Please don't use WD40 on your sewing machine, WD40 is an alcohol based cleaner and will do the opposite of lubricate. Take your machine to a certified Bernina Repair shop, they will have a look at the timing and lubricate all of your gears. Lubricant will dry out over time, grease turns to putty and oils turn to varnish after several years of non-service. Lint is attracted to moisture, moisture being those key areas of any machine. Lint acts like an oil wick and will draw out your lubricant from key areas. It then begins to attract dust and other nasty things over the years to become grit. Your motor begins to burn out due to stress trying to move all of these clocked gears, cams and shafts. Take your machine in!

You probably have a bind in the feed dog mechanism. If you can remove the covers and manually force them down you will see the hinge points that need to be oiled.
Unplug first!
Good luck.

SOURCE: Hand wheel on Kenmore model 1345 sewing machine

Take the bobbin and bobbin case out first of all and check for any minute pieces of thread stuck, lightly poil with WD40, find out where the squeak is, very important otherwise the machine may seize and it will cost a lot of money, oil all moving parts lightly

i am alwase taking things apart and when that happens i drill a small hole where there is no circuit boards, wires, or machinery and put a flat head screw driver in the hole and peel the two pieces apart

I have a Kenmore sewing machine, model 158.16800 and I need to disassemble it. I've removed the screws on the bottom and it still won't come apart. The case is metal.

A parts diagram may be helpful:

I suspect there may be some other bolts from the top that fasten to the base.

However, given that your machine may have seized (is there brown gunk inside the machine?), you may be able to address the issue without taking the entire machine apart.

HOW DO I REMOVE FRONT COVER ON KENMORE SEWING MACHINE

1. Newer machines are more difficult. You will have to find the hidden screws behind little plugs. You just pull out the plugs using a very thin screwdriver.
2. The next trick is to pull the machine apart. Their are snaps to unsnap by pulling. Pull a little on areas to see where the snap areas are holding parts tightly together. You will have to pull hard to get these areas unsnapped. You will get it but it takes a little work. Don't pry with your screwdriver or you will ruin the appearance.
3. The older machines are easier. Just unscrew and the parts come apart.
4. Whichever you are working on use some masking tape to mark the screws or hold the screws in the holes they come out of. If you don't do this you may have a problem when it comes time to reassemble.

I would take it in for service, because it sounds to me like the machine has threads wrapped around on the inside somewhere. Generally, you can take off the face cover relatively easily and it's designed to come off to clean the thread path. It's a separate cover section right over the needle shaft, and it's held by one or two screws, depending on the model. If it's two screws, one is in the side and may be covered by a little white plastic piece that you pop out by pressing on one side with a flat blade screwdriver, and the screw is underneath. When you press it, other side comes up, and you then remove it.

I can`t get the face cover off to oil it

on some of the kenmores there are 2 screws under the carring handle on the top of the machine you have to remove these. then lay the machine back and remove the screws on the bottom.the case should come of. if not there might be screws on the inside of the bottom plate.
