SOURCE: how to "tune-up" mechanical Kenmore sewing machine

Sure! Jenny at http://blog.sew-classic.com/categories/Sewing%20Machine%20Repair.aspx has several very good, in-depth articles about servicing your own machine, but here are the basic steps:

1. Take out the bobbin case and bobbin holder.
2. Take the needle plate off.
3. Brush out all the old lint in the bobbin area and under the needle plate. Remove any loose bit of thread.
4. Open the head of the machine (should swing open). Clean any lint or thread that's caught in there.
5. Locate your machine's oil ports and put one drop of sewing machine oil (only use sewing machine oil) in each of them. One drop is sufficient. General rule of thumb: Put one drop of oil wherever metal moves against metal.
6. Using unwaxed dental floss, floss the tension disks.
7. Put everything back together.

If you need a manual, I found one at http://pages.sewing-machine-manuals.com/173/InventoryPage/1834489/1.html.

Hope this is useful!

If it does not come ON.Then it can be issue with power supply cord or there is a short in control board.First the power has to be checked to the machine on board. It has to be checked by meter. If there is no power, then its short in the power supply wire cord. But if there is power to the board, then its short in the control board. The connectors on the board needs to be checked. Also unplug the plug in connectors from the control board. Then reconnect it after 10 minutes then recheck. In some cases, this resets the board and it comes ON and machine starts working.Done remove the soldered connections from the board, only the plug in connectors.---------- This should help.Keep updated.Thanks.Helpmech.

I have a Kenmore sewing machine, model 158.16800 and I need to disassemble it. I've removed the screws on the bottom and it still won't come apart. The case is metal.

A parts diagram may be helpful:

I suspect there may be some other bolts from the top that fasten to the base.

However, given that your machine may have seized (is there brown gunk inside the machine?), you may be able to address the issue without taking the entire machine apart.

How do I remove the bottom plate off of A Kenmore 1941 sewing machine? I removed all the screws and it still want come off.

1. Slide the front plate towards you. (Don't remove)
2. Lower feed dogs by rotating the hand wheel.
3. Raise the pressure foot or totally remove.
4. Remove the plate under the feed dogs.
5. If you remove the front plate it can be replaced at an angle. (Flat like paper) There are springs under the plate that must catch under the main frame of the sewing machine. Twist the plate until straight and push into position.

How to remove the cover on a singer 6510 sewing machine?

Depends on what you're trying to remove. On most machines, there is a separate cover over the thread path that is designed to be removed for cleaning. That is held by either one or two screws. If it's one screw, it's in the back; if it's two one is in the side and generally covered by a white plug whose purpose is just for looks.

If you have a covered screw, press on one side with a screwdriver and the other side generally pops out enough for you to grab it.

If you need to take off more than that cover, after the thread path cover, the generally the back comes off next, and the front comes off last. I would recommend that you purchase the service/repair manual; it will show you specifically how to take it off, and save you quite a bit of frustration. It's well worth the money! Sewing Parts Online offers Singer service manuals; if they don't have it in stock, they can order it for you. No, I don't work for them, but I often order from them.

How to take the safty cover off of a husquvarna sewing machene

I suggest getting a service manual that will show the various screws that have to be removed. In general, pull off the hand wheel, remove the screws from the bottom of the machine, and remove the screws from the back side of the machine. You'll need a set of Torx tools (from the local auto store). Also note that the plastic cover pieces snap together and will have to gently pried apart. Don't take off the front cover unless you have to. It's got electrical connections and is much more difficult to reassemble correctly.

Kenmore model19501 only sews backward. can i fix at home?

You can try the old hairdryer trick, take off the cover, (usually loosening screws and removing) then take the hairdryer and let it blow on the reverse and stitch length controls until it frees up. Use gloves because the metal may get hot.I read it on the www.sewvacdoctor.com I hope it works, it did for me. Just pay attention to where your screws go back in so that they are all in again. Other than that, you may need service.

on the left hand side of the sewing machine is the lamp cover door( face plate)
some have a hinge on the back & they just pull open
others have a hidden screw(there a tab you have to remove with a screw driver) then just unscrew the screw & take off the face plate & change the bulb
don't loose the tab or the screw
