Question about Smith Corona Office Equipment & Supplies

Typewriter is not printing dark enough. Is there

Typewriter is not printing dark enough. Is there some way to make it print darker? It has been in storage for years and I replaced the ink catridges but you have to type the letters several times to get it dark enough to see.

The typewriter is a Smith Corona Deville 110. The ribbon I have is porelon brand for H series typewriters. I bought the ribbon at office depot and came straight home and put it in. Thank you for your help.

Not enough information is given. What brand of typewriter and what kind of ribbons? Carbon ribbons can dry out and not print correctly if not packaged or stored in heat. Humidity can also ruin carbon ribbon over long periods of time. If the machine is and IBM selectric it could be your ABC control lever is pushed to the back instead of being pulled all the way forward. These may help answer your question, but without knowing the details it is a shot in the dark. Hope this helps!

Many SCM typewriters have an impression control knob on them. Look for a knob on either the right or left side of the the keyboard with numbers from 1 to 10. The higher the number reading the darker it is supposed to print. Be careful not to go so high that the typeface cut holes in the paper. If this doesn't help, try putting a drop or two of sewing machine oil (or Triflow Oil) on your finger and rubbing it across the typebar segment (the slotted and curved metal piece that the typebars pivot in). Since the typewriter sat a while the segment may be sticky. Hope this helps.

How do I adjust the keys on an Olympia Socialite manual so they can strike darker letters?

This is a manual typewriter, the harder you press the darker the print. You might try a fresh ribbon.

Type is faded and old looking even with new ribbon.

Put in a multi part form, if the carbons print well then try a fresh ribbon,. not one that has been sitting around for a long time. If it is bad check for debris around the print hammer, If its clean either the print solenoid is gummy or the solenoid cap is broken.
