Question about Pioneer DVR-440HX-S DVD Recorder / HDD Recorder

DVR-440HX EPG problems

I have a DVR-440HX. Since the digital switch over the digital epg guide is always incomplete and usually contains a lot of gaps which are random though particularly affects channels 4 and 5. It often makes timer setting impossible. What is causing this can be done to cure it? Also will guide+ ever be back?

Hi,

You could try looking on Pioneer's web site to see if a firmware download is available. This sort of thing can happen as time and technology moves on, a firmware update can be like giving your machine a bit of an upgrade and often rectifies issues like this. As for channel four and 5 doesn't everybodies EPG behave like that? I think it's to do with bandwidth in the digital signal, quite often you will notice that groups of channels will be affected at the same time these usually share the same area of bandwidth.

Regard, James

How do I access a programme that I have recorded via epg using the original remote control. How do I set the time on my tv.

You don't mention the make and model of the TV, so it's not possible to give a specific answer.

The EPG is normally detailing the TV guide. I wouldn't expect to find my recorded programs listed in the EPG. There'll be a different way of accessing timer recordings. Check your user manual. Same for setting the time. It will be listed in the user manual.

So.... Who uses a VCR any more. They are ancient history.
They don't last forever so perhaps it's time to think ahead....

The modern way to Record video is to use a Hard Disk Drive Recorder rather than a VCR. They have a built in tuner and can record 2 stations at once and have a built in Electronic Program Guide. The EPG info is transmitted with the Digital TV transmission from the broadcaster.
I bought one 2 weeks ago for an old 85yo friend so he could record late night stuff and play back later. He still uses the VCR but only for old VHS Tape playback. I got him a TEAC HDR9650TS Digital Video Recorder and I picked it up new for Aus$188.

Main Features:
DVB-T Twin Digital Turners
DVR Recording: Record three channels while watching a 4th from same network Smart Series Record feature to record a whole series at a touch of a button
2.5" Sata Hard disk: 500GB
Time Shift Function (Pause live TV)
HDMI Digital Output
Digital Audio Output
CVBS/YPbPr/SPDIF connectors
Supports TV formats 4:3 and 16:9
Electronic Program Guide (EPG) up to 7 days in advance
EPG searching and auto download
Recorded program edit
Parental Control
Copy files from internal HDD to external HDD
Built-in WiFi
Network Playback
USB 2.0 Interface

Cheers
Good Luck
Maybe you can get a little more life out of that VCR still

I guess you mean a Set Top Box to convert digital TV transmission to old analog TV. Choose the correct video format for your screen.
Ah... Perhaps Your recording at an old standard & passing it to a modern TV or HD TV with the digital output from 1080 HD to 720 or lower still.
OR
Get a Digital Hard Drive recorder.....

Can't get EPG to display after set up

johnandja460

You haven't specified which type equipment you are experiencing the problem. With our DISH Network receivers, if the EPG does not display you can do 1 of 2 things. First, unplug the receiver from the electrical outlet for 10 seconds and plug back in. This causes the receiver to reboot and re-acquire satellite signal. Then it will download the EPG.

If you still don't have the EPG, you can then run a check switch test. Press the Menu button on the remote. Main Menu will display on the TV screen. Press 6 (System Setup), 1 (Installation), and 1 (Point Dish) on the number pad. Highlight the Check Switch button on the right of the screen and press select. On the Installation Summary screen, highlight the Test button on the bottom left. Press select. The receiver will perform a switch installation check. After the test is completed, exit out of all screens till you are back to the TV screen. The receiver will acquire satellite signal and download the EPG. I hope this helps.

My jvc lt32de1bj TV has very slow loading epg. Is there a quick fix to speed it up

I'm afraid not. The loading of EPG programme tames is down to the TV transmissions. Some times you may hit lucky and find the EPG guide straight away, othertimes I have waited 5 minutes for a basic list!

How to use EPG

EPG or Electronic Programme Guide is the on-screen version of a tv guide for digital tv. The remote control usually has a dedicated button for the display of the EPG.

The information displayed is often incomplete and some digital boxes or tv sets perform better than others though in theory it needs no setting up. Once the box has searched and made a channel list the programme guide will be available.

The EPG is the electronic program guide trying to download TV listings.

This is normal for this player. To disable this, you would need to turn off the TV guide function.

If once you power on you switch channels to BBC1 youwill find the EPG updates quite quickly.

Hope this helps out.

Recording from guide plus

Recording from the guide requires that the unit be off to receive guide info regularly and copy it to the HD. If your reception is poor or your DVD on time is too great, the guide will not have any info, and the recording be nameless, except for channel and time info. You can force the EPG mode by removing the power plug from the back of the unit, but only do this after you have turned the unit off! While copying the guide to the HD, the display shows EPG while th unit is off, and you will hear the HD cycling.
