Question about Toshiba MW20F51 20 in. TV/VCR/DVD Combo

1 Answer

I lost my Original Toshiba remote control for my TV and I need to do a channel scan that is in the setup menu, but the TV itself doesn't have a setup button to push to access the scan function, How else can I get to the setup scan function of the menu without the Original Toshiba Remote control?

You can buy a universal remote, any best buy will carry one, I have even found cheap ones at dollar tree or dollarama. They come with a manual with the codes for the make of your TV just follow the coding instructions until you find the one that will operate your TV.
Good luck

Toshiba LCD TV/DVD 15LV505 lost channels. Rescan = fewer channels. Now in Setup, when I press the remote down-it skips the Channel option. What must I fix/change in Settings to get the Channel option?

Main system control memory IC fault. This is a very small IC; have 8 solder terminals, and can be located very near to the main system control-chroma IC. Check and replace it. Be sure to replace it with the same number printed on it; in all respect. Otherwise, it won't go. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ Before replacing it, try a reset to this set, and then check.

I have a Sharp TV model LC-32SB24U. I cannot access the menu screen because I lost the remote control. Is there another way I can change channels without a remote?

The Sharp LC-32SB24U has menu, input, volume up/down and channel up/down buttons on the top of the TV. When you access the Menu using the buttons on the TV, the Input button is the same as the Enter key. The volume up/down buttons map to the left and right arrows. The channel up/down buttons remain up and down. The Menu button is the closest to the power button (on the right). The volume buttons are the ones on the left.

Make sure that the input is set to TV to change channels. Then you need to program the available channels, access the Menu and navigate to Setup (left/right arrows). Press Input to enter this sub-menu. Then use the Up/Down arrows to select CH Setup. Press Input again to enter. Now you can set the channel source and let the TV scan for channels that have a strong enough OTA signal or are unencrypted cable channels. These are the top two options in the Channel Setup menu. The details are available in the manual which is available here: http://static.highspeedbackbone.net/pdf/Sharp_LC37SB24U_LC32SB24U_Manual.pdf . For OTA channels, you may need to check the signal strength under the Antenna Setup - Digital option in this Setup menu. OTA Digital signals will not be tuned in if the signal strength is low. It's an all-or-none tuning; amplifiers and external antennas may help. See tvfool.com for details of transmitters and the recommended antenna for your area. (Warning: damaged amplifiers can become filters and block the signal on some channels. Replace the amplifier if it is damaged.)

If you look to replace your original remote with a universal remote, you'll need one that was programmed more than 6 months after the TV was released. That may be 12/2005 based on the manual copyright date. Look for a remote that has a Menu and Input or Source button and check all of the codes to find one that matches all of the features on your original remote. Amazon has an OEM remote for the LC-32SB24U; remotes.com also has a replacement remote available that has been programmed for the TV. (On remotes.com, search for the LC32SB24U.)

I hope this helps.

How to retrieve lost channels on digital tv

To restore missing channels, you need to retune your digital receiver (box or TV).

The retuning process runs a scan and finds all the available channels. Your box may have an Add New Channels option that you can use, but this may not pick up other changes such as channels being moved to a different multiplex or removed altogether.
How to retune
  1. Switch on your digital box and/or TV.
  2. Press Menu on the remote control.
  3. Select the Setup or Installation option.
  4. Select the 'First time installation' option (sometimes called 'Factory reset', 'Full retune' or 'Default settings').
  5. Press OK if your equipment asks if you want to delete all your channels. Don't worry, this is normal.
  6. If you are prompted for a code, try 0000 or 1234.
  7. Channels will be automatically installed. This may take a few minutes and your equipment may shut down and restart.
  8. After retuning, you will have to redo your Favourites list and other settings. If you retune a digital TV recorder, you also should reset future recordings.

I bought a Toshiba TV with remote CT90326 from a friend who had a different service (satellite) and I have cable and the remote works to turn on the TV , punch in specific channels, and to change volume,...

Any television remote will give full access to the television functions. The remote must be specific to that television. Google
make model replacement remote
There are original ones on ebay, plus companies that sell remotes that are an exact copy. The CT90326 may be for another Toshiba model, or of course it may be faulty.

Then we have the remote on the cable or satellite unit. That gives full command of the unit functions, but BASIC control of the television, normally On, Off, Channel Up and down to allow access to DVD or similar and Volume Up and Down. Everything else is done from the TV Remote.

To get the cable remote to make that happen, you Google
Toshiba Remote Codes
and run through them all until a selected code allows you to switch the television on and off.

How can I program my tv set to default to channel 3 so that it can work with my cablevision remote control?

Under the TV's native menu setup, only set Channel 3 as an active channel. There should be an option for you to add/remove channels. You'll likely need the TV's original remote; consult your manual.

I do not know how to do a channel scan, can you help me please? I seriously thought that I could find anything online but I have not been able to find how to channel scan this tv.

What brand/model TV do you have? If the TV has several input options, make sure that the TV is set to the TV mode. (Use the Input or Source button on the remote, some TVs have this on the TV as well but not always)

Some can only do a channel scan with the original remote. My old Emerson CRT (~20 years old) launched a channel scan when I pressed the Add and Delete Channel buttons together on the remote. Fortunately even when most of the buttons failed on that remote, the channel scan still launched.

Other TVs from that time frame have an channel scan button in the control panel. Often these are hidden behind a panel to avoid accidental resets.

More modern TVs usually have the scan as part of the menu. Depending on the TV, press Menu on the remote (or if available on the TV (sometimes can be done by pressing Ch+/Ch- together)). Then look for a Setup option or a TV icon. If you have a Setup menu, you will then need to go to the TV submenu. Then find the option for setting the input signal (TV/cable) and then you should be able to launch a channel scan. (Usually the Ch+/Ch- (up/down) and Vol+/Vol- (left/right) buttons will navigate through the menus.)

Unfortunately, without the make and model, I can't give you any more help. Please write back with your brand of TV and I'll check if I have the manual in my stack.

(low end universal remotes do not always include the menu or source button. If your TV doesn't have them, you may need a different remote. The ones that can be programmed via a USB connection are the easiest to set up.)

I lost my remote and only need it to set the TV to channel 3 for cable. Is there any way to do this manually?

If you are able to access menu and channel setup, you can go into autoprogram and it will scan all available channels and store them.
Otherwise you can get a cheap universal or even original replacement remote

You need the original remote controller to be able to switch input modes.Universal ones usually don't work. If you don't have the original remote and can't find it ever or if it is too expensive you can buy an rf modulator ( very cheap) and connect your dvd player, game console etc) to the modulator then connect the modulator to your antenna with a coax cable. This worked for me. It placed the connection to channel 4 and other cable channels are still working,

You can buy the RF Modulator from: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180299245670
