SOURCE: Front load washer shakes violently during spin cycle

I had this problem as well. I called dealer and Maytag. They made an appointment and stood me up several times.
I finally went to place that sells refrigeration equipment and bought an anti-vibration pad. It's a 12" square waffle pad used under large equipment to prevent them from vibrating loose on connected piping. I cut it into 4 pieces and put one under each corner of the dryer. Problem solved, in fact it worked so well that I stacked dryer over washer, placed pads between units and have not had a problem since. I also gained a lot of space in my laundry room as well.

Why does it always become unbalanced in spin cycle?

how confident are you to get inside it? Check the balance springs and shock absorbers.

Normally it is two simple things.

First the machine must be level front to back and left to right. Also all 4 feet must be in equal contact with the floor.

Make sure you load the washer evenly with clothes. Mix large and small items so when the spin starts the clothes even out. Never wash just one large item that is very absorbent, like one bathrobe or one blanket..

Washer shakes violently!

Do you not know that unbalanced dry clotrhes become super unbalanced wet clothes! If you put too little clothing in the front loader, the weight will be in one place on the high speed turning drum. If you put in too much, the load will shift to a few locations but still be out of balance. Rather than "dance" the Chubby Checker way with your machine, try stopping it when it does "the dance" and redistribute the clothing around the drum!

My washer jumps around when spinning. this happens intermittently

if it is a front loader and on a pedestal make sure it is level not just front to back but side to side also. Here are some of the reasons a front loader shakes violently.
1-- not level
2-- unbalanced load... washing 1 item or large comforter
3-- Wrong soap.. using reg detergent instead of HE
4-- bolts mounting mach to pedestal are loose. They are located above the drawer. two for front and two for rear.
5-- Faulty shocks.. requires tech to repair
6-- unhooked springs.. requires tech to diag and repair
7-- rear bearing failure. can be checked by pushing up on top front edge of basket and looking for movement independent of outter tub. Sometimes you can feel a clicking of the bearing moving up and down when you do this. This repair usually costs more than the machine is worth if very old. Ignoring this problem can lead to more damage, water leakage, and possibly fire.

I have a top loader and replaced the coupler, now the drum is unbalanced when spinning, how do I re balance it. The technician says its a simple job but will not tell me how

If you had the washer tilted back when you replaced the coupler, this may just be a simple matter of releveling the washer. Whirlpool top loaders have an auto-leveling mechanism on the back two feet of the washer. Periodically, you may need to check the level due to normal vibration and moving the appliance.. The following link explains how:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3868923-level_whirlpool_top_loading_washer

If the washer is unlevel it can give the appearance of the drum being tilted. Try this and let me know if this helps you. If not, please post back and let me know.

Maytag P MAV6057AWW Even though the machine is level when it spins causing the floor to vibrate. The tub seems to move more than it normal would when force is applied. Thought about the damper pads,...

Hi from retired Englishman in France,

I am presuming, rightly or wrongly, that this is a front loader? I'm afraid I cannot tell from the reference.

If you are sure 1) that the machine is definitely balanced/level and that the 4 feet are equally firm on the floor and 2) the tub CAN be moved more easily than it should then it could be the dampers/shock absorbers. The bearings I would think would let you know that it/they are worn by the noise. I wouldn't expect them to go quietly!
Questions to ask are how old/used is it and has it been subjected to excessive unbalancing previously that could cause a damper to fail?
If your husband is confident and it IS a front loader have him take the back off WITH POWER OFF and visually check the damper(s). That should lead you in the right direction. Hope this helps but it is more difficult at a distance with this type of symptom.

The bearings on the drum may be going bad or the counter weight may be broken off or missing or heavy unbalanced loads. Reach inside and try lifting up on the interior drum. If it moves up and down or you feel any popping I would say the bearings are going bad. They usually make a lot more noise on the spin cycle also. Similar to an airplane taking off.
Hope this helps.

My front load washer "walks across the tile floor", it is level, what can I do

A washing machine may wiggle, rattle or move across the floor. It is often accompanied by excessive, or loud noise. There can be several causes and the problem is worse with some units more than others. The most common cause is an unbalanced wash load. Open the lid/door, and attempt to redistribute the clothing to balance the weight. Heavy loads, especially things like comforters, are more likely to become unbalanced than small loads. If you do a lot of heavy loads, you should consider a heavy duty/large capacity washer when it comes time to replace your current unit. A washer must be level both from side to side as well as from front to back. Washing machines have adjustable feet to enable you to level them. See your manual on how to level your washing machine. The outer tub/basket, is supported by springs, pistons or counterweights to keep it balanced. The weight of all that water in a wash load requires a powerful balancing mechanism. If the balancing system becomes detached from one or more points, it will not be able to balance the load properly. Furthermore, even if everything appears to be in place, as the appliance ages, the springs or pistons/shock absorbers, may begin to wear out and not support as much weigh as needed.

Unplug the washer and open the cabinet. Because of the variety of balancing mechanisms, you will have to inspect your machine to determine how it is balanced. Once you discover the mechanism, then inspect it for integrity. In the case of old parts that appear to be in working order, you may not be able to tell if they need to be replaced. They may be weak but appear to be in good condition. If no other solution resolves the problem, then replacing the balancing springs or other moving support parts may be the best action.Another common cause for excessive movement, or clunking, is the floor on which the washer rests. The washer is heavy and even more so when filled with water. Any floor, other than a concrete slab, will tend to pick up and amplify the vibrations from the machine. There are a couple things you can try. If you have access to the joists under the floor, you may be able to beef up the support. Another thing to try is placing a large sheet of plywood under the washer. It should be 3/4" or even 1" thick and as large as possible to distribute the weight. Use a sheet big enough for both the washer and dryer to sit on. If possible fasten the plywood to the existing floor.

Washer vibrates alot

The following link may give you some pointers on what to check on your kenmore Elite to resolve the vibration problem:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3633026-front_loader_excessive_vibration

This could be a matter of the legs becoming unlevel during the move, a shock absorber becoming damaged, or it could be the new location. These front loaders need a good firm and level foundation. Read through the link provided and let me know if you have any questions. I hope this helps you solve your problem.
