When trying to connect the ps3 using the supplied analog cables nothing appears on the screen it is as if there is no output from the unit. Prior to this the unit was hooked up using the hdmi cable. Any ideas on how to get the unit to work?

Make sure all connections are secure. and that the a/v cables are plugged in to a input jack and the colors match ie yellow to yellow for video red to red and white to white for sound they and also be sure the right input selection is selected on tv. this setup will not work in the componet input jacks.
if this helps please rate this answer so it can help others thank you and good luck

How to you connect PS3 to to model 37PD5000

Good day!!!

Please try this procedure to connect the PS3 to TV..

The PS3 has a Blu-ray drive that can be used not only for playing games but also for watching high-definition movies. The best way to connect a PS3 to a high-definition viewing device such as a video projector is through the PS3's high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) output. The HDMI connection can transmit up to 1080p high-definition from the PS3 to the video projector using a single cable. Attaching and setting up the HDMI cable will only take a few minutes and will let you watch high-definition video from the PS3 on the video projector.

  1. Connecting HDMI
    • Attach one end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI output connector of the PS3. Turn the HDMI cable around if it does not slip right into the HDMI output, because the HDMI cable can only fit into an HDMI connector one way.
Attach the other end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI input connector that is on the video projector. Make sure both sides of the HDMI cable is securely pushed into the connectors of the PS3 and of the video projector. Turn on the video projector. Press the "Menu" button on the video projector's remote. Navigate to the "Sources" setting on the video projector's Menu. Select "HDMI" from the "Sources" setting. Press the "Menu" button on the remote control again to exit the Menu.
    Adjusting the PS3
    • Turn on the PS3. Wait for the "Home" menu to appear on the video projector, although the quality of the video seen from the video projector will be muddied and dark. Navigate from the "Home" menu to the "Systems" icon using the game controller and select the "Display Settings" tab. Choose "Video Output Settings" from the list presented in the screen that appears. Press the right side of the directional pad on the game controller to move to the next screen.
Choose "HDMI" from the list presented in the screen that appears. Press the right side of the directional pad on the game controller to move to the next screen. Choose "Automatic" from the list presented in the screen that appears. Press the right side of the directional pad on the game controller to move to the "Confirmation" screen. Press the "X" button on the game controller to make the settings active. Return to the PS3's "Home" menu.
    Watching the PS3
    • Insert a Blu-ray disc into the slot at the front of the PS3. Wait as the Blu-ray disc begins to play the video content on the video projector from the PS3 through the HDMI cable.

Please don't forget to rate my answer...I really appreciate any ratings you done..

Thanks for using fixya..

Nothing shows on screen when inserting game , i hear the disc is turning but nothing shows on screen

Make sure you have the cables hooked up properly, regardless of whether your using an HDMI cable or regular A/V cables.

Best thing to do in a case like this is to do a factory reset on your PS3. Be sure that the A/V cables are being used originally and are hooked up properly.

Here is how to do the factory reset on a PS3:

1 - Turn on TV and set input to port being used.
2 - Make sure PS3 is connected via correct cable.
3 - Power on PS3 via power button and HOLD IT for 5 seconds (release after the second beep). It should automatically configure your PS3 to the TV's native resolution for all settings.

Try that, if you still don't get video and you know the cables and the TV are set to the right output then its an issue with the main board not having any output.

My ps3 does not work after i used the hdmi cable on my friends new t.v. when i came back to my house i put in back on my older tv to use the regular cable and the screen is just black. what could be wrong...

This is because the PS3 is trying to outpur in Digital... you have to reset the video output to work on your analog tv again... try this.

turn the unit off... if it is on hold the power button on the unit.

while the unit is off hold the power button untill it beeps, then go into the setup and reset the proper settings for your tv.

I just got a new PS3 from Sony (cause the old one was shot). The picture almost seems like ''fish-eye'' view. The game play and words during the game are all centered in the middle when they should be...

in the system settings check to make sure you are "set-up" to use the correct output, Composite, HDMI, also, try using the analog, output that normally comes with PS3 (analog adapter for PS2 will work also), but you have to change the output to analog to try, and you will have to change the settings back to composite or HDMI for 1080i while still using the analog, if you try it, then restart the PS3 and seee if there are any changes, try with as many different outputs, as possible to eliminate that before sending back to SONY for repair or replacement.
Thanks for the nice rating if this helps or solves your issue, or points you in the right direction, Fixya is appreciated. Thanks for the question

Av connections not giving signal to tv

you have to manually change the output in the settings menu back to ANALOG Using an HDMI TV or monitor 1st, when you select RCA, or AV output and restart, it will work, but when you switch back, you have to change it (back to HDMI output) on the analog monitor, or use analog TV inputs, then reboot PS3 and connect HDMI.
I do not know why Sony did not make this switch automatic and self scanning on boot, but alas I have had the same issue, so I know this is your problem, not the AV cables.

Please give a fixya rating if you find this solves your problem, Thanks for the question

PS3 connection

If I remember correctly the Playstation 3 is set to display through the analog output as default.
Plug in your HDMI cable, and plug in the analog SCART cable that came with the box, put your TV on the analog channel that matches the SCART input and start the Playstation. Once you complete the initial Playstation setup you can go to system settings and change the video output from analog SCART to digital HDMI.

Good luck.

Can no longer see output on TV but PS3 is on

  • Check that the input mode of the TV is appropriate for the connector in use on the PLAYSTATION computer entertainment system. If you switched to the analog cable you need to change the TV from HDMI input to the AV input.

  • There may be a problem with the cable in use. Try using another cable that is compatible with the PLAYSTATION. If you use a different type of connection make sure to change the channel.

  • If the video output settings on the PLAYSTATION®3 do not match those of the cable or TV in use, there may be no picture. If the screen goes blank, turn off the system.

  • Then, with only the PLAYSTATION®3 and the TV connected, touch the system's power button for more than 5 seconds to turn the system back on. The video output settings will automatically be reset to the standard resolution.

Optical output, no sound!

Have you selected Optical output from the audio setup screen of the TV? That needs to be selected to transfer TV audio to the optical out of the TV.

Ps3 wont show up on tv

Hey i just posted i have the same problem as you do but then I checked the SONY PS3 website and it solved my problem. Try resetting your video output. I'll paste what it says on the PS3 website but if that doesn't solve your problem go to the website. They have a bunch of troubleshooting solutions for this problem...

If while manually changing the Video Output Settings, the screen remains blank for more than 30 seconds, you may need to perform the following steps to reset the Video Output Settings.

  1. Make sure the Component AV Cable is connected to the [AV MULTI-OUT] port on the back of the PLAYSTATION 3 system.
  2. Connect the other end of the Component AV Cable into the video and audio RCA jacks of the TV or display monitor.
  3. While the PLAYSTATION 3 system is in standby mode (red light on the front of the system), hold down the touch-sensitive On/Off button on the front of the system until the system goes into standby mode again . (So the light cycle would go from: red light to --> green light --> then back to red light) This will ensure that you have held down the On/Off button long enough to reset the Video Output Settings.
  4. Turn ON the PLAYSTATION 3 and once the system finishes powering up, the Video Output Settings will automatically be reset to the standard resolution (or detect the current display output settings of your TV/monitor).
