Check exhaust venting for clogged vent. If timer won't stop, you probabably have an issue with the timer.

My roper dryer works fine, it heats and the timer advances, it just wont shut off at the the end of a timed dry or auto dry. What do you think?

A timed drying cycle uses the timer alone to stop the drying cycle. Once it times out like an egg timer a set of contacts open up shutting off the dryer. Or a set of contacts closes to activate a relay which in turn shuts off the power.
Auto dry usually uses a moisture sensor which would do the same thing as the timer. Once it doesnt sense moisture in the load for a predetermined time it in turn triggers a relay which shuts the power off. Some auto dry cycles just use the timer alone and guess-timate the drying time by the selection.
If yours does not use a moisture sensor then most likely it is your timer/cycle switch. There may or may not be a relay involved.
Most dryers have a basic wiring diagram on the inside somewhere on one of the panels which will help.
Since yours is acting up on both cycles Im guessing you have a bad relay or connection to that relay somewhere IF it uses a moisture sensor.

My Whirlpool electric dryer does not shut off when a load is done. The door must remain open in order for the dryer to stop. Other than that, the dryer works perfectly. Is it a switch or the timer or...

Pull the dryer out from the wall and take the vent hose OFF it is in the back, and then try it on auto-dry with no clothes in it and see if it runs through fine if it does not turn off then a new timer should fix it. Good Luck Tim. here is a website that will help click on timer motor, or you can use the virtual repairman:

Sounds like you have the same problem I did. You need to replace the flame sensor. Takes about 15 - 30 minutes. You can order the part online here

Hi. Our dryer will start normally and then the

HI. This will occur when the there are issues that concern the integrity of the timer motor. This mechanism is responsible for the rotation of the timer module. It is damaged at this time, and it must be replaced asap.

A damaged timer motor will affect the nature of the drying cycle. It is the main initiator of all functions during the selected cycle.

Dishwasher wont go through the cycles

Hi. this will occur when the timer control or control board has experienced a major fault within the circuitry. in most cases, the actual timer mechanism will fail. this will stop the forward advancement of the wash cycle.

Total replacement of the timer control module or control board will fix this issue.

Gas dryer wont trun off after drying

If your dryer seems to run forever, it could be because of a clogged vent or internal ductwork. Your dryer may have an automatic cycle that turns off the dryer when the clothes are dry. It does this with a special thermostat or moisture-sensing system.

Normally, this is what happens during an automatic cycle:

  • The thermostat tells the dryer to heat until the interior of the dryer reaches a pre-set temperature--say 135 degrees.

  • When the dryer reaches the pre-set temperature, the thermostat tells the timer to begin advancing. (If there's a moisture sensor, the timer advances only if the moisture content of the clothing is low enough.)

  • The timer advances until the interior cools, then the thermostat tells the timer to stop advancing, and tells the dryer to start heating again.

This cycle continues until the clothes are dry. But…if the vent is clogged, the dryer may never reach the proper operating temperature, so it doesn't send the signal to the timer and the dryer continues to run indefinitely, even if the clothes are completely dry. To fix the problem, clean the vent and/or internal ductwork.
