Question about Amana 22.6 cu. ft. Side-By-Side Refrigerator with FrontFill Ice and Water

Bad smell that won't go away

Hello. Had some fish in the fridge for only 2 days, didn't go bad, didn't leak out. But now I've had a lingering fish odor for 3 weeks. Pulled everything out and cleaned thoroughly, twice, boxes of baking soda, etc. Now smell is in the freezer as well. Is there any filters I'm missing? It is a 10-15 year old Amana side by side that has performed very well. Help!

SOURCE: refrigerator will not get cold, but freezer works

Do you know if the compressor in the back is running? If you can check that out get back to me and we can go from there. Most times if the fan in the freezer is running the defrost timer is ok.

SOURCE: Refrigerator Smell

Is the problem more in the freezer than the fridge section. If it is it is possible that on a defrost cycle the heaters which warm the coil may have warped and ar heating something they shouldnt. Another possibility is if there is something in the condensate tray (where the water collects) or something touching the compressor which runs very hot, or even the compressor relay if it is a 'plastic' smell. Smells are notoriously bad things to trace as engineers normally turn up when the smell is either gone or so faint as to not to detect. All I can suggest is trying to narrow the search area as much as you can and hopefully youll find it. Hope this is of some help.

Morphy Richards iron smells bad.

Do you use distilled water in your iron. The filters may have bacteria on them, especially if the filter does not get very hot. Bacteria thrives in dark, wet environments. The bacteria has moved away from the filter into the iron, so changing filters would not help much for very long. I would buy a new iron that does not use filters and only use distilled water in it. Distilled water stops mineral deposits from forming inside the iron.

Chemical odor...

Hi,

HERE ARE 10 EFFECTIVE WAYS TO REMOVE THE BAD SMELL:

1. CharcoalCharcoal is on top of my list as it is one of the best absorbent agents that can absorb and soak up the bad odour. Charcoal is also widely used as water filters and in most odour removing commercial products. You can put a medium-sized chunk of charcoal inside your smelly refrigerator for instance, and leave it there for a couple of days. You will notice that it can effectively remove the bad smell.
2. Baking SodaBaking soda is also a good absorbent. Put a generous amount of baking soda in an uncovered container (the size of the container depends on the size of the confined area) and leave it for several days. Remove the baking soda and replace it with new one and leave it for a couple of days. Continue replacing the baking soda until it has cleared the bad smell.
3. Lemon or Lime PeelJust put some lemon or lime peels into an uncovered container and leave them inside the confined area for a couple of days. The citrus smell will naturally replace the bad smell.
4. Pandan Leaf (also known as Pandanus or Screwpine)It is easy to get pandan leaf in tropical countries as it is widely used in Southeast Asian cooking to add aroma to dishes. Its pleasant aroma also acts as natural air freshener. Just take a few strips of the pandan leaves and tie them into knots. Place the leaves inside the confined space and leave them until the leaves withered or dried up. Replace the leaves regularly until the smell goes away.
5. Vanilla Essence Pour several drops of vanilla essence on a couple of cotton wools. Toss the cotton wools inside the confined space such as your wardrobe. Leave them for several days and you will notice that the area smells nice.
6. Mint Extract If you favor neither the smell of citrus nor vanilla, you can perhaps use mint extract instead. Pour several drops of mint extract on a couple of cotton wools. Toss the cotton wools inside the confined space and leave them for a couple of days.
7. Fresh Ground CoffeeGround coffee has a nice, crisp natural aroma. Just put about a cup of ground coffee in a flat, uncovered container. Place the container inside the confined space for several days. If the bad smell is extremely horrible, put more ground coffee. The area will smell of fresh coffee for many days.
8. Tea BagsIf you don't like coffee, you can use tea bags instead. Just place 2-3 tea bags inside the confined space. The tealeaves in the bags will not only absorb the bad smell but also will release the natural aroma of tea.
9. Orange and ClovesGet an orange and poke it with sharp objects like needle or fork to form small holes. Place each of the cloves inside these small holes until most of the orange surfaces are covered. It may look like a hedgehog with the cloves jutting out of the orange fruit. Leave it in the confined area for a couple of days. The area will smell nice with the said combinations.
10. Old Newspaper and Slices of BreadOld newspaper and slices of bread also work wonders in absorbing the bad odours particularly inside the refrigerator. Just place some crumpled old newspaper and two slices of bread (uncovered) inside your refrigerator and leave them for two days. Replace them (especially the bread) regularly until the bad smell is removed.

You can also use the combination of any of the above tips together, to effectively remove bad smell. Try those tips and you will say goodbye to bad smells forever.

Goodluck,
Please don't forget to rate the solution.

Freon leak in refrigerator?

no refrigerant leaks have little to no odor and if it was leaking bad enough to smell it the unit would be out of refrigerant and not cooling...the problem sounds like gases coming off of a veggie of something un-covered inside the fridge--have you put any veggies in the fridge or freezer un-covered check real good if one or a piece of something has fallen behind something else where you cannot see...all else fails remove all your products from the unit and clean and get a box of odor control arm&hammer to rid the smell..as for a leak in the sealed system i think your just fine.

The fridge and freezer smell like a dead animal. cleaned the inside with bleach but still smells for weeks. model w10212088

There are two reasons for bad smells. 1. Long time not being used. 2. Lack of cleaning inside compartment.

Solution: Unplug fridge. Keep open fridge door. Dip a dry cloth in soap water and start cleaning each and every compartment. Keep freezer door also open. And then clean with another dry cloth. Keep both doors open for nearly 5 hrs. It will be enable fresh air to **** the smell inside fridge.
After 5 hrs close the fridge and run on empty for one hour. Keep food items after one hour. Please keep all food items closed vessel. Not only it's avoid odor but also be hygienic.
If you use to keep fish items in freezer, clean fridge once in a week.(Spray roo spray in the room when you keep fridge door opened. Don't spray into fridge.)Helpful.

Brand new fridge. I have a bad smell like urine comming out from the bottom front. is this a leak.. fridge is staying cold. this smell started a week ago. Fridge is 2 months old

smell is urea,it is a gas produced when plastics get hot,it will go away in time, but also check the drain for a blockage (syringe with clorine bleach)and if fitted, wipe out the condensate pan with clorine
last make sure the door seals fit all round as iif not flush any condensate will drip out from the front bottom.

Foul fish smell emanating from the freezer

Well an old remedy is to put a box of opened arm and hammer baking soda in the freezer and fridge to keep it from having bad odors. If that doesn't work you can try some charcoal it is perfect for absorbing odor, just don't use the matchlight kind or it will smell like lighter fluid.

Air will not come out when turned on smell of burned oil. A/C is also effected

Do this.

1.)At your thermostat...Turn system switch to off position(dont have it in heat, cool, or auto mode).
2.)At your thermostat...put fan switch from auto to on position.
Do you have a indoor fan(is air coming out the small registers in ceiling or floor).
Do you smell "Oil" smell(most likely an electrical smell).

If you have no indoor blower, a bad smell, most likely your indoor blower motor fried, your control box has fried,or a combination of both.

Hopefully it's just a fan motor but the smell should go away after a bit.It shouldnt linger for days.

My guess if it lingers you burnt your transformer from a low side short.

Call a tech.

Fridge smell

check the pipes at the back of the fridge, it could be that one of the pipes has a crack and is leaking gas or oil. If not check the inside of the fride for a brown oily residue. This indicates a leak. Don't turn the fridge back on becasue if the oil and gas mix then the fridge will no longer be usable. If you find either of these get an engineer to fix the problem.

Smelly Fridge

Try putting an open can or two of coffee inside. My mother's freezer had gotten unpluged and it was full of fish. She put cans of coffee inside and shut the door a couple of days later she took them out and the freezer did not stink anymore. Hope it works for you.
