Question about Epson Stylus R290 InkJet Printer

2 Answers

I have an Epson R290 printer. I've been getting an error message asking me to cancel all print jobs and remove any bits of stuck paper from inside the machine. I've done all this but am still getting the same message. Could this be a paper feeder malfunction?

    Thanks Aicaxz.

The situation is this: I have a CISS system installed in the print carriage. I was able to only half way get this out as was not sure how to get the carriage across to the centre. Replacement procedure wasn't available in the maintenance section and anything I tried to activate there just gave the same message - paper jam!

Any more ideas out there on where to go with this?

Thanks again. The carriage 'checks' it's position - knows it's on - but doesn't move at all from starting place! I can see nothing that may be blocking it but can't get access underneath to see what could be going on! I seem to remember a few days before it stopped I was using a new grade of paper which it seemed to be having difficulty feeding on a couple of occasions! Apart from this I've had almost hassle free use from this machine!

Usually, it's caused by carriage error. Turn on printer without ink tank pluged. Then do replacement procedure with pluging ink tank 1 by 1.

It might be the carriage moving blocked by some material or by CISS pipe. Check it. Turn on printer and unplug power while carriage moving. So, the carriage can move freely by hand to the replacement position. Unplug all ink tank and CISS system. Turn on printer again for checking carriage moving. If the carriage can move like it should be, the message must be : Ink Out/Ink not recognized (because there are no ink tank plug in).
I am interesting in troubleshooting this type printer, because i think R290 is the best choice for CISS using. I use it now, and have printed more than 100.000 pages.

If you are getting a 'carriage jam' error as soon as you turn on your Epson printer with no tasks in progress, then check for any piece of paper stuck in the carriage. Remove the paper carefully. If the paper tears, part of it might remain inside the paper path and damage the product.

Fix 'Carriage Jam' : Open Door, clear carriage jam,
and then press OK to continue' error message
Turn off the printer and open it to see where the paper is stuck.
Manually move the carriage toward the opposite side.
Check the paper path and remove any piece of paper or any other object that is stuck in the path.
Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.

Troubleshooting

  1. Clear all print jobs waiting to be printed from the computer before turning off the printer. To fully clear all print jobs you will need to restart the computer. See the following Related Articles if you require help with this step:
  2. Once you have cancelled the print queue and restarted the computer, hold down the button-paper_trash.gif Paper/Bin/Cancel button or dx4400stopbutton.jpg Stop / Clear button for 3-5 seconds.
  3. Power off the printer/All-In-One. After it has powered off, also turn it off at the power point or disconnect its power cable, if possible.
  4. Open the printer lid/scanner unit to make sure any tape securing the ink cartridge holder/print head has been removed. Some printers have a plastic block which helps prevent the ink cartridge holder from moving during transit - make sure that this has been removed/is not in place.
  5. Check for any foreign objects inside the printer that may be causing an obstruction to the print head. Check for torn pieces of paper around the front of the printer and the ink cartridge holder/print head. Carefully remove any paper or other obstructions from the paper path and inside the printer by hand.
  6. Check that the ink cartridge holder/print head is positioned on the right side of the printer (as you look at it from the front). If it is positioned on the left, see the following Related Article: How can I resolve the issue where the print head positions itself on the left / does not return to its home position?
  7. Close the printer cover/scanner unit. Press the On button to power on the product. If the error message still appears, contact your dealer or EPSON.

May r290 printer is not working its showing cartidge and paper error and doing nothing..its blinks again and again

Hi There

Summary

Usage of compatible ink and leave the printer idle too long may cause printhead clogging
What should you do if you get this problem. Relax; you may recover the printhead by unclogging it. Follow these steps to unclog the printhead

1. Right click in the printer driver name
2. Select Properties menu
3. Click Maintenance tab
4. Click on cleaning sign for regular cleaning. Perform this up to 3 times.
5. If this does not work, perform Deep Cleaning

And if that not work

Some times it needs a good clean up but this is up to you if you want to do this,
But after you done this prime the printer so it gets the inks back in the heads, it may take a little time for the inks to work.

Ok.

There is fluid cleaner for this but I can never find any in the shops the only ones I seen is when they sell them in Tesco but they come in with the ink refill bottles so I just use worm water by it self on a cloth and dabbing on the heads to clean them, it will not harm the heads but not to much water.

Some heads are on the inks them self but some have them inside the printer so I not know your printer so if the heads are inside you need to get them out you may find that some heads will just clip out put some need to be unscrewed so you got to know how they come out so be careful and not push to hard on them, if the heads are on the ink then it is a easy job to clean them,
It worth a try it worked for me more than ones.

also
First step, remove the ink cartridge, and turn the printer upside down and gently shake it, see if anything comes out.

If nothing goes, or you can't hear anything rattling around, get a piece of cardstock paper (60lb or heavier) and gently push this through the printer, to see if it will help push out what might be stuck in there.

And gave the rode that the ink slides on a good clean and maybe a bit oil on cloth and wipe the rod with it.

Also clean The purge unit, called a spittoon assembly in an HP, Lexmark, Caonon and other inkjet printers, is where the print head assembly parks when not in use, also its other job is to clean and make sure the print head is clean and open for printing.

That is where you'll find the print head assembly parked on top of it.
It also has an electrical pump to milk the print heads and test for ink flow.

So clean all under where the heads are parked and on IP6600D models you can take out the heads just by clipping them out, and then clean well.

Please all I ask is call back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one, so I will keep on helping.

I have (4) documents to print, but it won't print. It says: 4 document(s) pending owner

To cancel a print job in Windows you can use one of the following two methods:

CANCELLING A PRINT JOB WITH THE PROGRESS METER:
When you send a print job to the printer, the Status Monitor will appear in the bottom right corner of your screen. Another printer icon for the PROGRESS METER will also appear in the taskbar while printing is taking place. This PROGRESS METER is there so you can manage print priorities or cancel print jobs.

1. Highlight the print job in the PROGRESS METER box.
2. Click on DOCUMENT and CANCEL, or, right click on the job name and left click CANCEL or DELETE.
3. Confirm cancelling the print job.

CANCELLING A PRINT JOB FROM THE PRINTERS WINDOW:
If no PROGRESS METER appears, you can access the document queue in this fashion:

1. Open START, SETTINGS, CONTROL PANEL, PRINTERS (START, CONTROL PANEL, PRINTERS and FAXES in Windows XP).
2. Right click on your Epson printer name, left click PURGE PRINT JOBS (98,ME), or CANCEL ALL DOCUMENTS (2000,XP). (Or, double-click on the printer name to see and modify the status of documents in queue.)
3. Confirm cancelling all documents.

Keep in mind that once information has been sent to the printer it resides in the spooling folders within Windows. It may a while for printing to stop as this data clears the system.

If the printer continues to print (ie multiple copies of a cancelled job, or garbled print) remove the rest of the paper from the printer and allow it to run out. Once an "out of paper" type error appears on your screen, cancel the documents. Once all print job information has deleted, reload the paper and press the paper feed button once to clear the red light and return the printer to a ready state.
