Question about Andis 01690 Hair Trimmer
I have the Oster Golden A5 clippers. I was clipping my chow mix and the just stopped cutting. Blades are moving but the hair is not cutting. I used the Oster Wash and they started cutting for just a bit, then they stopped cutting again. I used the wash again but they did not start cutting this time. I took the nameplate off and brushed away any hair. Still not cutting. Any ideas?
The stationary blades are held on by a couple of screws. Loosening these screws will allow some lateral movement of the blades. Adjust the blades till the proper alignment is restored. Just like scissors, there must be gaps between the moving and stationary blades at one point, then the moving blades close the gaps which cut the hair.

Here is how I fixed my problem with the A5: There is a curved piece of metal that is meant to push the moving blade down on the stationary blade (that is attached to the handle with the two show Phillips-head screws). It fits into a slot on the moving blade. There is also a very thin nylon cover that fits on to this metal piece that goes between the blade and this piece. It adds a slight extra thickness that causes the moving blade to press harder on to the stationary blade.
It came off unnoticed when I took off the blade and went underneath the curved piece. The blade goes back together without it and there was no indication that something was missing, other than the A5 did not cut.
When I took the tool apart again under a strong light, I saw that thin nylon cover hiding in there and worked out how to assemble the tool with it in place. It started working after that.
One other thing: in the meantime I also rubbed the two blade faces against a Japanese water-stone. Extremely mild grit (4000) but maybe this removed some unwanted residue. Perhaps this also helped in getting it going.

Pry open blade with screwdriver (carefully) and clean hair from between blades

I'll buy a Oster A5 that the motor runs but does not clip

I ended up buying a new one speed clipper as the problem with the Oster A5 didn't resolve itself. The blades were not blunt by any means.
I did notice however, when I compared the two, that the old Oster A5 had a small piece of metal near to the blade which appeared to have sheared off?
The new blades are fine (so far!).
I have to say I'm not impressed with the standard and lack of service available for these things. They'are not exactly cheap!

I have used Oster clippers to trim my four sets of dogs over the past 42 years. I still have an Oster A5 and an Oster Golden A5.
I felt that these clippers were getting 'tired' so I purchased the Oster Turbo A5 thinking that it would really improve my trimming time on my two standard poodles. I have had problems from word go. After clipping 10 minutes, the clippers are burning my hand, let alone the poor dogs body. I lay the clippers down on a frozen ice pack in-between cutting and I use CoolLube and they just heat right back up again. Aside from throwing them into the Gulf, I hope someone has an answer on these Osters.

I have the Oster A5 Turbo clippers which I use clipping my horse. Unfortunately, each time I loan them to someone, they come back broken. Most times I have found it is the hard nylon gear. If anything "chinks" it, a gouge appears and the clipper won't cut. I now keep several of these on hand. However, my problem now is the blades. I have keep several sharpened at all times. However, I cannot seem to figure out how to put them back on. There is NO DIAGRAM on putting the blades back together on the clipper. I have about 5 pieces and after I assemble them in what I think is correct, the blades don't move. Help! Anyone know of a site for a diagram?
