line and install on both ends (10.00) .

starving for water. clean or replace water filter or adjust water float assembly that determines how big cubes are. probably not getting abundant water during timed fill sequence. no water equals little ice.
