I'm having the same problem with my shift lock and I cannot find a place to lube or fix a spring. I see where it engages and disengages when I press the button, but I cannot fix the problem, still. Did you fix yours, yet?

Probably the lock spring is broken or just sticky. Flip it on it's back and look closely at the shift lock latch. You should be able to easily see the problem. Fix the spring or lube the latch.

The peice of my typewriter that is supposed to move the paper tothe left as you type doesnt move?

It's either in the carriage lock position, just check if it's locked in place.
The other reason may be that the return spring has broken. Easy to replace & is repairable sometimes.

This is called motion adjustment
I assume the "segment" or the type faces go up and down when you shift? otherwise the "platen" where paper goes goes up and down either way there are a bump stop that is adjustable. usually with a flat blade screwdriver and a 5/16" wrench. there will be a bump stop on each side that must be adjusted equally however only one may be loose causing the problem. but first you should check the linkage for bends or binds shift lock should hold it to the maximum against the stops. Typewriter carriage royal quiet deluxe everytime I type the lid keeps on popping open. I was wondering how to fix it?

There is a snap lock spring like a small dowel on the cover, the spring must be loose. Tighten the screw if it is loose, otherwise, detach it and slowly bend it back to shape (Be careful, springs sometimes break and fragments can go to your eyes, use goggles), after that return it. If the spring is too loose, you have to change it. Another source can be the like thing that goes into a small hole maybe worn off. It is usually under the cover. You might have to replace it.

Shift Key Problem , Royal Quiet Deluxe

There is a carriage shifting screw on both sides of the typewriter. You will recognize this because it is a screw that has a big bump head with felt on it. It is being hit when you hit that shift lever. You will have to loosen the securing nut first before adjusting.

2005 yamaha royal star. what type and how much oil for the tranny?

The Royal Star crankcase lubricates engine, transmission and wet clutch at the same time, that's why frequent oil and filter changes are recommended. Use a high-quality multi-grade oil, 10W-30 in cold weather and 20W-40 in hot weather is recommended by the manufacturer. AVOID ANY OIL THAT SAYS ENERGY-CONSERVING (you'll see a seal on the bottle), that type of oil has a tendency to make the clutch slip. Personally, I recommend a multi-grade synthetic - I use Shell Rotella-T (T6) synthetic 5W-40 year-round, 111,000 miles since I changed from Mobil-1 0W-40 (9,000 on the Mobil-1) ; the engine's still tight, and the transmission and clutch are quiet.

You have to hold the magic margin button down while you move the carriage all the way to the left, then release the margin button. Then repeat for thr right margin. Hold the right magic margin button down while moving the carriage all the way to the right, then release the margin button.
