Question about Icom IC-R10 Handheld Scanner
I have an ICOM IC-28H vhf transciever and do not get any increase in volume when I turn the volume control, both on internal as well as external speakers. Do I need to clean the contacts on the volume control, if so how do I do it.Thanks emeskew
I had a very similar problem on a hand held scanner. In my case the mylar speaker cone had separated from the voice coil. I found an exact replacement for under $4 at Allied Electronics.

This is not a fix for the faint of heart. remember that you have a Transceiver, not just a Receiver. There is more that can go wrong once you have opened it up. With that being said, if you still want to tackle this, you need to gain access to the volume control pot with the knob off and spray contact cleaner into the pot itself. Use a Qtip with cleaner on it to clean the exterior contacts. Make sure all is dry before re assembling. If that does not work, then your volume pot is going bad and needs to be replaced.
